CCTV released after assault in Scots nightclub

Police are investigating an assault in a Scots nightclub and have released CCTV to assist with their investigation. CCTV images of a man have been released following an assault in a Scots nightclub. The incident took place last year on Saturday, July 27, 2024, between 1am and 3am at Life Nightclub in Dunfermline. ‌ Police Scotland have now released images of a man they believe may be able to assist officers with an ongoing investigation into an assault. ‌ The black male is described as speaking with an African/English accent and being between 30 and 40 years of age, around 5ft 8in tall and of slim build. At the time, he was wearing dark grey jeans, black Vans style shoes, a red t-shirt, black jacket and a black/grey cap. Those with information can contact Dunfermline CIU via 101 and quote incident number 4198 of July 30 2024. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. ‌ Last week we reported, in a separate incident, that a savage carer who bit a lump out of a pal's face and spat on a police officer has been banned from the profession. Danielle Gaffar, from Dundee, tried to hide the fact she'd been jailed for a brutal nightclub attack when she applied to work in social care last year. The 24-year-old then went on to attack a police officer after a drunken house party, kicking them on the head and spitting on them. ‌ A social care watchdog struck the home carer off the register. A report from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) told Gaffar: 'You have been convicted of two violent criminal offences in the space of five years. This demonstrates a disregard for the law, lack of self-control and propensity to violence. ‌ 'Your actions resulted in physical, and likely emotional, harm to the victims.' Kyra Strachan was going out with Gaffer's ex when she was assaulted to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement in February 2019 by her former friend. Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Gaffar and Miss Strachan, who were both 18 and at school at the time, were formerly close friends but there had been a 'disagreement' between them and there remained some animosity. ‌ Strachan had been on the dance floor of the Aura nightclub when she was attacked from behind, pulled to the ground, and her head was banged off the floor several times. Gaffar put her arm around her victim's throat until she struggled to breathe and bit her right cheek, leaving her needing eight stitches and permanently scarred. Gaffar was jailed for 16 months after a sheriff rejected defence pleas not to jail her, labelling her actions outrageous and 'reprehensible' and saying there had been 'absolute outrage in the community' as a result. In January last year, Gaffer failed to disclose the conviction when registering to be a support workers in home care. Just six months later she was convicted at Dundee Sheriff Court for a second time. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! More info A savage Scottish carer bit a lump out of a pal's face in a brutal nightclub attack. Danielle Gaffar was struck off the register this week following a hearing with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). The 24-year-old attempted to conceal her conviction when applying to work in social care last year. Gaffar, from Dundee, was jailed for the brutal attack which took place after a drunken house party. She also kicked a police officer and spat on them in a separate incident, reports the Daily Record. In 2019 victim Kyra Strachan was going out with Gaffar's ex when she was assaulted to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement by her former friend. Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Gaffar and Miss Strachan, who were both 18 and at school at the time, were formerly close friends but there had been a "disagreement" between them and there remained some animosity. Gaffar was jailed for 16 months after a sheriff rejected defence pleas not to jail her, labelling her actions outrageous and "reprehensible" and saying there had been "absolute outrage in the community" as a result. The court heard she had received death threats and has lost a job because of the publicity of the case. A report from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) told Gaffar: "You have been convicted of two violent criminal offences in the space of five years. This demonstrates a disregard for the law, lack of self-control and propensity to violence. "Your actions resulted in physical, and likely emotional, harm to the victims." In January last year, Gaffer failed to disclose the conviction when registering to be a support workers in home care. Just six months later she was convicted at Dundee Sheriff Court for a second time. The court heard how Gaffar had been drinking alcohol at a house party when she was prevented from driving away. Police were called and she kicked an officer on the head while she was being put in the back of a police van. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages Gaffar later spat on the officer while being processed for failing to provide a breath test and being in control of an unregistered vehicle. She was sentenced to a community payback order, including 186 hours of unpaid work. Gaffar was also banned from driving for 13 months. She again failed to declare the second conviction to the SSSC. The watchdog said it had no alternative but to remove Gaffar from the social care register. It said: "The pattern of both violent and dishonest behaviour under consideration is indicative of an underlying values concern which is fundamentally incompatible with registration as a social service worker." "You have failed to engage with the SSSC investigations into your fitness to practise, therefore your position is not known. Due to your lack of insight, remorse, and assurances in respect of future behaviour the SSSC cannot be assured that there is not an ongoing risk of repetition." It added: "Your behaviour damages the reputation of the profession and needs to be marked as unacceptable."

Care worker struck off after permanently disfiguring woman and kicking police officer's head

A Scottish care worker has been struck off after she was convicted of permanently disfiguring a woman and kicking a police officer in the head. Danielle Gaffar was found guilty of attacking a woman outside the Aura nightclub in Dundee on February 3, 2019. She struck the woman's head off the ground several times, restricted the victim's breathing with an arm around her throat and bit her on the face causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement. When applying for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council on January 5, 2024, the woman failed to disclose her previous conviction. Gaffar was later convicted of failing to provide two breath samples to determine whether she had been driving under the influence of alcohol on February 24, 2024. During the same day, the carer spat at and kicked a police officer in the head. The woman failed to disclose the charges or convictions to SSSC. The report determined that the 'pattern of both violent and dishonest behaviour under consideration is indicative of an underlying values concern, which is fundamentally incompatible with registration.' It read: 'You have failed to engage with the SSSC investigations into your fitness to practise, therefore your position is not known. 'Due to your lack of insight, remorse, and assurances in respect of future behaviour, the SSSC cannot be assured that there is not an ongoing risk of repetition.' TAWAU: A local man was sentenced to 12 years in jail by the High Court here on Wednesday for having 128.76 grammes of syabu hidden in Milo packets last year. Abdul Gaffar Passaba, 53, pleaded guilty before Judge Datuk Duncan Sikodol after an alternative charge was read out to him by the court interpreter. Advertisement The court ordered the prison sentence to take effect from Gaffar's date of arrest on Jan 30, 2024. However, Gaffar was spared the cane due to his age. Gaffar committed the offence on Jan 30, 2024, at 11.30am, at the sea near Tawau Port. He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, which provides for life imprisonment or a minimum of five years' jail and not less than 10 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The facts of the case stated that Gaffar was apprehended during Ops Tapis Khas by the Tawau Marine Police who had stopped a boat for inspection. He was one of the passengers and was reportedly acting suspiciously before attempting to flee, but was quickly detained by the police team. A further search revealed two plastic packets of Milo containing the drugs, which were found in his possession. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Nisla Abd Latif prosecuted, while Abdul Gaffar was represented by counsel Vivian Thien. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Ratepayers in Durban face hefty costs due to eThekwini Municipality's legal errors

Ratepayers in Durban are left to shoulder the financial burden of a R30 million legal battle involving the eThekwini Municipality. Image: IOL / RON AI Durban's ratepayers are being forced to absorb the financial consequences of officials who continue to make unlawful decisions without fear of accountability Asad Gaffar, chairperson of the eThekwini Ratepayers Protest Movement (ERPM), remarked after the city incurred costs in a R30 million tender legal battle between the eThekwini Municipality and a service provider, Daily Double Trading, which culminated in a recent decision by the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court dismissed the municipality's leave to appeal against the Supreme Court of Appeal judgment - the city wanted the upper courts to overturn the Durban High Court ruling in 2022, which ordered it to pay Daily Double Trading R30 million as a settlement to the R43 million claim the company had made for work done. The municipality argued that it did not authorise an attorney to settle with the service provider; therefore, it could not be liable for the payment. However, it did not oppose the matter in court. The municipality is now liable for an additional R20 million in expenditures, including substantial legal fees, as a result of the matter continuing since 2018 at an interest rate of 10% annually. Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the MEC for the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), called on the municipality to recover the money from the officials involved in causing the wasteful expenditure. Gaffar said the ERPM reiterates its longstanding concern over the widespread culture of impunity, maladministration, and legal recklessness within the municipality. He said that ratepayers were being forced to absorb the financial consequences. He applauded Buthelezi's decisive intervention and his demand for full disclosure of legal costs, as well as disciplinary action against those responsible. 'This is not merely an issue of legal error, but it is a systemic governance failure that has placed further strain on an already embattled municipality, struggling with service delivery backlogs, infrastructure decay, and financial instability,' Gaffar said. The ERPM called for the full implementation of consequence management measures, including disciplinary processes, civil recovery of losses, and, where warranted, criminal referrals.
