The latest Longhorn to add some hardware to their trophy case is catcher Rylan Galvan, who has been named an All-American. After a career year, Galvan's latest award comes as no surprise. During his junior season, Galvan appeared in 56 games and was an anchor in the Longhorns lineup. He set career highs in home runs with 15, RBI with 47, and hits with 55. For the third straight year, the Texas native set new career highs in games played and took his play to another level. This is not the first time Galvan has made headlines since the Longhorns' regular season ended. Last week, he was named a finalist for the Buster Poset Award. Each year, the award is given to the best catcher in Division 1 baseball. The Longhorns star will know his fate for that honor by the end of the month. Whenever Galvan was in the lineup, Texas had a bat that could make a difference and a catcher pitchers could trust. He caught nine runners stealing and only committed four errors. The Sinton High School product finished the 2025 campaign with a .992 fielding percentage. Due to his stellar season, Galvan's stock is on the rise. He only has one year left of eligibility and has the potential to be a very good star at the next level. Regardless of what the future holds, he has made the most of his time at Texas while continually earning national recognition for his play.

Longhorns catcher named finalist for prestigious award Rylan Galvan earns national recognition for his play Texas Longhorns catcher Rylan Galvan could soon be adding to his trophy case. The Texas native has been named a finalist for the Buster Posey Award. Each year, the award is given to the best catcher in Division 1 baseball. The other finalists are Caden Bodine and Carson Tinney. In 56 games during the 2025 campaign, Galvan was one of the Longhorns' best players. He set career highs in home runs with 15, RBI with 57, and hits with 55. For the first time in his career, the Sinton High School product appeared in more than 53 games. With an increased workload, Galvin took his game to another level. While Galvan made headlines with his bat he also impressed in the field. The talented junior finished the regular season with a .992 fielding percentage. He only committed four errors and added 31 assists to his resume. Although the Longhorns fell short of their ultimate goal, Galvan was a bright spot. In Bodine and Tunney, Galvan is going up against two players coming off impressive seasons. Bodine posted a .329 batting average while driving in 38 runs for Coastal Carolina in 50 games. Tinney, like his fellow finalists, thrived at the plate. He finished his sophomore campaign with a .348 batting average in 48 games for Notre Dame. This talented trio will not have to wait long to learn their fate. The winner of the Buster Posey Award will be announced in 18 days. Galvan aims to make history by becoming the first Buster Posey/Johnny Bench National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award winner in Longhorns history.

Article content Among those who reached out with condolences and sympathy were King Charles, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron. Article content Galvan, the seventh of 10 children born to farmer parents in a remote village in the Philippines, said he was supposed to be at the festival, but the death of Pope Francis required his attention elsewhere. Article content 'Sometimes we get broken, we don't know the reason, but something happened in our lives and so for us, we're not just praying for those who have died, we also pray for the one who caused this pain,' Galvan said. 'He's a human being also like us. Article content Article content 'We pray for him as well, because there are things that we do not understand as human beings … this is very important because when we pray, we raise our minds and hearts.' Article content Galvan was in attendance at Thursday's mass in support of St. Andrew's pastor Fr. Salvador Reyes Jr., who began the service with the hymn Christ Be Our Light: 'Shine in our hearts, shine through the darkness.' Article content That was followed with a passage from Isiah that, Reyes said, emphasizes God's mercy and compassion, even toward sinners: 'I will not accuse them forever, nor will I always be angry.' Memorial mass in Vancouver to mark 40 days since Lapu Lapu Day attack
Members of Vancouver's Filipino community and others will honour and pray for victims of the Lapu Lapu festival attack at a memorial mass today, 40 days after the tragedy that left 11 people dead. The date is significant in Filipino Catholic tradition as the end of a mourning period, and Rev. Francis Galvan says he expects the mass at St. Andrew's Parish church in East Vancouver at 6 p.m. to be crowded. 'It is believed that the soul remains close to us during these 40 days, before finding peace and fully departing from the physical world.' The statement lists names and ages of all 11 people who died in the attack, who ranged in age from five to 60. 'This is not closure,' Filipino BC said of the 40th day. 'Healing does not follow a schedule. But today offers a moment to pause. To gather. To feel. And to remind ourselves that healing, while difficult, is possible when we do it together.' 2:22 Brief court appearance for Lapu Lapu Day suspect RJ Aquino, who chairs Filipino BC, said the aftermath of the April 26 attack had cast a shadow over Filipino Heritage Month, which is marked every June. The City of Vancouver has separately announced plans for a large-scale memorial event later this month to honour the victims. Attack suspect Adam Kai-Ji Lo faces eight counts of second-degree murder, and Vancouver police have said more charges are expected. He is due back in court on Friday, as preparations to determine if he's fit to stand trial continue.
