The latter took place last week, and it was a rousing success, raising millions of dollars for charity. Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) took place from July 6 to July 13, 2025, with a week-long, 24-hour a day stream featuring a host of popular speedrunners playing dozens of games with viewers encouraged to donate to support Doctors Without Borders. It was a wildly successful event, too, with viewers donating a massive $2,436,614 to the charity throughout the week. Games Done Quick Speedrunning is a competitive type of gameplay that sees players trying to complete a video game as fast as they possibly can. The event was capped off with a glitchless run of Deltarune, the latest game from Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, which had multiple "bid wars" in which viewers could donate money to a specific choice that can be made by the runner in the game. While the almost $2.5 million raised during this year's stream is certainly admirable, it's far from the biggest success story in Games Done Quick history. 2022's SGDQ brought in over $3 million, while 2022's AGDQ raised $3.44 million dollars for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. To date, the event has raised over $55 million for charity, most of which has gone to Doctors Without Borders, the primary recipient for SGDQ, and Prevent Cancer Foundation, the primary recipient for AGDQ. Games Done Quick has also held a series of smaller marathon events for other charities, such as Direct Relief, the National Women's Law Center, and The Trevor Project, among many others.

Another weeklong round-the-clock spree of speedrunning video games has come to a close, with Summer Games Done Quick raising $2,436,614 for Doctors Without Borders. Held in Minneapolis, the event saw 37,776 donations, with the highest contribution being a solo $61,200 donation. This year, 2,600 in-person attendees got to experience a hectic relay race pitting two teams of four against each other to complete a Super Mario Maker 2 level and a full playthrough of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat in less than an hour while using one of the most unique controllers ever made, the DK Bongos. The crowd is just as important during these speedruns, and that proved true with a particularly electric crowd during the AEW Fight Night Forever run that finished in around 40 minutes. If you didn't happen to catch it live, GamesDoneQuick's Twitch channel has every run archived so you can relive the fun. The organization's next event, Flame Fatales, will feature an all-women and femmes speedrunning showcase from September 7 to 14. After that, GamesDoneQuick will launch its brand new Games Done Queer event from October 31 to November 2.

How to watch Summer Games Done Quick 2025
Grab your grill, your hot dogs, and your sparklers because it's time to celebrate… Summer Games Done Quick 2025. The annual speedrunning charity marathon benefitting Doctors without Borders is back starting July 6th and finishes July 12th. Here's how and most importantly what to watch as you enjoy the reason for the speedrunning season. Summer Games Done Quick 2025 starts on Sunday July 6th at 1:30 PM ET on Twitch. Games Done Quick's YouTube channel will have VODs up typically within a few short hours after the run completes so don't worry if you miss anything live. There's interesting runs every day during primetime so always check the schedule for what's going on. You should also check in during off-hours and in the middle of the day because that's how you find the hidden gems like LRock617's run of Batman Forever: The Arcade Game at AGDQ 2025. As for runs I'm excited about, there's a Blue Prince race late Monday night July 7th, a Titanfall 2 race on Wednesday July 9th, and a Balatro run I will be seated for on Friday July 11th. For this year's finale on Saturday, there will be a bonus run of Mario Kart World Knockout races and Deltarune Chapter 1 and 2. With the way I know GDQ works, I have a sneaking suspicion there will be a bonus incentive to donate towards that, if met, will unlock a run of Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 as well. I hope I'm right. With all the tumult going on in the video game industry right now it's helpful to have something positive to turn to. That's what Summer Games Done Quick is for. And this year, it's needed more than ever as something to remind us that despite everything, video games, the people who make them, and the community, are pretty dang cool.

How to watch Summer Games Done Quick 2025
In a mad, mad world, speedruns for charity can be a calm oasis. Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) has your fix with the 2025 edition of the marathon. You can tune in starting on Sunday, July 6. As usual, the lineup includes loads of fun games and bonkers challenges. It's fitting that this year's lineup includes a Switch 2 game. On the event's last day, the speedrunner Peas will take on Mario Kart World on the new console. Perhaps to commemorate the new console's launch, Nintendo is everywhere at this event. There are three Zelda games on tap: Majora's Mask , Phantom Hourglass and Link's Awakening . The company's plumber mascot is peppered all over the place, too. You'll find Mario Kart: Super Circuit , Super Mario Odyssey , Mario Paint and the Super Mario World hack, Sayonara Mario World 2 . (Not done yet!) There's also Super Mario Maker 2 , Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 64 . There's plenty of non-Nintendo stuff, too. The week kicks off with an "All Emeralds Glitched" run of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 . One of Engadget's all-time favorites, Balatro , has a run scheduled on July 11. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle makes an appearance. And two speedrunning legends will try to beat Cuphead during an allotted 35 minutes. (Say what??!) Anyone who can finish that bloodbath in less than that should be named the leader of the free world. It offers medical and humanitarian care in over 70 countries. Last summer's event raised $2.5 million. To date, Games Done Quick events have raised over $50 million for charity.
