KNEECAP announced for Electric Picnic Main Stage
Fresh from their high-energy Glastonbury set, KNEECAP has revealed that they've been added to the line-up of this year's sold-out Electric Picnic — returning to Stradbally Hall in Co Laois from August 29-31. 'A chairde Gael….we will play the Main stage at Electric Picnic in August,' the trio announced in a social media post this morning. They join a star-studded line-up that also includes the likes of Hozier, Sam Fender, Kings of Leon, Chappell Roan, Fatboy Slim, Becky Hill and more. Minute's silence held at Croke Park for Crossmaglen's Tom McKay
Mr McKay, who passed away following a short illness on Sunday, was the public relations officer (PRO) of Crossmaglen Rangers GAA club for 20 years. The County Down native became PRO at 60 in 1996 and stayed in the role until he was 81. In a past interview with this paper, he said he took the job on a 'temporary basis.' He was part of a key period for the club when Crossmaglen Rangers won 13 Armagh Senior Football Championships in a row from 1996 to 2008 - a record the club still holds. During this time, the team also won seven Ulster Club Championship titles and four All-Ireland Club Championship titles. Crossmaglen Rangers said they were 'deeply saddened' by his passing and paid tribute to his long service. The club stated: 'The Executive, players, members and supporters of Crossmaglen Rangers are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a true Ranger. 'Tom, PRO for 20 years, lotto promoter, a true supporter and dear friend- he represented the black and amber with pride and distinction, and we thank Tom for his long and dedicated service. 'He was immensely proud of his daughters, Aine and Sinead, son-in-law Joey, and grandson Aaron when they togged out for the Rangers.' Newry Shamrocks GAC, where he also served as a former secretary prior to his tenure in Crossmaglen, paid tribute to the 'true Gael.' In a statement, the club wrote: 'Tom dedicated countless years to our club, working tirelessly behind the scenes with quiet strength, humility, and deep passion for our games. 'His commitment shaped generations of players and volunteers, and his legacy will live on in every corner of Páirc Esler. 'Later, Tom continued his remarkable service with Crossmaglen Rangers, where he was equally admired and respected. Few individuals leave a mark on two great clubs — but Tom was no ordinary man.' The club added: 'To his family, we offer our heartfelt condolences. Thank you for sharing him with us. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Rest easy, Tom. You will never be forgotten.' Among other roles, Mr McKay served as chair of the board of governors at St Joseph's High School, where he helped campaign for a new school building. The new facility opened in 2023. At the time, he described the new school as the end of a 'long struggle' to upgrade the 60-year-old building, aiming to 'enhance facilities and ensure young people of South Armagh are educated in a building fit for purpose.' St Joseph's High School also thanked Mr McKay for his efforts, saying, 'We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for everything he has done for St Joseph's High School.' For those wishing to pay their respects, the funeral will take place on Wednesday at St Patrick's Church, Crossmaglen, with Requiem Mass at 11am.

Kneecap confirm BBC Glastonbury bombshell with blunt message
Irish rap trio, Kneecap, has confirmed the BBC contacted the band in the last few hours. Writing on X, Kneecap, whose members are from west Belfast and Derry, confirmed that their 4pm performance on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury will not be streamed live however, according to the group, the BBC is seeking to make a version of the concert available on the BBC iPlayer on Saturday evening. "A chairde Gael...," wrote Kneecap. "The propaganda wing of the regime has just contacted us.... They WILL put our set from Glastonbury today on the I-player later this evening for your viewing pleasure." The Irish language rappers warned fans at Glastonbury to arrive at the West Holts Stage early to avoid disappointment. "The crowd expected today is far greater than West Holts capacity so "you'll need to be very early to catch us EARLY," they added. Despite facing pressure from British politicians and others, the festival organisers have chosen not to cancel the Irish band's appearance. This comes after allegations that the band displayed a flag in support of the proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah and chanted "up Hamas, up Hezbollah" during a gig in London last November. One of the band members, Liam Og O hAnnaidh, is currently out on bail and set to reappear in court in August, following a court appearance earlier this month. He denies the charges, and the band has apologised to the families of murdered MPs, claiming that footage of the incident was "exploited and weaponised". Kneecap is set to perform at Glastonbury on Saturday at 4pm, and an enormous crowd is expected to attend. The controversy has only added to the band's popularity, particularly among the festival's left-wing, anti-establishment, and pro-Palestinian attendees. Earlier on Saturday, festival bosses issued a warning to fans planning to catch Kneecap's set at the West Holts Stage.
