La Mar unveils 1st major revamp in 17 years
La Mar Cocina Peruana, one of San Francisco's most loved Peruvian restaurants, unveiled a redesign and new menu — its first major revamp in nearly two decades. State of play: The redesign features new ocean-inspired decor like cyan ceramic tiles and indigo-dyed banquettes. There's also a new semi-private chef's table, with views of the kitchen and waterfront patio. Behind the scenes: Chef Gastón Acurio and executive chef Victoriano Lopez added new menu items inspired by Lopez's recent trip to Peru. They include: Cebiche Victoriano ($32), made with local halibut and sunchoke leche de tigre. La Grand Bandeja Cebichera ($129), a shareable platter of Peruvian classics with causa, cebiches and other seafood. Tiradito al Olivo ($34) with crispy octopus and purple potato sauce. Arroz con Cangrejo ($149), a four-person dish with arborio rice and Dungeness crab. If you go: Open daily at Pier 1 ½ on the Embarcadero. Hours vary.
