Former Alabama coach Mitch Gaspard gets new role in college athletics
Gaspard won 236 games in seven seasons as Alabama's head coach and led the Crimson Tide to a Super Regional in 2010. This is a cool hire and role. @LionUpAthletics is hiring former Alabama head coach and Louisiana Tech top assistant Mitch Gaspard as the special assistant to the AD for special initiatives. Good to see Mitch staying in college athletics. @JayArtigues A former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach is returning to college sports. Mitch Gaspard, who won 236 games as Alabama's baseball coach from 2010-2016, is joining Southeastern University in Hammond, Louisiana. Gaspard will work as a special assistant to the athletic director for special initiatives. Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball reported the news on Thursday. Gaspard will work and report directly to Southeastern Director of Athletics Jay Artigues, himself a former head baseball coach at the school. In seven seasons with the Crimson Tide, Gaspard led Alabama baseball to four NCAA Tournament appearances. He guided the Crimson Tide to wins over top-eight national seed Georgia Tech in back-to-back days at the NCAA tournament's Atlanta Regional in 2010. Alabama forced a winner-take-all Game 3 at the Clemson Super Regional that year but fell to the Tigers, 8-6, in what turned out to be the Tide's last Super Regional appearance until 2023. Gaspard joined Louisiana Tech in 2019. He assumed the role of hitting coach and recruiting coordinator that year and was named Associate Head Coach in 2021. Louisiana Tech made the NCAA Tournament three times between 2021-24 and hosted a regional in 2021. Alabama was one of three at-large teams to play in that year's Ruston Regional. Gaspard's record as Alabama head coach was 236-191. Fantastic hire by the Lions, not a better man anywhere than @ Athletics is better because of this home run hire. Exclusive: Open-source intelligence startup Tadaweb raises $20M
Tadaweb, an operating system that collects and analyzes public data, raised $20 million, led by Arsenal Growth and Forgepoint Capital, according to co-founder and CEO Francois Gaspard, who tells Axios Pro exclusively. Why it matters: Being able to analyze publicly available information is a must for organizations, but the sheer volume makes it challenging to do quickly and accurately. How it works: Tadaweb's "small data" operating system digests fewer but more precise open-source intelligence (OSINT) data points. This reduces analysis time down from days to minutes, allowing companies and governments to identify threats, business disruptions and other issues. The platform also offers full transparency to customers concerning what data was used and how. Zoom in: Existing investor Wendel participated in the round. By the numbers: The 120-person company, founded in 2011, increased revenue 30% last year, Gaspard said. The Luxembourg-based company has raised $40 million total. What they're saying:"Big data companies can bring in a billion data points, but you don't know where it all is coming from," Gaspard said. "We are about precision and transparency. Transparency is key."

Jockey arrested for using shocking device on racehorse
Delta Downs in Vinton. (Special to the American Press) A Vinton racehorse jockey has been arrested for using a battery-operated shocking device on his horse. Louisiana State Police Trooper Matt Gaspard said 41-year-old Ricardo Hernandez-Perez of Vinton was arrested Saturday after an investigation into allegations of cheating by horse jockeys at the Delta Downs Racetrack and Casino. Gaspard said after Saturday's races concluded, detectives conducted post-race checks of each jockey. During one encounter, Hernandez-Perez attempted to flee from detectives while discarding the shocking device into one of the horse stalls. Hernandez-Perez was subsequently arrested and processed into the Calcasieu Correctional Center for violation of LA RS 4:175D – unnatural stimulation of horses. 'The law prohibits anyone from possessing or using devices like electric batteries that can unnaturally stimulate, depress, or excite a racehorse before or during a race, including within racetrack stables, sheds, or other buildings on racetrack grounds where eligible horses are kept,' Gaspard said. Anyone wishing to report illegal gaming activity may anonymously report information through the Louisiana State Police online reporting system by visiting and clicking on Report Suspicious or Criminal Activity, or calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.
