Teenager killed in horror crash as Gardai close busy road

A teenage motorist has died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Co Cork on Monday morning. Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene on the N71 road between Ballinhassig and Innishannon at approximately 7.15am following reports of a serious collision between a car and a truck. Despite the best efforts of the medical personnel, the driver of the car, a man in his late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí have confirmed that the N71 remains completely closed at Tureen, located between the Halfway Roundabout and Bandon, to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigator. The closure affects traffic travelling in both directions and local diversions are in place. Gardaí remain at the scene directing traffic away from the incident. The road is expected to remain closed for some time, and motorists travelling in the area can divert at either Bandon or the Halfway roundabout, taking the R589 that passes through Cross Barry to avoid the affected stretch of road. Gardaí have launched an investigation into the fatal collision and are urging for any witnesses to contact them.
