Review: Meet the game controller with a focus on floral patterns and funky lights

We live in a world where tech doesn't just have to be brilliant, it also needs to look good. Game controllers are just one of the things that need to look good as well as do the job for the gamer. GameSir is a specialist in controllers for PC, Android, Xbox and Switch devices and has released a wide array of products in this marketplace. Its latest is the T7 Pro Floral Wired Controller for the Xbox which has a very obvious standout pattern that makes it really eye-catching. I'll be honest on two fronts, flowery games controllers and a wired device would not normally be my go-to choice, but there is a lot to like here. Let's look at the visuals first, the design is funky and coats the front with a subtle light blue, turquoise design that actually really does look very smart. The semi-transparent casing of the controller looks superb with the RGB lighting included providing a stunning effect. In short, it looks absolutely brilliant, it's a crafted piece of kit that is designed to impress. GameSir know what it is doing with these controllers too and this is packed with the best tech you need for a solid gaming experience. With Hall Effect Trigger systems giving the smoothest of experiences, gameplay is highly responsive and rewarding. Vibration comes from rumble motors in the grips and triggers. The Nexus app is the place to go for customising buttons and changing the responsiveness. It adds to the mix and gives control for gamers to enjoy the controller to suit their needs. As I say, I'm not a fan of wired controllers, mainly because I'm used to wireless devices these days, but after a while I didn't mind. It's a really good responsive experience. I like the GameSir range and have had a good experience with its controllers, and the fact that this also looks so sharp is a bonus. What users say Jennifer Young: "The GameSir T7 Pro Floral takes the original and adds 2 back buttons and some 2-step trigger stops, and on the whole, it does feel a lot better quality build than the T7. The Floral design gave me the impression it would be a little flimsier, but it's a sturdy piece of kit." Scott Webster: "The most obvious update here is aesthetic: a floral-patterned matte shell paired with a semi-transparent finish and dynamic RGB lighting. It's the kind of controller that looks just as at home in a curated setup as it does in the heat of battle. But underneath that glow is a full-featured wired controller built for responsive, accurate play." Alternatives

The GameSir Cyclone 2 Has One Thing That Keeps It From Being a Great Nintendo Switch Controller

GameSir has made a name for itself over the past few years by building solid gaming controllers with top-notch features, often at lower prices than the competition. One of its latest controllers, the Cyclone 2, offers a lot of great things including support for multiple platforms, several connectivity options and solid triggers and joysticks. But the lackluster buttons and janky software make it hard to recommend when there are dozens of other great controllers for around the same price. What I like about the GameSir Cyclone 2 The first thing I love about the Cyclone 2 is how it feels to hold. Ergonomically the Cyclone 2 feels similar to the standard Xbox controller from Microsoft, which is a good thing. It's also got a decent amount of weight to it, which feels reassuring without getting tiring. There are vibration motors in both sides, which almost makes the controller feel more premium than the price might suggest. The Hall Effect triggers are nice, and can be toggled to become a micro switch hair trigger. You can also turn on a Hair Trigger mode via software which lets you still use the full Hall Effect trigger, yet still get the hair trigger action if you prefer. I personally prefer the physical micro switch, but if you need the extra milliseconds, you do you. GameSir The rear paddles are well-positioned for my hands, and they and the bumpers are quite tactile and responsive. However, the rest of the hardware is a mixed bag. The face buttons, for example, just feel mushy. During my testing I was always worried for a split second that my actions wouldn't register. While the triggers are Hall Effect, the joysticks are GameSir's own proprietary Mag-Res TMR which they claim are even more durable than Hall Effect Sticks. I couldn't find much technical information about them other than they have a 1,000Hz polling rate and a 4,096 sampling resolution. They felt fine to use and I didn't notice much a difference compared to other joysticks. One of my favorite things about the Cyclone 2 is its broad cross-platform support, letting you use one controller for just about everything. You can use the Cyclone 2 with Nintendo Switch, PC, Android and iOS (oddly, there's a slot on top for a mobile mount to hold your smartphone, but GameSir confirmed to me that they don't sell that accessory anymore). GameSir Cyclone 2 Jason Cockerham There's no official Xbox or PlayStation support, but you can play both consoles remotely from a PC, which the Cyclone 2 supports just fine. I tested this out and had no issues, both streaming from each console and playing my Xbox games directly on my PC via Game Pass. You'll need to use something like reWASD or PSPlay to remap the buttons on the Cyclone 2 for use with the PlayStation, which should work fine. My favorite feature of the Cyclone 2 is enabled by the included charging stand. Simply lift the controller off the stand and it automatically turns on and reconnects to your last connected device. It's beyond convenient to literally pick up the controller and without doing anything else, by the time I've sat down in my chair, it's ready to go. The one big letdown Sadly, the Cyclone 2 has one glaring missing piece: its supporting software. GameSir has always been behind the competition with its software, and that holds true with its PC app, GameSir Connect. To be fair, it does work and does what it's supposed to, but the whole UI is a bit janky and feels way too crowded. Overall, $56 ($49 without the charging stand) isn't an unreasonable price for a decent controller, but truthfully, there are several others I would recommend instead.

It's almost a bit boring when compared to the GameSir's $69.99 Tarantula Pro that can change the layout of its face button labels. But for $29.99, the Nova 2 Lite could be a solid alternative to 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C with Hall effect joysticks and triggers that can be locked to a shorter travel for FPS games. It also includes an extra pair of remappable back buttons and is compatible with the Switch, PCs, iOS, and Android.

The GameSir G7 SE Is a Great Cheap Controller

GameSir may not be a household name in tech, but when I was working on an update for our favorite Xbox accessories, I kept seeing it pop up. People seemed eager to recommend a budget-friendly controller from a relatively unknown brand. The appeal isn't hard to see. It offers Hall Effect sensors, a 1,000-Hz polling rate, and two rear bumpers, all for less than a first-party controller. The catch? It's only available in a wired version. I think that's a tradeoff most PC gamers will be happy to live with, but it may be less appealing if you intend to sit in front of a TV. If that isn't a deal-breaker, you may find the G7 SE is just the ticket for occasional controller gaming, with extensive customization options, the latest tech, and a very wallet-friendly price point. If you're looking for a new controller and are on budget, this might be the one. Photograph: Brad Bourque Sticks and Buttons Hall Effect sticks are all the rage lately, and they have been slowly replacing classic membrane joysticks over the last few years. While those can wear out with time, creating dreaded stick drift, magnetic Hall Effect sensors should have a much longer lifetime, more precise readings, and customizable options. We have a great article explaining their benefits if you want to learn more. The trade-off is typically that they cost more, but not in the G7 SE's case! Hall Effect sticks feel mostly like normal joysticks; they have a snappy centering action with a light recoil, and glide very smoothly, especially around the outside edge. They require a slightly heavy press for the button effect, but that at least will prevent accidentally bumping them. Photograph: Brad Bourque
