Decision for GRS to cooperate with PH made collectively - Hajiji
Hajiji KOTA KINABALU (July 30): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) decision to continue its cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17) was not made unilaterally, said its chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Hajiji stressed that the matter had been discussed collectively among leaders within the coalition. 'We have already had discussions within GRS together with the party president. So, don't pay too much attention to what people are saying. There's just too much politicking in Sabah,' the Chief Minister said when met after an event here on Wednesday. His response followed speculation and concerns raised after he announced the continuation of GRS-PH cooperation during Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah's (Gagasan Rakyat) annual general assembly last weekend. It was earlier reported that senior GRS leaders were caught off guard by the announcement, claiming no Supreme Council meeting had been convened to formalise such an electoral pact. These leaders, however, have yet to issue an official statement and declined to comment publicly, stating they were not informed of any consensus reached at party level. In the same engagement, Hajiji was asked whether a GRS Supreme Council meeting would be called to address the matter. He replied that a meeting would be held in due course, but did not disclose a date. 'I will call the meeting later. I cannot inform the date now,' he said. Parti Bersatu Sabah secretary-general Datuk Julita Majungki said in a statement on Wednesday that the party would support Hajiji's decision to work with PH. Commenting on his working visit to Indonesia with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the 13th Annual Consultation in Jakarta on Tuesday, Hajiji said he had clearly conveyed the Sabah government's position regarding the D5 and D6 blocks off the Sulawesi Sea. 'The meeting was positive and is now at the stage of refining matters that are beneficial for Sabah,' he said. Malaysia and Indonesia reached several important agreements in the 13th Annual Consultation, including border issues, expanding economic cooperation and efforts to accelerate the implementation of new energy projects. Anwar said among the main achievements of the talks were the signing of four memorandums of understanding covering border issues including Pulau Sebatik, health, information and communication and internet governance.

GRS-Pakatan cooperation discussed with leaders, pending formal supreme council decision, says Hajiji
KOTA KINABALU, July 30 — Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has defended his recent announcement for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH), clarifying that the decision was made following discussions with component party leaders. However, he said a GRS Supreme Council meeting is still pending, but claimed that GRS component party presidents had already been consulted on the direction of the coalition's cooperation with PH at the federal and state levels. 'We have already discussed in GRS, all the party presidents,' he said when asked to comment on speculation that he made the pact announcement without broader coalition consensus. 'Don't listen too much to political talk in Sabah,' he said when speaking to reporters today. Hajiji is facing some pushback from within the eight-component coalition, many of whom had made it clear their preference to contest the state election on its own, without national party interference. He has been consistent in his desire for the current GRS-PH government partnership to continue into the election, but many within the coalition would rather the state be fully-run by a local-based party. Responding to strong calls from the grassroots at the Parti Bersatu Sabah and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku convention, Hajiji said that the matter would be discussed by the GRS Supreme Council. Asked when the council would convene to formalise the matter, Hajiji replied, 'I will call them later,' without giving a specific date.

She explained that the decision emerged from meetings between GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the presidents of the component parties, including PBS acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam. "This is on the basis that GRS would be the dominant partner as discussed and decided in the meetings. PBS also concurs with GRS chairman Hajiji's statement that GRS would be working with PH in the upcoming state election," she said in a statement here today. Last Sunday (July 27), Hajiji confirmed that an electoral pact will be formed between GRS and PH for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election. GRS consists PBS, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, Parti Maju Sabah, Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Sabah Bersatu, Parti Liberal Demokratik, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Cinta Sabah. The current five-year term of the 16th Sabah state assembly will expire automatically on Nov 11, paving the way for the 17th Sabah State Election. Meanwhile, Julita clarified that PBS has not endorsed any individuals as candidates for the upcoming state election at this juncture, stressing that any statement claiming PBS has named or supports particular individuals does not represent the party's official stance. "The process of identifying and finalising potential candidates is still ongoing and will be decided collectively by the PBS leadership, with official announcements to be made through proper channels," she said. - BERNAMA More Like This

GRS leaders agree to work with PH
KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the coalition's decision to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH) was made collectively by party leaders, denying claims it was done unilaterally. Hajiji, who is also the chief minister, said the matter was discussed within GRS and among the presidents of its component parties. "We discussed it within GRS and among the presidents of the component parties," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) between Kota Kinabalu City Hall and two companies at a hotel here. "Therefore, don't pay too much attention to what you hear, the politicking in Sabah is excessive," Hajiji added. On Sunday, the 69-year-old veteran politician said GRS would collaborate with PH in the upcoming state election, despite calls from within its components for the coalition to contest solo. Present at the event were Assistant Minister to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir and city mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah. Meanwhile, Parti Bersatu Sabah secretary-general Datuk Julita Majungki, however, said in a statement today that the party would support Hajiji's decision to work with PH. When asked about the date of the meeting, Hajiji replied: "I will call for the meeting later, but I cannot disclose it now." Commenting on his recent working visit to Indonesia with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 13th Annual Consultation, Hajiji said he had clearly conveyed the Sabah government's position regarding the D5 and D6 blocks off the Sulawesi Sea. "The meeting was positive and is now at the stage of refining matters that are beneficial for Sabah," he said.

Sabah polls: Decision to collaborate with Pakatan was not made unilaterally, says Hajiji
KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders were consulted in the decision to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming Sabah elections, according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor ( pic ). "We have discussed with all the presidents of the parties," he said, dismissing assumptions that the decision was unilateral, as some leaders were surprised by his announcement of the pact being finalised. He was asked whether the decision to work with Pakatan was his own and one-sided, to which he stressed that he had met with the presidents of the parties in the eight-party GRS coalition prior to the announcement during the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) on Sunday. Earlier, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, whose party is keen for GRS to go solo, said that GRS had not met to endorse any decision for the pact with Pakatan. Hajiji noted that there is a lot of politicking going on in Sabah at the moment, and it was best not to listen to everything being said or circulated outside. As to whether and when the supreme council will be meeting, he confirmed it would happen but declined to give a date. 'I will call and inform you later. I cannot tell you now because we don't have a date yet,' he added. On other issues, Hajiji, who recently returned from Jakarta with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, mentioned that the meeting between Malaysia and Jakarta touched on issues relating to Sabah, among other things. 'We have stated the state government's stand on issues concerning us and the outcome was very positive,' he said without further elaboration. All he could say is that issues relating to Sabah were being fine-tuned and good things were in place for the state. As to the long-standing maritime boundary claim involving Ambalat with the Indonesian government, Hajiji said these were discussed based on international laws, indicating it was a separate matter.
