11 Seattle-Area Restaurants That Sadly Said Goodbye This Month

This is a curated list of Seattle's most notable and permanent restaurant and bar closures. See a closing we missed? Then drop us a line . CAPITOL HILL — The Red Hook Brewlab, a space where the long-running beer brand could show off its suds, will close, reports Puget Sound Business Journal . Opened in 2017, the Brew Lab is the only location remaining in Seattle for one of the city's first craft brewers. Red Hook has been around since the '80s, though in recent years has it changed owners through a series of mergers and sales. The current owner, Tilray Brands, didn't provide the Journal with a closure date. GEORGETOWN — The original trailer location of the Lowrider Cookie Company is closing, the local chain announced in a newsletter. It's a bittersweet closure for the brand, which has three other locations and another on the way in north Seattle. 'We have outgrown' the trailer, it wrote, 'and we want another small business to have the opportunity to grow and thrive.' OTHELLO — Taco Street has closed, with the owners converting the space into a commissary kitchen. The owners wrote that 'challenges with parking, staff safety, and rising costs have made it unsustainable to keep operating as a quick-service restaurant.' They still run a Taco Street in the Pierce County town of Ruston and plan to open another restaurant in Tacoma soon; the Seattle space will be available for private events and catering. CAPITOL HILL — Famed restaurant group Sea Creatures has closed its critically acclaimed steakhouse Bateau and its attached Boat Bar — but only temporarily, as the company 'reimagines' the space. The Capitol Hill location of Sea Creatures' doughnut shop General Porpoise is closing permanently as part of this shift. Workers at the restaurant had recently unionized, along with those at General Porpoise and oyster bar the Walrus and the Carpenter. LAURELHURST — The General Porpoise next to University Village has closed as well. CHINATOWN–INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT — The Seattle Times reports that the Seattle location of ramen chain Momosan has permanently closed. DENNY TRIANGLE — More from the Times: The Denny Triangle location of Rachel's Ginger Beer has closed, but the famed beverage purveyor still has three Seattle stores. KIRKLAND — A couple more closures also reported first by the Times : Well-known area chef MyLinh Tran is retiring after 25 years, meaning her French-Asian spot Lynn's Bistro has closed. REDMOND — The last closure from the Times is Blu Sardinia, an Italian restaurant in the Bella Bottega Shopping Center with a striking dining room. The restaurant is reportedly closing because its lease ran out. CAPITOL HILL — Seattle Met has details on a slightly confusing closure situation: The Tin Table, a restaurant that was opened to support the Century Ballroom but outlived it by a couple months, has now itself closed. But the Met reports an employee has bought the space and will be reopening as something new. (The Century Ballroom itself has been replaced seamlessly by Reverie Ballroom.) KIRKLAND — Hanoon, the Eastside outpost of Middle Eastern restaurant group Nadi Mama, closed in May, the company said. It continues to operate Mamnoon and Mbar. Acclaimed Steakhouse Bateau Is Closing for a ‘Planned Reimagining'

The acclaimed Sea Creatures restaurant group is navigating some choppy waters. On Thursday, June 5, the group, co-owned by famed chef Renee Erickson, announced in a press release that starting June 19, it will be temporarily shuttering the connected restaurants Boat Bar and Bateau as 'the company begins a planned reimagining of both restaurants.' The Capitol Hill location of its doughnut shop chain General Porpoise — which shares the space with those two restaurants — will close permanently, as will the Laurelhurst General Porpoise. The closure of Bateau and Boat Bar is expected to last three to six months, Sea Creatures said. 'We're incredibly proud of what Bateau and Boat Bar have brought to Seattle's dining scene,' Erickson said in the press release. 'This closure will allow us the time and space to refresh and retool these restaurants after a long 10 years, so they can evolve and continue to inspire.' Erickson is more associated with seafood than steak — her Walrus and the Carpenter is one of Seattle's most famous oyster bars — but Bateau has been a critical darling, attracting a lot of attention (and even a New York Times profile) for its use of unusual cuts of meat. In 2017, Eater national critic Bill Addison named it one of the 38 best restaurants in America. Even a temporary closure is a surprise. Co-owner Jeremy Price said in an email that part of the reason for the closure was that chef de cuisine Taylor Thornhill and general manager Jamie Irene happened to give notice at around the same time. 'After a decade of working together and becoming friends, we are happy for these folks, wish them the best of luck in their new roles, and can't wait to visit them in their new restaurant homes,' Price said. The release added that their departure created a 'natural transition point' for some 'long-considered changes.' Those changes will include the closure of the Capitol Hill General Porpoise, which was the company's first doughnut shop. 'We'll do our best to find positions to displaced General Porpoise Capitol Hill staff at our remaining cafés in the Amazon Spheres and Pioneer Square,' the press release said. The Laurelhurst cafe, near University Village, is being replaced by another tenant, and Sea Creatures said that all staff members there have positions at the other General Porpoises.
