Revanth expands Cabinet
Hyderabad: The much-awaited State Cabinet expansion took place on Sunday, with three Ministers taking oath and being inducted into the Cabinet. G Vivek Venkataswamy (Chennur), Adluri Laxman Kumar (Dharmapuri), and Vakiti Srihari (Makthal) were sworn in as ministers by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and senior officials attended the ceremony. Vivek Venkataswamy took oath in English, while the remaining two were sworn in Telugu.
This is the first expansion of the Cabinet, which was formed on December 7, 2023, with the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and 11 ministers. The long-delayed expansion took place after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) cleared the names of the three ministers.
Although there are still three more vacant berths in the Cabinet, the party leadership has decided not to fill them for now. The state can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister. With this expansion, the Telangana cabinet now comprises 15 members.
The current cabinet composition reflects a somewhat lopsided mix of social groups, including four members from the Reddy community, four SCs, three BCs, and one each from Velama, Brahmin, Kamma and SC communities.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that another cabinet expansion may be undertaken soon, with several sulking aspirants and new ones vying for a chance to join the ranks of ministers.
