Bengaluru auto union calls fare hike ‘unscientific', wants it withdrawn
BENGALURU: The Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union (ARDU) has opposed the unilateral decision by Bengaluru Urban DC G Jagadeesha to revise autorickshaw meter fares, without holding consultations with stakeholders. The fare revision order, issued on Monday, has been criticised by the union as 'unscientific' and lacking procedural transparency. The ARDU said it has been demanding fare revision since 2023. Previous DCs had held meetings with autorickshaw organisations, but the current decision was taken without any such dialogue, they alleged. Citing Karnataka Motor Vehicle Rules 53, it stressed that 'DCs are not presidents of the regional transport authority, and hence, cannot make unilateral decisions on fare structures'. It also noted that DCs lack the authority to issue or cancel auto permits within Bengaluru.

Bengaluru district reclaims encroached govt land worth Rs 50 crore in major drive
Bengaluru: Ina major crackdown on land encroachments, the Bengaluru Urban District Administration has reclaimed over 8 acres of government land worth approximately Rs 50.05 crore from illegal occupation across various taluks on Friday. The operation, led by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha, was carried out simultaneously across multiple locations under the supervision of respective tahsildars. Encroachments on gomala (grazing lands), burial grounds, pathways, and community spaces were cleared in a coordinated drive. Among the key recoveries: In KR Puram hobli of Bengaluru East taluk, 0.04 gunta of gundu topu land in Kodigehalli village, valued at ₹2.5 crore, was reclaimed; in Varthur hobli's Valepura village, 0.20 gunta of gomala land worth ₹5 crore was freed from encroachment; Anekal taluk saw the clearance of 0.01 gunta of gomala land in Ramanayakanahalli, Sarjapur hobli, valued at ₹35,000; in Bengaluru South, 0.01 gunta of encroached burial ground land in Parappana Agrahara village was cleared, along with 0.18 gunta of gundu topu in Vajrahalli village, worth around ₹25 crore and in Tavarekere hobli, encroachments were cleared from a pathway between Jogerahalli and Naganahalli villages, totaling 0.15 gunta, valued at ₹45,000. Further north, in Dasanapura hobli of Bengaluru North taluk, authorities recovered 2 acres and 0.22 gunta of gomala land in Bommashettihalli village worth ₹5.1 crore, and smaller tracts in Venkattapura and Hosahalligollarapalya villages. In Yelahanka taluk, 3 acres and 0.22 gunta of land in Kakolu village, Hesaraghatta hobli, valued at ₹10.5 crore, was reclaimed. According to officials,these actions are part of an ongoing effort to reclaim public land and protect government property from encroachment. Further drives are expected in the coming weeks.

"Will issue notice to KSCA, RCB and Police Commissioner": Bengaluru stampede investigating officer Jagadeesha
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 5 (ANI): G Jagadeesha, the Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner and the investigating officer of the Bengaluru stampede incident, on Thursday said that he will issue a notice to the Karnataka Cricket Board, Royal Challengers Bengaluru management, and others. Jagadeesha inspected the incident site near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, along with his officials, today. Speaking to the media, he said, 'I will issue notice to KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association), RCB, Event Manager, Police Commissioner...I will issue a notice to RCB management.' Meanwhile, following the horrific incident during their IPL winning celebrations, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has come forward with a compassionate gesture to honour those affected. Deeply moved by the turn of events, RCB released an official statement expressing profound grief and pledged immediate financial assistance to the families of the deceased. 'The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday caused a lot of anguish and pain for the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident,' the statement read. Acknowledging the injuries sustained by other fans during the incident, the franchise has also set up a dedicated relief initiative named 'RCB Cares', aimed at extending medical and financial aid to those hurt. 'Our fans have always been the heartbeat of RCB. We remain united in grief,' the franchise said. The incident occurred on Wednesday during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations near the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, when thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite players. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated at a press conference that 11 people died in the incident while 33 others were injured. Earlier today, the Karnataka High Court notified the state government about the stampede and again listed the matter for hearing on June 10. The High Court took suo motu cognisance of the incident and asked for a further status report. 'We have expressed ourselves to the Advocate General, and he has filed a status report, which is taken on record. Registry is directed to register this suo-motu cognisance as a suo-moto WP. Relist on 10th June, Tuesday,' the Court said. (ANI)

Case Filed Against RCB, Karnataka Cricket Body Over Bengaluru Stampede Deaths
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have filed a case on their own (suo moto) against RCB, the state cricket body, and DNA Entertainment over the stampede on Wednesday that killed 11 and left dozens injured. DNA Entertainment managed the RCB's IPL victory celebrations, while the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) organised the event, according to the state government. The police have handed over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Apart from the first information report (FIR), the district magistrate G Jagadeesha, who was appointed by the Karnataka government to investigate the incident, today said notices will also be sent to the KSCA, the Bengaluru Metro, and the RCB franchise. Mr Jagadeesha visited Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru today and inspected the gates where crowding had happened before the situation worsened into a stampede. "I started working on it [investigation] from today itself," Mr Jagadeesha told reporters. The report has to be submitted to the state government within 15 days. The district magistrate said he will analyse CCTV footage and other visuals from the area at the time the incident happened, for which he will ask families of those who were killed and injured for their statements. The general public can also give their statements between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm on June 13, the district magistrate said. A list of policemen who were deployed during the RCB's IPL victory celebration will be made and they will be asked to give their statements, he added.

RCB show solidarity after stampede tragedy outside Chinnaswamy; announce financial aid for families of deceased
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on Thursday, expressed solidarity following the tragic stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team's IPL victory celebrations, offering financial aid to the families of the 11 deceased. In a fresh statement released a day after the incident, RCB said players, staff, and management were left deeply anguished. Alongside the financial aid, they have created an 'RCB Cares' fund to support the 33 others injured in the stampede. 'The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident,' the official statement read. 'Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief.' The incident was triggered by a heavy rush of people to join a hastily-arranged celebration for the franchise. The police and local administration were left overwhelmed by the lakhs who took to the streets to join the festivities at a stadium which can accommodate only 35,000 people. At the order of the Karnataka's chief minister Siddaramaiah, inquiry into the incident has already begun with Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha heading the magisterial probe. Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Police Commissioner B Dayananda will be asked to join the inquiry. "Today I visited the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) stadium. I have seen all the events here. I will issue notice to some people for inquiry. I will conduct an inquiry and finish within 15 days. I will issue notice to KSCA, RCB management, event manager and Police Commissioner. I will ask people to give their evidence," he told reporters.
