Netflix's High Threshold: Canceled Series ‘The Residence', ‘Pulse' & ‘The Recruit' All In Top 35 For 2025, Data Reveals
On Netflix, it was a big first half of 2025 for limited series and — outside of phenom Squid Game — OK six months for ongoing scripted series. Only two English-language ongoing scripted series, The Night Agent (S2) and Ginny & Georgia (S3) made it into Top 10 at #9 and #10, with four limited series ahead of them, Adolescence (#1), Zero Day (#4), Missing You (#5) and Sirens (#8), with Sirens and Ginny & Georgia poised to amass millions of extra views in the second half of 2025 having dropped in late May and early June, respectively. More from Deadline As 'KPop Demon Hunters' Sings On Netflix, Ted Sarandos Talks Up Original Animated Features For Netflix, TF1 Deal Is An "Opportunity To Learn" And Use New Livestreaming & Ad Tech, Co-CEO Greg Peters Says Gabriel Iglesias Lands Top Stand-Up Special On Netflix For First Half Of 2025; Overall Performance Of Specials Down From Recent Reports Released today, Netflix's semi-annual viewership report includes data for the three scripted series canceled by so far this year, The Residence and Pulse after one season and The Recruit after two. None of them was an outright ratings flop. Comedic White House murder mystery The Residence, starring Uzo Aduba, fared the best, ranking #23 with 33.3 million views from its March 20 release through June 30. New medical drama Pulse, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, was #30 with 26.2M since its April 3 release. And Season 2 of spy drama The Recruit, headlined by Noah Centineo, was #34 with 24.1M since its Jan. 30 premiere while its first season added respectable 19.1M views over the first six months to take #47. All three have been canceled while series that launched new seasons during the same Jan-June time period to similar or lower viewership have been renewed, including XO, Kitty S2 (35.3M since 1/16), Ransom Canyon S1 (29M since 4/17), Forever S1 (19.1 since 5/8) and Sweet Magnolias S4 (16.9M since 2/6). The discrepancy underscores the multiple factors going into Netflix's renewal decisions, the leading being cost vs. performance. That was likely in play for both The Residence and The Recruit. As Deadline reported earlier this month, The Residence's first season came at a very high price point due to its all-star cast, elaborate production design and extensive VFX work. There were conversations about ways to reduce the budget for a second installment, likely in a different setting, which ultimately didn't materialize. The Recruit's second season featured a slew of action sequences, with a portion of the story filmed in Korea. The Residence and Pulse, which was produced on a more modest, broadcast-size budget, also may have been overshadowed by Adolescence and The Pitt, respectively. The Residence was released at the height of Netflix limited series' popularity while Pulse went head to head with HBO Max's breakout hit medical drama. There are also other factors taken into consideration, including completion rates, which Netflix values highly but does not disclose publicly, as well as critical acclaim, pop culture impact and what kind of viewers a show attracts as Netflix's model is based on serving the widest audience possible. Another Netflix scripted series whose continuation is in doubt, dark comedy No Good Deed, ranked #204 with 7.9M from Jan-June 2025 in addition to the 15M it drew for the first 20 days of release in December. There are no current plans for a second installment of the murder mystery but the door has been left open. This is not the first time Netflix has axed a Top 30 scripted series. In 2023, it canceled fantasy drama Shadow and Bone whose second season had ranked #26 in hours viewed between Jan-June that year. Like The Residence, it was expensive to produce. There was some consolation for The Residence this week — the show landed four Emmy nominations, including one for Aduba in the Lead Actress In a Comedy Series category. Gabriel Iglesias Lands Top Stand-Up Special On Netflix For First Half Of 2025; Overall Performance Of Specials Down From Recent Reports
Gabriel 'Fluffy' Iglesias had the top-performing comedy special on Netflix in the first half of 2025, per new data released by the streamer. The news comes in sifting through the latest edition of Netflix's biannual 'What We Watched' report, unveiled on Thursday, which looked at streaming engagement on the platform from January through June. More from Deadline 'Captain Planet' Live-Action Series In Works At Netflix From Berlanti Productions & Appian Way Netflix Data Dump: 'Adolescence' Was Streamer's Most-Watched Series In First Half Of 2025 Even As Older Originals Retain Relevance; 'Back In Action' Scored No. 1 Title Overall Netflix Posts Solid Q2 Results, Raises Full-Year Revenue Forecast Iglesias' Gabriel Iglesias: Legend of Fluffy ranked 210th on the overall list of highest-viewed TV program during that window, with 7.8 million views since its January 6th debut. Second on the list is 2024's top-grossing touring comedian Nate Bargatze, who was ranked 275th with 6.7 million views for Your Friend, Nate Bargatze. His ranking was naturally affected by the fact that the special dropped on December 24, 2024, so the first days of viewership were folded into the report for the back half of 2024. Third on the list of comics, and 281st overall, is Andrew Schulz with his pregancy-themed LIFE, which garnered 6.6 million views. Bert Kreischer's Lucky followed in fourth with 4.5 million views, with Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs, Gillis' old special from 2023, tailing that one in fifth place at 3.6 million views. (Technically, the Kill Tony special Kill or Be Killed from April is in fifth with 4 million, though as a show involving performances by numerous comedians, it's not an exact comparison to the average stand-up special. Similar outliers near the top of the list included Justin Willman: Magic Lover, which is as much magic as it is comedy at 2.6 million views, and Conan O'Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor with 2.4.) Other top performers this time around included Katt Williams, whose Woke Foke from 2024 recorded another 2.1 million views, and Chelsea Handler with The Feeling, which recorded the same. The bad news for comics in looking at this list, in comparison to those most recently put out, is that the overall performance of specials on Netflix seems to be coming down. Though, to be fair, the top-ranking comics of the last two reports were Jamie Foxx and Dave Chappelle, and Foxx's fans had an extra reason to tune in, given that they'd be hearing him speak about a health scare for the first time. Foxx won the back half of 2024 with What Had Happened Was…, which garnered 11.6 million views, whereas Chappelle's The Dreamer dominated the first half at 17.4 million. Delaware State Fair 2025 entertainment preview: Racing Corgis, Fluffy comedian & more
Watch out, little racing pigs – because cute corgis are coming to the Delaware State Fair, ready to debut their own furry races and prove they're fast as fluff. After all, a bit of weirdness is tradition at the state fair, which returns to Harrington from July 17 to 26. This year the fair will have a bunch of family-friendly entertainment, attractions and festivities to get your paws on, including a new food competition. But the star of the show is the mainstage concert lineup that includes a stand-up performance by comedian Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias. This year will mark his third time at the fair. Carly Callahan, spokesperson of the Delaware State Fair, said they love bringing Fluffy back because he's "able to appeal to the masses." The comedian's new Netflix comedy special, "Legend of Fluffy," also helped. Maximize summer fun: Welcome to our 2025 Delaware Summer Guide That Netflix special, which dropped in January, "definitely made him even more popular than he was before," Callahan told Delaware Online/The News Journal on June 24. "So, even though we've had him, this would be his third time, he hasn't gone by the wayside. He's definitely still relevant, regardless of the fact that he's been here." Here's a preview of this year's entertainment for the 106th Delaware State Fair. A highlight of the fair is jumping on your favorite amusement rides. Each carnival ride costs between three and six tickets. There are multiple ways to pay for rides and attractions. You can use the Fair Pass, a digital ticketing app that allows you to pay for rides. You can buy the card at the on-site kiosks or skip the kiosks line and buy units on the FunTagg mobile app (available at the Apple and Google stores; although the link to the Google Play version was down recently). Carnival fans also can purchase an Unlimited Wristband, which is good for one day. A Flash Friday special for the unlimited band is available for $20 until midnight on June 27 and gate admission is $6; service fees apply. The Advanced Wristband is $27 (now through July 16 at 11:59 p.m.). The Regular Wristband is $42 after July 17. Unless otherwise stated, Gate admission into the fair is an extra fee. Seeing red! Inside the wacky Running of the Bull 2025 in Dewey Beach No stranger to offering unique foods like pizza on a stick, doughnut cheeseburgers or fried Oreos, this year's Delaware State Fair will dish up a new food competition. This one-day event is sort of like a pub crawl and takes fairgoers from vendor to vendor where they'll sample food from various participating stands. Guests will fill out a sheet for the vendor they love the most. "I think it will be an exciting way for people to maybe test new food vendors that they've never tried before," Callahan told The News Journal. "And it also is making our food vendors, who've been coming for a long time, maybe step outside of their comfort zone and not always bring the usual, but bring more people to their spot to try something that they've never [served at the fair] before." Callahan said soon she plans to reveal the date and more information about the food competition once things get finalized. Racing Corgis: Another new attraction are these galloping pups. Similar to the beloved Hollywood Racing Pigs, you'll watch corgis run their hearts out in adorable fashion at the Sponsor Court. Callahan said details about showtimes for the Racing Corgis will be announced on the State Fair's website soon. Hollywood Racing Pigs: These fine baby swine will huff it across the finish line as they battle it out in the return of this popular contest (at 2, 4 and 7:30 p.m.), located at Arena Avenue. Disc-Connected K9's: It's been a while since they've been to the fair, now they're back this summer to show off impressive canine flips, tricks and Frisbee catches with world-class trainers (at 1, 4 and 7 p.m.), located at the Machinery Lot. Circus Hollywood: The Coronas Family will have an encore with their circus attraction, featuring acrobats, wild stunts, clowns and more in an open-air environment (from 5 and 8:30 p.m. July 17 to 26; extra shows are at noon: July 18, 19, 20, 22, 25-26.) Wild About Animals Show: Animal lovers should check out this show by the Coronas Family, which offers camels and new animals in an event that's funny and educational (at 3 and 6:30 p.m.). While this is a concert lineup, the state fair has a tradition of throwing non-concerts into the mix. Harness Racing, an event that's been held several times on the fairgrounds, will get things started. This event is presented by Harrington Casino. This free event starts at 5 p.m. You can expect some crash-out moments at the Demolition Derby, a popular event in Harrington that promises to get the audience revved up for a different type of heavy metal. The event is presented by Taylor and Messick. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $27 to $29. Country star Riley Green is popular for tunes like "There Was This Girl," "If It Wasn't for Trucks" and "I Wish Grandpas Never Died." He'll be joined by the opener Preston Cooper. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $83 to $108. Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias is arguably the cuddliest comedian in the world. This jolly giant is coming back to Harrington this summer with more shenanigans. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $48 to $84. Folks will have a blast with the Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors, three bands that will take you back in time to the '90s. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $58 to $93. CeCe Winans is recognized as the best-selling and most award-winning female gospel artist of all time. She has won 17 Grammy Awards. For context, that's three more than superstar Taylor Swift. Where to dance: Summer's hottest party spots in Delaware The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $38 to $73. Adding more country vibes to this concert lineup is Gavin Adcock, the man behind notable songs like "Run Your Mouth, "Deep End" and "A Cigarette." His opener is Austin Snell. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $43 to $78. Country star Russell Dickerson has a deep song bag of favorites such as "Yours," "Blue Tacoma" and "Love You Like I Used To." His opener is Niko Moon. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $38.50 to $73.50. After Atlanta rapper Ludacris headlined the State Fair last year, organizers are following that up with another ATL legend who some consider the rap king of the south: T.I. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $58 to $93. The duo Big & Rich will paint the town red, white and blue when they close out the final night of the State Fair. The duo has served up country jams like "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" and "Fake ID." The opener is Bryan Martin. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $59 to $94. History of the Orange Crush: And 7 fun Delaware beach bars to get one in 2025 The cost of gate admission is: $10 for adults (ages 13 or older) or $10.50 (online) $5 for youth (ages 6-12) or $5.50 (online) Free for kids (ages 5 or younger). Is the New ‘Dora the Explorer' Movie, ‘Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado' Streaming on Netflix or Disney+?
Vánomos amigos, because there's another live-action Dora the Explorer, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, coming to Nickelodeon and Paramount+ this holiday weekend. This is the second live-action movie for Dora the Explorer, an animated kids' show that aired on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2019. The series, which aimed to help English-speaking children learn Spanish, centered on Dora Márquez and her trusty companion Boots the monkey, as they traveled the world with Backpack and tried to prevent Swiper the fox from, well, swiping. The first live-action movie, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, released in theaters in 2019, and starred Isabela Moner in the eponymous role. This new movie is being billed as a 'standalone' sequel to the 2019 film, however, it features an all new cast. Samantha Lorraine takes over in the role of Dora, replacing Moner. Also starring Jacob Rodriguez, Daniella Pineda, and Gabriel Iglesias, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is skipping theaters and headed to straight to streaming. Here's where to watch the new Dora the Explorer movie, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, online. Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is not streaming on Netflix, and will not be streaming on Netflix any time soon. This is because the movie is not a Netflix original, it is a Nickelodeon and Paramount movie. The movie will air on Nickelodeon and be available to stream on Paramount+ at the same time. Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is not streaming on Disney+, because it is not a Disney property. Not all kids' movies and TV shows are owned by Disney! Dora the Explorer was a Nickelodeon show, which is owned by Paramount Global. For that reason, the movie will air on Nickelodeon and be available to stream on Paramount+ at the same time. Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado will be streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. on Wednesday, July 2. It will be streaming on Paramount+ internationally 'shortly after.' Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial. TRY PARAMOUNT+ FREE Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado will also air on Nickelodeon on Wednesday, July 2 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
