NORTHEAST GEORGIA MEDICAL'S LEVEL I TRAUMA CENTER ENROLLS 170TH PATIENT FOR PRYTIME MEDICAL'S INTERNATIONAL STUDY
GAINESVILLE, Ga., June 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- When patients arrive at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) in Gainesville with traumatic injuries, they're not only receiving the most advanced, expert care – they're helping to improve health care for people around the world. NGMC recently enrolled the 170th patient in the Partial REBOA Outcomes Multicenter ProspecTive (PROMPT) study, which shares data to improve outcomes for those critically injured patients. A pREBOA-PRO™ catheter was used to control life-threatening bleeding in the 170th patient, who arrived at the hospital's Level I Trauma Center, following a blunt trauma injury. The intervention stabilized the patient, reduced the need for additional blood products and ultimately saved their life. The trauma team at NGMC Gainesville routinely performs partial aortic occlusion – restricting blood flow through the aorta, the largest artery in the body – using the pREBOA-PRO™ device. As part of the PROMPT study, the team shares data on the use of the device to help advance clinical care. "When someone experiences a traumatic injury, every second matters," said Michael Cormican, MD, trauma surgeon at NGMC Gainesville. "We are grateful for the opportunity to support research that can lead to better outcomes for trauma patients." The international PROMPT study, funded by the Department of Defense, aims to ultimately enroll 340 patients across nine selected centers. NGMC patients who meet the study criteria are automatically enrolled. Alijah Martin drafted by Toronto Raptors in second round of 2025 NBA draft
Alijah Martin's basketball journey just reached the next level. The former Florida basketball guard was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the No. 39 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, capping off a five-year college career that included two Final Four appearances and a national championship. Martin becomes the latest Florida product to reach the NBA, joining former teammate Walter Clayton Jr. in this year's draft who was drafted in the first round, as well as a legacy of Gators who've transitioned from Gainesville to the pros. Martin made history before even hearing his name called. He became the first player to start in a Final Four for two different programs–first with Florida Atlantic in 2023, then again with the Gators in 2025, where he helped deliver Florida's first national title since 2007. In his lone season under Florida basketball head coach Todd Golden, Martin averaged 14.4 points, knocked down 79 threes and hit several clutch shots, including a pair of free throws in the title game that sealed the championship against the Houston Cougars. Over his full college career, Martin totaled 2,022 points, 786 rebounds, 321 threes and 211 steals, showcasing a gritty, two-way skill set that made him a fan favorite and a reliable scorer wherever he played. The Summit, Mississippi native is known not just for his highlight-reel dunks and three-point range, but also for his leadership and big-game DNA. Martin scored double digits in 11 straight games starting March 1, including 17 points in the Final Four win over the Auburn Tigers and 10 points in the Elite Eight victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Now, Martin will look to bring that same energy, edge and winning pedigree to the Toronto Raptors. Whether it's as a scorer off the bench or a defensive spark plug, the Florida standout has all the tools to carve out a role at the next level. Billy Napier and the Florida Gators have been one of the more aggressive teams in their college football recruiting. Advertisement Already securing lots of high end talent, they are in the running for plenty of more recruits, who they would love to see in Gainesville. Their 2026 recruiting class has continued strong, as they look to secure another top 10 recruiting class, currently with the No. 13 class in the country. On Monday, the Gators received major recruiting news, as they have won a big recruiting battle with in-state three-star offensive lineman Javarii Luckas, who will join the team in Gainesville in 2026. Advertisement Luckas is now the 11th recruit so far in the 2026 class, with him being the third offensive lineman recruit. Still looking to claim their first top 100 recruit of the window, they certainly are off to a strong start with rounding out their recruiting board. Looking a step earlier to their 2025 class, there is a lot of promise going into the first season with quarterback DJ Lagway at the helm full-time. With the returning players on the offensive side of the ball, as well as a five-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III coming in, Lagway and the Gators look to be one of the more explosive teams in 2025. The Gators will be kicking off their 2025 campaign with two home, in-state games against LIU and USF, before beginning SEC play at LSU. Florida's Offensive Line Group Receives High Praise From Former SEC Star
Florida's Offensive Line Group Receives High Praise From Former SEC Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Florida Gators won their final four games of the 2024 season. Notably, Florida outperformed the top-ranked LSU Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels during the home stretch while also defeating a nine-win Tulane Green Wave in their bowl game. Offensively, the Gators leaned on a methodical rushing game and a strong offensive line to post their first winning season in four years. Florida Gators running back Jadan Baugh (13).Matt Pendleton-Imagn Images Head coach Billy Napier's squad will have the chance this year to do something many programs are incapable of doing in the NIL era. Alongside quarterback DJ Lagway, much of the offensive line from the 2024 campaign will return for the Gators this fall. Advertisement Starting left tackle Austin Barber, left guard Knijeah Harris, center Jake Slaughter, and right guard Damieon George Jr. will all return to Gainesville in 2025 after starting the team's bowl game victory. Meanwhile, former three-star tackle Bryce Lovett and Arkansas Razorbacks transfer Devon Manuel will compete for the final starting position. On the Always College Football Podcast, host and former Alabama Crimson Tide starting quarterback Greg McElroy called Florida's front five the third-best in the country. "You got Jake Slaughter back, who is big-time at center. Him being back is massive. Austin Barber is back at left tackle. A guy that was generating some NFL draft buzz decided to return. I do look at what you have back on the interior. The guard spot, I think you like those pieces," said McElroy alongside his co-host Cole Cubelic. He continued, saying, "I would imagine you just have to figure out right tackle. Now, for the most part, this should be one of the best groups in the country, assuming all those pieces can come together and reach their collective goal."
