Gavin Duffy denies claim that he owns IPAS centre in Meath

In a video posted to X, Mr Duffy described the video as making 'totally erroneous, false and untrue statements'. Gavin Duffy, the former Dragon's Den star, has posted a video in response to the claim that he owns an International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centre in Meath. The 65-year-old has so far been unsuccessful in his petitioning of Facebook to remove a video which shows a man approach the centre, read a site notice posted at the entrance and approach a staff member all while claiming Duffy owns the centre. The site notice lists the Whearty Brothers as planning applicants. In a video posted to X, Mr Duffy described the video as making 'totally erroneous, false and untrue statements'. "I'm just back from a family holiday and towards the end of it kind and concerned neighbours and friends were contacting me about a post on Facebook,' he said. 'The type of public life I've been lucky enough to live, you do grow a thick skin. I am not frightened by false accusations of cowards who hide behind cameras and keyboards. But I also know if I don't get this taken down it festers. "So I need your help if you know the person who made and posted the original video, please advise them to delete it immediately.' Duffy has previously been the victim of false claims online. In 2020, an apparent click-bait scam announced his death across social media. Gavin Duffy News in 90 Seconds - Monday June 23 When clicked on, the links took users to a Bitcoin business, alleging that entrepreneur Mr Duffy had made money from it. This reportedly led to a number of people losing hundreds of euros. In 2021, a legal dispute between the Louth man and Facebook was resolved after he requested it desist from taking revenue from this advertising. In a joint statement after the resolution, Duffy and Facebook Ireland said they had 'resolved an issue regarding ads containing misleading and inaccurate statements about Mr Duffy, which were published on Facebook by malicious third parties'. In a video message at the time, Duffy said both parties had agreed to work together to address any further misleading and inaccurate advertisements relating to him, in the event they should reappear on the social media platform.

Live reaction: Leaving Cert business paper gets thumbs-up from teachers and students

Textbook author and former teacher Gavin Duffy says students continued to have great choice in the short questions section, being able to answer eight from 12. However, he says this section stood out as 'the most challenging part of the paper for students' given its focus on questions from units six and seven, which are areas many students may not have focused on too much in their revision. 'That said, the level of choice available still gave most students a solid chance to get off the mark well early on in their paper,' he says. READ MORE 'The ABQ had no real surprises for students and should have been approachable for them – the examiner looked for content that we've seen in recent years so a student well prepared would have been able to handle it well.' In part B, students were asked to evaluate areas where 'Inis Bia' lacked control – specifically credit, stock, quality, and financial control – which was a @fair ask for those familiar with the topic'. Duffy says the ABQ text provided good clear links to each area for students. 'The long questions were well-balanced and offered students a broad range of options,' he says. Overall, Duffy feels most students will have been very satisfied with the questions and the topics covered. 'The examiner tied in plenty of current issues, such as the benefits and challenges of high employment and barriers to free trade,' he says. 'Stimulus materials were accessible and relevant, including a hotel that hosts Debs events and Glanbia's acquisition of the whey protein brand Optimum Nutrition.' The application-based questions were also well-designed, he says, with students asked to apply the global marketing mix and complete a SWOT analysis for a product of their own choice. 'This gave them a strong opportunity to apply what they've learned using real business examples, and to demonstrate a solid understanding of the course content,' he says.

Louth County Council signs contract for construction works to begin on Drogheda Digital Hub

The signing commences construction works that will begin immediately on the project, with an aim to boost local enterprise and innovation in Drogheda. Doors are expected to open in late summer. The project will see the complete refurbishment and fit-out of a formerly derelict building into a modern, co-working and innovation space. The refurbishment is funded through Enterprise Ireland's Border Enterprise Development Fund, which is funded under the EU's Brexit Adjustment Reserve (BAR), with co-funding from Louth County Council. The Drogheda Digital Hub is designed to support start-ups, remote workers, and scaling tech enterprises by offering affordable co-working space, business support services, training and tailored mentoring programmes. It is expected to house over 20 co-working desks, meeting rooms, private booths, and breakout areas – providing a modern, professional environment for the region's next generation of entrepreneurs. Chief executive of Louth County Council, David Conway said: 'The Drogheda Digital Hub will support the creation of a vibrant cluster of digital start-ups, right in the heart of the town, and is a beacon for urban renewal on West Street in Drogheda. 'It reinforces that the future development of the town is positive and is further evidence that Louth County Council and our partners and stakeholders are committed to delivering projects that will improve quality of life.' With a 13.2% population increase and more than 7,000 new homes planned for the area, the organisers said that the timing of the initiative is 'critical' to support local entrepreneurship. The signing was attended by senior representatives from Louth County Council, Enterprise Ireland, Drogheda and District Chamber of Commerce, local dignitaries and the appointed contractor, Gavin Duffy, along with the director from Doohamlet Construction. Cllr Kevin Callan, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, said: 'Transforming a once-derelict building into a state-of-the-art Digital Hub is a signal that Drogheda is open for innovation, investment, and fresh ideas. 'As well as providing much-needed incubation space for budding entrepreneurs, the Drogheda Digital Hub will draw footfall back to West Street, boosting local businesses, and positioning the town as one of the North-East's leading locations for digital enterprise.'

First trophies of the GAA season in Sligo to be awarded this weekend

The Spring Leagues were introduced three years ago as the seasonal warm up competition for club sides and to provide more football; for club footballers generally. The competitions have proven to be particularly valuable this year to enable club players to become familiar with the new rules in Gaelic Football. In the Senior final, which will be played at Corran Park, Ballymote on Friday evening – 7.30 throw in, Enniscrone Kilglass, who are back in Division One of the Senior League after a long absence have come through to face Eastern Harps who made the step up to Division One in the previous year. Both clubs are now reaping the rewards of a very healthy commitment to their underage sides over the past decade so a lively and skilful contest can be expected, Both in particular have young and dynamic forward lines with two of Sligo's top sharp shooters in opposition - Caelan Hunt for the Harps and Gavin Duffy for the men from the west county. Duffy will be well supported by his brother Brian and the wily Brian Coleman in the full forward line while Dermot Mullaney is a reliable midfield provider, The Keash Gurteen side will be looking to Shane O'Grady, Sean Bruen and ace goal getter Ciaran Dorrian to support Hunt with Michael Clarke anchoring the midfield. In the Junior final on Saturday, St Farnan's and Shamrock Gaels will come together at 7.30 at the Centre of Excellence in Scarden. The Farnan's have been struck by injury and retirements and find themselves back in Division Three having been in Division One as recently as 2023 so there will be keen to put something on the mantlepiece to create momentum for the season ahead. They come into Saturday's game on the back of a big win in their last regular league game at Eastern Harps. This is a good Shamrock Geals side however that in addition to this final are also now joint top of the Division Three league table and with a good mix of experienced players which was competing in the Intermediate championship in recent years. Two good games are promised. Admission will be by ticket, available online at Admission-Adults €10, Children U16 Free
