Minister of Works and GPS secretary-general, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the gathering was a meaningful way to celebrate Sarawak Day, even while fulfilling their parliamentary duties. 'Sometimes, the most meaningful moments are created at the dining table. 'More than just food, today's gathering reflects our bond as one big 'anak Sarawak' family,' Nanta shared in a Facebook post. Among the local favourites served were Sarawak laksa, mee kolok, nasi goreng dabai, and kuih penyaram. Present at the gathering were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, and Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib. alexander nanta linggi gps Mps parliament sarawak day

Abg Jo: S'wak govt channels RM565 mln to Unifor for religious infrastructure, inclusivity
Uggah (eight left) receives a souvenir from Georgina (seventh left) as Lee (ninth left), Penguang (sixth left) and other guests look on. MIRI (July 21): The Sarawak government has allocated a total of RM565 million to the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that all Sarawakians can worship in environments that are safe, dignified and comfortable, regardless of their faith. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said of the total sum, RM475 million has already been channelled through Unifor to support the development and enhancement of houses of worship across Sarawak. 'These efforts are anchored in the principle of social inclusivity,' he said in his speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the Interfaith Thanksgiving event held in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebration at a hotel here last night. He said the state government's support covers places of worship for various faiths, including Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Sikhism, the Baha'i faith and traditional belief systems. Meanwhile, the remaining RM90 million has been allocated to missionary schools throughout Sarawak since 2021. Abang Johari also noted that Unifor is the only agency of its kind in Malaysia, describing it as a clear reflection of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led Sarawak government's deep respect for the state's diverse religious landscape. 'With sustained support, Unifor has cultivated a strong and stable ecosystem of interfaith harmony, making Sarawak a model of unity across Malaysia,' he said. He added that through Unifor, the state government will continue to strengthen the infrastructure of religious institutions, ensuring that every citizen enjoys freedom of faith and peace of worship. At the same time, he stressed the need for Sarawak to remain a beacon of peace and unity amid growing global challenges. He called on religious leaders to play a vital role in fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting mutual understanding among communities. 'They are crucial partners in building a holistic and thriving society, helping shape the moral compass of our future generation,' he said. On the event, Abang Johari said it offered a meaningful opportunity to deepen interfaith connections and appreciate the spiritual diversity that defines Sarawak. 'When we come together to celebrate our traditions, we embrace the spirit of inclusivity, a principle embedded in our Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. 'Let this celebration serve as a reaffirmation of our shared values, mutual respect, and our continued journey towards a more united and holistic Sarawak,' he added. Among those present were Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who is also the minister in-charge of the Sarawak Day celebration 2025, Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Unifor director Georgina Apphia Ngau. Jepak Bridge a monument of Sarawak's visionary leadership, says Tanjong Batu rep
Pang greets a runner during the Jepak Bridge Run 2025. BINTULU (July 21): The newly-completed Jepak Bridge is a powerful symbol of Sarawak's forward-thinking leadership, said Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang. He said the bridge was more than a physical link, and represented a bold step forward in transforming the rural landscape and catalysing economic growth in Bintulu and beyond. 'The bridge is not just an infrastructure — it is the manifestation of the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government's commitment to rural transformation and inclusive development. 'It proves that when we say no one is left behind, we mean it,' he told The Borneo Post yesterday when asked about the bridge's significance ahead of its official opening on Wednesday by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Earlier, Pang joined Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas for the Jepak Bridge Run 2025. He said the Jepak Bridge ends decades of relying on ferry services — a daily challenge for thousands of residents in Jepak. 'With the bridge, transportation between Jepak and Tanjung Batu is faster, safer and more reliable. This is a change that brings direct improvements to the locals' quality of life. 'Residents now enjoy better access to education, jobs and healthcare. This has a real impact on the ground, not just figures on paper,' he said. He said the bridge, which strategically links Jepak, Samalaju and Bintulu Port, enhances logistics efficiency and accelerates industrial expansion in the northern region. Uggah receives his finishing medal from JKR Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Morris as Pang (left) looks on. 'The bridge is also poised to redefine Bintulu's urban boundary, paving the way for population growth, new job opportunities, and expanded economic zones on both sides,' he said. As Sarawak's first double tower, double cable-stayed bridge with a dual four-lane carriageway, he said the project is a landmark achievement. He said it showcases the Sarawak government's technical capacity and unwavering commitment to infrastructure development. 'Let's be honest, this project was not a dream. It was delivered through strong political will, long-term planning, and Sarawak-centric governance.' He added Bintulu's strategic geographic position, deep-water port, natural gas reserves, and vast land availability make it an ideal hub for integrated development. Pang believed that the bridge adds momentum to Sarawak's green energy agenda, a vision championed by the premier. 'With our Premier's visionary leadership, I firmly believe that Sarawak is on the path to becoming a high-income state by 2030,' he added. Jepak Bridge Jepak Bridge Run johnny pang Sarawak leaders

‘Unity fuels govt strength'
For the people: Anwar being greeted warmly by attendees of the 'kenduri rakyat' during the government administration and parliamentarians' retreat at Dataran Kampung Pachitan in Port Dickson. — Bernama PORT DICKSON: The government is strong because it adheres to the principles and spirit of unity among its coalition partners, as well as their shared commitment to developing the country, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister acknowledged that while each party within the government may hold different beliefs and stances, their unity and cooperation remain exemplary. 'Although we are a coalition of parties, the spirit to develop the country makes the cooperation and spirit extraordinary. 'I want to thank Deputy Prime Ministers (Datuk Seri Dr) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (of Barisan Nasional), (Datuk Seri) Fadillah Yusof (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and all other colleagues for their unwavering unity spirit,' he said. The Prime Minister said this at the Kenduri Rakyat programme held in conjunction with the government administration and parliamentarians' retreat at Dataran Kampung Pachitan yesterday. He said the retreat, attended by 143 MPs, is a testament to the government's commitment to ensure the well-being of the people and that their problems were heard and resolved. The government, he said, also remained steadfast in ensuring the country continues to prosper. 'This is a special occasion as we have the PM, both deputy prime ministers and several Cabinet ministers in a village where we discussed issues faced by the people and how best we can resolve them. 'From the macro economy perspective, our economic growth is good with low inflation and unemployment. 'However, I am fully aware there are people who still face hardship. Let me assure you the government is here to hear you out,' he said. The lawmakers took part in the three-day retreat where they personally interacted with the people during several activities. The programme aims to foster closer ties between the elected representatives and the people in a more relaxed environment. It also seeks to allow them to engage directly with the people and offer them a platform to voice their needs and concerns. Anwar gave his assurance that his administration would always hear out the grassroots before making any decision. When met at the event, Fadillah said this was the first time that members of the government's administration and MPs from across the country have come together for a kenduri rakyat (people's feast). Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail described the programme as a meaningful experience that allowed him to connect with residents, gain insights into their daily activities and explore the area's economic potential. The Backbenchers Club said the programme was a manifestation of principles that celebrate the values of compassion, mutual respect and unity within society. 'This is an example of the value of ihsan (compassion) and social responsibility, which are the pillars of the Malaysia Madani philosophy,' it said in a statement.
