CPA cracks down on unsafe herbal and cosmetic products
Muscat: Authorities in North al Batinah have seized 180 unsafe herbal and cosmetic products during a joint inspection campaign aimed at ensuring consumer safety and market compliance. The operation, led by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North al Batinah in collaboration with the General Directorate of Health Services, targeted herbal product and cosmetic stores in the Wilayat of al Suwaiq. The campaign focused on enforcing consumer protection regulations, particularly Decision No. (254/2015), which governs the trade of herbal products in the Sultanate of Oman. Officials confirmed that the seized items failed to meet health and safety standards, which, therefore, pose potential risks to consumers. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to ensure commercial establishments comply with the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations. The initiative also seeks to curb malpractices, ensure goods are stored under proper health conditions, and raise public awareness about consumer rights. Authorities emphasised the importance of transparency and fairness in commercial transactions, encouraging consumers to be vigilant when purchasing herbal and cosmetic products. Such joint campaigns are a key strategy in monitoring compliance, preventing commercial fraud, and safeguarding consumer interests. The CPA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying inspections and taking legal action against any violations that threaten public health and safety.
