Russia, Ukraine unleash massive overnight strikes

Shafaq News – Moscow/Kyiv Russia and Ukraine launched sweeping aerial and artillery assaults overnight, with Moscow intercepting 74 drones and Kyiv logging 90 airstrikes and nearly 6,000 incoming shells. In a statement on Tuesday, Russia's Defense Ministry reported downing 43 drones over Bryansk, 22 over Rostov, six over Kaluga, two over Smolensk, and one over Leningrad. Meanwhile, Ukraine's General Staff tracked 149 guided bombs, 5,922 artillery shells—61 from multiple rocket launchers—and 3,859 kamikaze drones deployed across its territory. Russian strikes hit targets in Dnipropetrovsk (Ternove), Donetsk (Konstantinivka, Ivanopillya, Markove, Svitle), and several towns across Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. Ukrainian forces responded by knocking out four Russian tanks, 39 artillery systems, a rocket launcher, an air defense unit, 192 drones, two cruise missiles, and 91 military vehicles. The surge in hostilities coincided with remarks from Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, who criticized US President Donald Trump for his threat to shorten the deadline he had given Russia to reach a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine.

FM, Military Leaders Meet Crew of "ETERNITY C" ship

Sana'a - Saba: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Amer, along with Deputy Chief of the General Staff Major General Ali Al-Moshki, Commander of the Naval and Coastal Defense Forces Major General Mohammed Fadhl, Commander of the Coastal Defense Forces Major General Mohammed Al-Qadiri, and Member of the Political Bureau of Ansar Allah Dhaifallah Al-Shami, today met with the crew of the "Eternity C" ship who were rescued from drowning in the Red Sea. During the meeting, Minister Amer and the military leaders reassured the ship's crew that they are safe, affirming the keenness to take care of them as guests of Yemen, considering that they were exploited to carry out this mission. The Minister of Foreign Affairs said: "The directives of the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, stipulate that all people should be viewed as human beings without discrimination, especially in humanitarian aspects." He added: "We have been continuously following the crew's condition since they were rescued in the Red Sea after the ship, which violated laws affecting our security in Yemen, was targeted, to ensure your safety and proper medical treatment. This, of course, is in line with our leadership's emphasis on preserving human dignity regardless of religion, ideology, or nationality." The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates pointed out that the ship's crew contacted their families to reassure them, explaining that the crew is a victim just like the Palestinian people in Gaza, who have become victims of global arrogance, American hegemony, and Zionist expansionist ambitions. He touched on what is happening in Gaza in terms of killing, whether by military force, starvation, preventing the entry of food, or depriving people of medicine. He said: "Perhaps you have seen the suffering of the Palestinian people and sensed it during the hours of your own suffering before and during your rescue from the sea." He added: "Therefore, you may now sense how Islam views human beings and how the Zionists view them—there is a great difference, as you have experienced the level of treatment and cooperation from the Yemeni Armed Forces, even though they themselves are suffering and are always being targeted by Zionism. Yet in the end, they made a real distinction between how to deal with human beings and an enemy we confront face to face." Minister Amer noted that the ship's crew had never heard of high-ranking military leaders such as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff and the Commander of the Air Forces being present with the crew to provide care for them, and that this has not been witnessed before. This reflects the true Yemeni approach toward the entire world. He addressed the ship's crew, saying: "Rest assured that our care for you will continue, and we understand the ordeal you went through as a result of being exploited and the suffering you experienced during the targeting of the ship by the Yemeni Armed Forces." During the meeting, explanations were heard from a number of crew members of the ship, which violated the decision prohibiting dealings with occupied ports, and their motives for risking this journey to the port of 'Eilat' and not responding to the warnings of the Yemeni Naval Forces, in addition to the suffering of the crew until they were rescued and evacuated from the ship. The ship's crew expressed their gratitude for the level of care and attention they received since their rescue, as well as for being given the opportunity to contact their families and reassure them of their condition. Russian attack on Kyiv injures eight as drone barrage continues

A Russian air strike on Kyiv overnight on Monday injured at least eight people, including a child, the head of the Ukrainian capital's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said on Telegram. He added that the strike damaged a residential building and several cars in the Darnytskyi District, but that no fires broke out. "The blast wave shattered the windows of a high-rise building from the fifth to the 10th floor, as a result of which five people suffered shrapnel wounds," he said. A wave of drones also targeted the city of Kropyvnytskyi in central Ukraine, damaging a philharmonic hall. No injuries or fatalities were reported. Russia also claimed on Sunday to have targeted Ukrainian supply depots. Russian Ministry of Defence claimed its forces destroyed seven electronic warfare stations, 16 ammunition depots, two material warehouses and seven supply depots. Russian air defence systems intercepted and shot down 72 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and the Sea of Azov from early morning until evening on Sunday, the ministry said. These claims could not be independently verified. Meanwhile, Ukraine said that its troops struck a Russian ammunition storage site on its territory. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that 153 combat engagements had occurred along the front lines in the past 24 hours, with Ukrainian troops repelling Russian attacks from multiple directions. Ukraine's Air Force reported that since Saturday evening, Russia launched 83 drones of various types, of which Ukrainian air defences shot down 78. The attacks come as US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met at a golf course in Scotland to discuss various global issues, including Russia's ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to Starmer's office, efforts to promote a possible peace deal to end the fighting and force Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table in the next 50 days are on the agenda.

Russia, Ukraine trade overnight airstrikes

Shafaq News – Kyiv/Moscow Russia and Ukraine launched large-scale aerial attacks overnight, with Kyiv reporting the interception of more than 300 threats and Moscow announcing it had downed seven Ukrainian drones across multiple regions. According to Ukraine's General Staff on Monday, Russian forces fired over 330 aerial weapons—including Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles—mostly aimed at Khmelnytskyi, with Ukrainian defenses intercepting 309 drones and two Kh-101 missiles, while three Kinzhal ballistic missiles missed their targets. The barrage reportedly began at 7:30 p.m. on July 27 and stretched into the early hours of July 28, originating from Russian regions such as Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Lipetsk, and Saratov, with Starokostiantyniv and its key airbase appearing to be the main target. Ukraine responded with fighter jets, surface-to-air systems, electronic warfare units, and mobile teams to repel the assault. Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry reported that it shot down seven Ukrainian fixed-wing drones—four over Rostov, and one each in Oryol, Kaluga, and Bryansk. The strikes came shortly after a third round of direct talks in Istanbul, where both sides agreed to exchange 1,200 prisoners each, including both civilians and military personnel.

Kuwait explores use of Bayraktar TB2 drones for environmental monitoring

Newly-acquired drones to support surveillance of borders, critical infrastructure KUWAIT: Kuwait is moving to integrate its newly acquired Bayraktar TB2 drones into environmental surveillance and civilian operations, according to a statement by the General Staff of the Army following a high-level coordination meeting held Sunday. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lt Gen Sabah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, gathered senior military officials and representatives from the Ministry of Public Works, Kuwait Municipality, and the Environment Public Authority, alongside other civil and security agencies. Discussions focused on how to organize reconnaissance flights and enhance the use of drone-generated data across state institutions, 'in support of observation and follow-up efforts' and to 'enhance the state's capabilities in addressing security and environmental changes,' the statement said. The meeting also reviewed the technical systems onboard the Bayraktar drone and explored its applications in defense, environmental monitoring, and the protection of vital infrastructure and borders. Lt Gen Al-Sabah emphasized the importance of using the drone beyond military settings. 'The utilization of the Bayraktar drone's capabilities is not limited to the military side only but extends to include many civilian sectors of the state,' he said. He called for greater coordination between military and civilian entities to maximize the benefits of this advanced aerial system. He described the drone as 'a qualitative leap in capabilities for monitoring, environmental surveillance, and the protection of facilities and borders,' and underscored the responsibility to invest and deploy the system effectively. The Bayraktar TB2 is capable of flying non-stop for 24 hours, carrying up to 650 kilograms. In 2019, it completed a test flight in Kuwait that lasted 27 hours and 3 minutes, despite high temperatures, strong winds, and sandstorms. The coordination meeting follows the arrival of Kuwait's first Bayraktar drones earlier this month, after a $367 million purchase agreement was signed with Turkish defense company Baykar in January 2023. Kuwait became the 28th country to acquire the TB2, a drone that has been used in conflict zones including Ukraine, Libya, and Azerbaijan. Kuwait has also been training personnel for drone operations, with the first batch of TB2 operators graduating in Turkey in July 2024, and a second group earlier this year. While Kuwait's discussions mark an early step in integrating drones into environmental oversight, drones have increasingly been used for that purpose in recent years. In Pakistan's Punjab province, officials launched a drone-linked environmental monitoring system in September 2024 to track factory emissions and enforce environmental laws. In the Arctic, high-speed drones were tested earlier this year to assess the rate of glacier retreat in Greenland. Research also points to the use of drones at landfills to detect methane emissions with high spatial and temporal precision, offering a low-cost alternative to traditional monitoring methods. — Agencies
