Michigan State football left off Sporting News' preseason bowl projections
Will Michigan State snap its three-year bowl-less streak this upcoming season? Bill Bender at Sporting News doesn't think so. Bender released updated bowl projections late last month, which failed to include the Spartans. Bender elected to have Wisconsin land in the GameAbove Sports Bowl and Rutgers in the Rate Bowl over Michigan State finding its way into those two lower tier Big Ten bowl games. Michigan State is looking to bounce back from a rough finish to the opening season under new head coach Jonathan Smith. The Spartans opened 2024 with a 3-0 record before struggling to reach bowl eligibility and finishing 5-7 overall. Michigan State comes into this season with a win total over-under of 5.5 so the betting experts think the Spartans will once again be right around bowl eligibility this year. However, most of the preseason bowl projections I've came across are like Bender and don't have the Spartans bowling this year. The Spartans will kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against in-state foe Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on FS1. Michigan State football left off Athlon Sports' preseason bowl projections
Where does Steve Lassan of Athlon Sports have Michigan State football bowling this season? Well, unfortunately, no where. Lassan released some early bowl projections for the upcoming season earlier this week and somewhat surprisingly he left the Spartans out of the mix. He didn't even have them in the list of teams he considered "just missing the projections." Click here to see the complete bowl projections from Lassan on Athlon Sports. Michigan State is coming off three straight seasons of missing the postseason, including a 5-7 finish last year in new head coach Jonathan Smith's first campaign. The Spartans opened up last year with a 3-0 mark before a rough 2-7 finish to the year. Lassan has Rutgers landing in the GameAbove Sports Bowl and Minnesota going to the Rate Bowl. Those are two landing spots I could see Michigan State end up this season but clearly he likes the Scarlet Knights and Golden Gophers better than our Spartans. Michigan State kicks off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan at Spartan Stadium. Kickoff in the opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET with the game set to be televised on FS1. Pitt Football Preview 2025: Make-or-Break Year for the Panthers
X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFNPitt Offense BreakdownPitt Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to SeasonThe 0-6 finish by Pitt was bad, but at least it doesn't have the Steelers' quarterback problem.(The college team will start the season with the best quarterback in the city at any level - that's a half joke, but Eli Holstein is a good one.)It's a make-or-break year for every college football head coach - you're one three-game losing streak away from being on a hot seat. But this really is a season when Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi needs to pull a full-grown rabbit out of his hat. The GameAbove Sports Bowl loss to Toledo, and how that shook out with the various decisions that didn't work, would've been enough to put just about any coach on Triple Open-Sourced Probation, but he always seems to come through when there's trouble went 42-34 in his first six seasons. The only bowl win was against Eastern Michigan, and nothing was happening, and then … kaboom. The 2021 team won the ACC Championship, it would've been in an expanded 12-team playoff, and the breakthrough was followed up by a strong 9-4 then he and the Panthers went 10-15 over the last two seasons. Worse yet, after a 7-0 start, highlighted by a takeaway-fest over Syracuse, everything fell apart after a blowout loss to SMU. Pitt lost its final six games - to be fair, the schedule was nasty, playing nine bowl teams in the final 11 games - helped by a slew of injuries. There was a power outage on offense, the defense couldn't stop anyone, and it should all pay off this didn't do much through the transfer portal, because he didn't need to. The team is built up with home grown experience, there's a great quarterback in place to get fired up about, and …This had better be a strong year for the Panthers - and it should Offense BreakdownPitt Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to Season © 2025 The Arena Group Holdings, Inc. Pitt Panthers Quarterback Julian Dugger Announces Transfer Destination
Former Pitt Panthers quarterback Julian Dugger officially announced his new collegiate destination. Dugger will suit up for the Washington State Cougars next season. After appearing in only one game for Pitt last year, Dugger was eligible for a redshirt as a freshman and will have four years of eligibility remaining for Washington State. Advertisement As a freshman, Dugger completed 7 of 13 passes for 72 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception with Pitt last year. He also rushed for 88 yards and a score. Credit: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Dugger's lone game appearance came during the Panthers loss to Toledo in the GameAbove Sports Bowl. He was dynamic in nearly carrying Pitt to a comeback win in the 48-46 defeat in six overtimes. A 6'3" and 210-Lb. left-handed quarterback, Dugger was an explosive dual-threat for Penn Hills High School in western Pennsylvania before attending Pitt. With the Panthers committed to now-sophomore quarterback Eli Holstein, Dugger announced his plans to transfer shortly into the offseason. Advertisement Dugger was the second transfer quarterback signed by Washington State in the last week. The Cougars also added former Rutgers quarterback Ajani Sheppard. They'll be two of six quarterbacks on the Washington State roster this fall. Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Eli Holstein (10) throws a pass against the Cincinnati Bearcats. However, they'll both face competition from Dugger, Sheppard, and incoming freshmen Dalton Anderson and Owen Eshelman. Julian Dugger leaves a Pitt Panthers team that started the 2024-25 season by winning their first seven games but lost their last six contests of the year. After his performance in Pitt's bowl game, most expected that Panthers offensive coordinator Kade Bell would find a role for Dugger. Advertisement This offseason, Pitt brought in Oklahoma transfer quarterback Cole Gonzales to back up Eli Holstein. Gonzales had previously played for Kade Bell when both were at Western Carolina.
