It's the end of the Ryan for Morah and Don
Well-known couple have gone separate ways after six-year relationship Late 2FM DJ Gerry Ryan's widow Morah and musician Don amicably parted ways in recent weeks after a six-year relationship. Friends of Morah initially told members of the Dublin social scene about the break-up and Don last night confirmed the news of the separation. 'It's sad when two people drift apart,' said Don, when contacted by the Sunday World to ask about the development. End of the line for Morah Ryan and Don Mescal Today's News in 90 Seconds - July 6th 'I guess Morah and I were on different trajectories at this stage of life. We had some great adventures and they will make great memories. She will always be special to me.' Morah was also contacted for comment. Don – who has written hit songs for the Backstreet Boys, Boyzone, Cliff Richard, Sharon Corr, Brett Eldredge and Nathan Carter – began dating Morah six years ago, having previously met her through her daughter Bonnie. Morah recently marked the 15th anniversary of the death of her late husband, Gerry Ryan, the father of her five children. Don with Kirsty Bertarelli She and Don met in London while her daughter Bonnie was recording with the Limerick-born musician there. Four years later, in 2019, Don was invited to perform at a celebration night in Dublin's Gaiety for late TV presenter and musician friend Shay Healy. '[Riverdance producer] John McColgan introduced her [Morah] to me at the after party in the Gaiety and we kind of just clicked again,' he smiles. Morah regularly visited Don at his home on an island in Co. Leitrim. The singer previously told us that his relationship with Morah was 'a match made in heaven'. video 'Morah, apart from being quite beautiful, is wonderfully artistic, a talented sculptor, a poet, and has an eye for incredible design,' he beamed. 'We both have a love for old buildings so it's a match made in heaven; especially as I live in an old church from the 1800s – I suppose she also completely relates to what I do as a writer, and she loves music. Don is due to play a number of gigs across Ireland later this year and is currently recording a song with socialite Kirsty Bertarelli. The pair, who are shooting a video together, are pictured here recently on her private jet on the continent. Kirsty won Miss United Kingdom in 1988 and took part in that year's Miss World. She is a singer-songwriter and is a former wife of billionaire Italian-Swiss businessman Ernesto Bertarelli (her maiden name is Roger). He owned biotech giant Serono until 2007 and twice won the America's Cup yachting race. In the Sunday Times Rich List of 2017, her former husband's family were placed 6th with an estimated fortune of over €13 billion, making her Britain's richest woman. The couple divorced in 2021.

The Parsis who once ran theatres in Madras
Cinema theatres and Parsis – both are dwindling in numbers. This thought came to my mind while researching about the golden age of single-screen theatres in Chennai city, and I realised that many were run by Parsis. I have managed to count seven. I am sure readers will send in replies with more. While the first Indian to own cinema theatres in Madras was undoubtedly Raghupathy Venkaiah with his Gaiety, Crown and Roxy, dating to 1914/1915, J.F. Madan, of the famed Madan Picture Palace chain was already here, renting the Lyric theatre at the intersection of Wallajah and Mount Roads and renaming it Elphinstone. By 1915, he had moved across Round Tana and begun New Elphinstone where the Raheja Complex stands today. For a brief while, after Venkaiah was adjudged insolvent in the 1920s, his Gaiety too was run by a Mrs. Piroja Madan, who may have been related to the Madans of the Elphinstone chain. Gaiety, after changing hands several times, is now a commercial complex. Only for European audience In the meanwhile, another Parsi was making a name for himself in the field and it was Seth Rustomji Dorabji Wellington. Having made a success in Bombay of a distributorship in cycles under the name of Wellington, in collaboration with the West End Cycle Co. of London, he came to Madras in the early 1900s. In 1918, he sub-leased land at the Mount Road/General Patters Road corner from the D.D. Italia family and put up his Wellington Theatre. Further down General Patters Road came up his West End Theatre. Rustomji Dorabji screened only English films and only for a European clientele but his sons, on inheriting the theatres, Indianised them. Thus, Burjorji Dorabji, who got Wellington, screened Hindi and Tamil films, with Gemini's productions always premiering there. Framji Dorabji soon sold his West End to A.K. Ramachandran Iyer who constructed Midland on the same premises. Wellington bit the dust in the 1980s, becoming a commercial complex under the name of Wellington Plaza. Midland and Westland were bought by actress Jaya Prada and her brother Raja Babu and named after them. Today, they are mere ruins. In 1941, the Iranian family constructed Casino Theatre, next to Gaiety. It is said that they were traditionally into ice making, but when the Wellington family ventured into it, they, in revenge, decided to get into the theatre business. The son of the family was an architect and he designed Casino, which very likely was the first Art Deco-styled theatre of the city. Casino had a long and glorious run before it too faded. It still is a theatre, which is something of a miracle, though its lovely facade is now boxed in, in the most unimaginative way. Parsis seem to have lost interest in theatres for quite some time thereafter. But, in the 1960s came Eros in Adyar, catering to the newly developing locality. It was promoted by the Iranis (were they of the Casino family, I wonder?), with the Maneckjis and the Careys and it had a brief run for even then theatres were on the wane. Other partners came in and they converted it into a wedding hall. The place is now an automobile showroom. Of course, the first Parsis in the entertainment business in Madras were of the itinerant drama company variety. Among those, the Batliwala Drama Company was the most famous and hired the tent in the Esplanade Maidan where the Madras High Court now stands. That was in the mid 19th century. Indeed, Madan himself is believed to have worked in a drama company before he took to cinema exhibitions.

'Housefull 5' director Tarun Mansukhani says 'You can't come to me at 11 am and say, 'Oh, I need to leave at 5' amid Deepika Padukone's 'Spirit' row
He added, 'I want to go home and spend time with my dog. So I get the vibe and totally get the feeling. But just put it in the contract from the beginning, then everyone's prepared.' read more Ever since Deepika Padukone has quit Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, people like Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Mani Ratnam, Rana Daggubati have supported her stand. 'Housefull 5' director Tarun Mansukhani has done the same recently but his choices of words are getting mixed reactions. The director said, 'You can't come to me at 11 am and say, 'Oh, I need to leave at 5.' I have scenes to finish with other actors, a location that may not be available again, and a budget to look into.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD He added, 'I want to go home and spend time with my dog. So I get the vibe and totally get the feeling. But just put it in the contract from the beginning, then everyone's prepared.' One wrote- 'The answer is very kiddish. An 8-hour contract is the actress's demand, if you can go with it then ok. If you can't go with it, look for other options professionally. Instead these people are questioning her about how she can do it. Comparing dog with family and her first kid. Omg.' Housefull 5 As Housefull 5 has released in cinemas and doing reasonably well at the box-office, Akshay Kumar stepped out for the public review at the popular Gaiety cinema in Bandra, Mumbai wearing the mask the killer wears in the comedy. He even shared the video on his Instagram and wrote- 'Bas yun hi I decided to wear the killer mask and interview people coming out of the Housefull5 show at Bandra today. Pakda jaane wala thaa end mein but bhaag gaya us se pehle. Mast experience.' One wrote- 'Last Me Mask Hatakar Dhamaka 😍 Dena Chahiye Tha.' Another said, 'Kya log hai itni clear voice nahi pehchaan sakte kaash me waha hoti.' That was a film about the valour of the Indian Air Force, a film against the backdrop of a true story that falls under the genre of drama. His next was Kesari Chapter 2, again inspired by true events, the aftermath of the Jallianwallah Bagh massacre. Kumar played a lawyer in an intense and impressive performance. It was a commercial success, and also starred R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. Come September, it's time for the audiences to witness the courtroom battle between Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi in Jolly LLB 3. This is the one film that should be able to deliver both critically and commercially. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Housefull 5 Box Office prediction: Akshay eyes biggest opening of 2025
Housefull 5 BO collection Day 1 Prediction: Akshay Kumar is back in the limelight with his third big release of the year — Housefull 5. Following the patriotic drama Sky Force and action-packed Kesari Chapter 2, the superstar now dives into his most ambitious comedy yet. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, this fifth instalment of the fan-favourite Housefull franchise promises double the madness and chaos the series is known for. Housefull 5 is a comedy thriller that features a murder mystery involving a billionaire and three imposters claiming his fortune. The star-studded cast includes Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonam Bajwa, Jacqueline Fernandez, Abhishek Bachchan, and more. The movie has already caught attention thanks to its exciting trailer and catchy songs. Housefull 5 box office collection day 1 Akshay Kumar's movie is expected to be his biggest opening of the year and is likely to surpass the collection of Sky Force and Kesari Chapter 2. Film trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal has predicted that Housefull 5 could earn between ₹22 to ₹25 crore on its opening day. Housefull 5 advance booking Even before its theatrical release, Housefull 5 has raked in impressive numbers through advance bookings. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned ₹13.94 crore on Day 1 from pre-release ticket sales alone. Of this, version 5A brought in ₹5.67 crore, while version 5B added ₹2.35 crore. These figures come from over 17,000 shows scheduled across India, signalling a strong opening for the comedy franchise. The film is expected to perform exceptionally well in metropolitan areas. Maharashtra leads with ₹2.95 crore in advance bookings, followed by Delhi NCR at ₹2.34 crore. Gujarat and Karnataka are not far behind, contributing ₹1.25 crore and ₹1.02 crore respectively. Housefull 5 has two climaxes Unlike its predecessors, Housefull 5 takes a bold leap with a unique concept — dual endings. Released in two formats, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B, each version offers a different climax, giving audiences a fresh twist depending on which version they watch. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has confirmed that Housefull 5 will have two different climaxes. "I have been thinking about this idea for the past 30 years - how to create a thriller with an X factor that leaves the audience talking long after they leave the theatre. So I came up with a story where every theatre will have a different killer. So if you watch it at Gaiety, it'll have one killer. If you watch it at Galaxy, there'll be somebody else. In PVR screen number 4, you'll see a different killer, and in PVR screen number 5, yet another one. It's like every time you watch the film, you'll get a different ending," the producer said during the trailer launch. Housefull 5: India's most expensive comedy With a budget of ₹225 crore, Housefull 5 is officially India's costliest comedy film. Released across 5,000+ screens, it marks the biggest comedy release ever. All signs point to a blockbuster opening for this grand entertainer.
