Haryana: Railway minister, Saini launch India's largest cargo hub in Manesar
Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday inaugurated the country's biggest Gati Shakti Multi-Modal cargo terminal in Manesar, Haryana. Developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the mega facility aims to boost multimodal connectivity and streamline freight movement across the country. Constructed at a cost of ₹117,091 million, the terminal is a joint initiative of the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HRIDC) which holds a 55.4% stake, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) with 19%, and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) with 5%. Lauding the rapid transformation of India's railway infrastructure under the current government, the Railway minister, on the occasion, said: 'In just 11 years, the annual railway budget has risen from ₹25,000 crore to ₹2.5 lakh crore. Haryana's allocation alone jumped from ₹315 crore before 2014 to over ₹3,400 crore,' he said. The central minister also announced that 100 new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains and 50 Namo Bharat passenger trains will be launched. He said, additionally, work is underway to upgrade 34 Amrit Bharat stations across Haryana. The construction of 540 railway overbridges and underpasses has also been completed in the state. Vaishnaw also confirmed full electrification of Haryana's rail lines, and revealed plans to modernise the railway factory in Sonipat. Stating that the 823 km of new tracks laid in Haryana surpass the rail network of the United Arab Emirates, he said that work is underway to develop 34 Amrit Bharat stations in the state. On the occasion, chief minister Saini described the terminal as a 'milestone in Haryana's development journey' and a critical step toward realising the Prime Minister's vision of a developed India. 'This isn't just steel and concrete. It is a symbol of our nation's progress,' he said. The terminal will connect vehicle consignments from Maruti's Manesar and Gurugram plants to 17 hubs across 380 Indian cities, as well as export destinations via ports like Pipavav and Mundra, said Saini. Stating that Haryana has emerged as the country's leading automobile manufacturing hub, producing nearly 50% of India's cars, he said: 'The internal railway siding built by HRIDC at Maruti is a testimony to our 'ease of doing business' commitment.' Later, the CM and the union minister together flagged off the first cargo train from the terminal. On the occasion, Maruti Suzuki India MD & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi expressed confidence that the terminal would reinforce India's position as a global manufacturing and export hub. 'The project underscores our strong commitment to India's Net Zero emissions target 2070. It will contribute to avoiding 175,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions, saving 60 million litres of fuel annually at full capacity, and reducing road congestion. Lowering carbon emissions remains a top priority at Maruti Suzuki. We aim to achieve this, by increasing the share of vehicle dispatches through railways to 35% by FY 2030-31,' he added.

ANI 18 Jun 2025, 00:24 GMT+10 Gurugram (Haryana) [India], June 17 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said Haryana has become one of India's leading automobile manufacturing hubs, producing nearly 50 per cent of all cars made in the country. 'The development of an internal railway yard by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation at Maruti underscores the state's commitment to 'Ease of Doing Business' and infrastructure development, CM Saini said. Reaffirming its vision to emerge as a logistics hub, the state has also partnered with various industry bodies and educational institutions to enhance workforce skills across Haryana, said CM Nayab Singh Saini. Located at the IMT Manesar-based Maruti Suzuki plant, this terminal has been developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gati Shakti National Master Plan, a visionary initiative aimed at creating a world-class logistics network across India. The total cost of this project is Rs 1 lakh 17 thousand 91 million. Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has a 55.4 per cent share, HSIIDC has a 19 per cent share and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has a 5 per cent share in the project. Models manufactured at MSIL's Gurugram and Manesar facilities will be dispatched to 17 hubs from this railway siding serving 380 cities across India. Port locations of Mundra and Pipavav, used by the Company for exports, will also be served. The railway siding will have a dispatch capability of 450,000 vehicles at full has dispatched 2.5 million (25 lakh) vehicles cumulatively through railways since FY 2014-15. Its green logistics efforts align with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 13 on climate action, reinforcing the Company's vision for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. (ANI)

Manesar Maruti plant gets a direct link to railway grid
Gurgaon: Cars manufactured at Maruti Suzuki 's main factory in Manesar can directly board railway carriages within the compound as they head to sellers in different parts of the country. The country's largest multi-modal cargo terminal, which is located inside the factory premises, was inaugurated on Tuesday by railways minister Ahswani Vaishnaw and chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. The terminal is part of the first phase of Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) project, which aims to streamline logistics in the state by connecting Palwal to Sonipat via Manesar and other industrial hubs. To be used exclusively by Maruti Suzuki, the terminal has a direct link with Northern Railway at Patli through a 6.9km track. From Patli, cargo rakes can go to Rewari and switch to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). The terminal can handle 4.5 lakh cars annually. The capacity, if utilised, will take both pollution and traffic pressure off NH-8 and other road links between north and west, two of the country's most industrialised belts. After flagging off the first train from the Manesar plant for Nagpur in Maharashtra with 276 cars, Vaishnaw said, "In Dec 2021, govt simplified the process to set up multi-modal cargo terminals, and today, there are 108 such terminals ready." Saini said vehicles manufactured at the Manesar plant could reach 380 cities and those meant for export can reach ports in Gujarat via DFC. "This will directly connect Haryana to the global supply chain," Saini said. Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said he was "very happy" that the country's largest automobile in-plant railway siding was inaugurated in Manesar. "The company's second railway siding facility signifies a landmark achievement in its green logistics journey. The project underscores our strong commitment to India's net-zero emissions target. It will contribute to avoiding 175,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, saving 60 million litres of fuel annually at full capacity, and reducing road congestion," Takeuchi said. He added that the automaker aims to transport 35% of its vehicles through railways by 2030-31. Maruti has dispatched 25 lakh vehicles by rail since 2014-15. But it started out by transporting cars to a railway station in trucks before loading them onto trains. The company, a few months ago, inaugurated its first railway siding facility at its Gujarat plant. Last year, Maruti started using the 'truck on train' facility from Rewari. For this too, cars were loaded into trucks, but the trucks were directly driven onto trains. Spread over 46 acres, the Manesar terminal has four tracks for rakes and one for engine escape, totaling 8.2km in length. Registered under PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, it was executed by Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation Ltd, a joint venture. Under this, Maruti is supposed to invest Rs 325 crore for the orbital corridor apart from Rs 127 crore for yard development in its Manesar plant.

India's largest automobile in-plant railway siding at Maruti Manesar facility starts operation
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): India's largest automobile in-plant railway siding at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar facility started operation on Tuesday, in the presence of Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The Manesar railway siding, registered under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, has been developed as part of the 126 Km Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) running from Sonipat to Palwal in the state of Haryana. The project has been executed by a joint venture company called Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation Ltd (HORCL). Under the joint venture, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has committed to invest Rs 325 crore in developing HORC. Additionally, MSIL has invested about Rs 127 crore towards internal yard development. Overall, MSIL's total investment is about Rs 452 crore. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, 'We are very happy that India's largest automobile in-plant railway siding is inaugurated today at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar facility.
