Who is Shama Parveen Ansari, the Bengaluru woman linked to Al-Qaeda propaganda?
Shama Parveen Ansari, originally from Jharkhand and currently residing in RT Nagar, Bengaluru, has emerged as a key figure in an ongoing investigation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) into online radicalisation and the spread of extremist propaganda. Shama Parveen Ansari, accused of promoting the anti-national propaganda of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), after her arrest by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Bengaluru.(PTI) She was arrested on Tuesday from her residence for allegedly promoting the anti-national ideology of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a banned terrorist organisation. She was brought to Gujarat on Wednesday under transit remand. According to officials, Ansari was using digital platforms to circulate content that called for an 'armed revolution or jihad' against the Government of India. Her activities, authorities claim, were not limited to ideological endorsement, she was actively using social media to spread inflammatory messages designed to create religious discord and incite violence. An official release from the ATS stated that Ansari managed two Facebook pages and one Instagram account, collectively followed by over 10,000 users. Through these platforms, she is alleged to have shared content linked to AQIS and other radical preachers, news agency PTI reported. The material promoted themes such as Ghazwa-e-Hind, called for attacks on 'non-believers' or kafirs, and advocated for the overthrow of the Indian government. Investigators also found that Ansari had maintained contact with Pakistani entities via phone and email. Her role in the dissemination of extremist material came to light during a separate ATS operation earlier in July. On July 23, Gujarat ATS had arrested four men from Delhi, Noida, Ahmedabad, and Modasa for allegedly sharing radical and jihadi propaganda videos from AQIS on their social media accounts. The ATS said these videos aimed to incite Indian Muslim youth to reject the country's democratic system and instead impose sharia (Islamic law) through armed rebellion. Among the four arrested was Mohammad Faiq, a resident of Delhi, who had shared provocative videos calling for jihad and terror attacks in India. It was later revealed that Faiq had sourced this content from three social media accounts, two Facebook pages and one Instagram handle, which, according to investigators, were operated by Shama Parveen Ansari. Following this discovery, a Gujarat ATS team, with the support of central agencies and state police, moved to apprehend Ansari in Bengaluru. The ATS is now investigating the extent of Ansari's influence, her network of contacts, and the impact of her digital outreach. Bengaluru woman arrested by Gujarat ATS in crackdown on ‘Al Qaeda module'
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a fifth person allegedly linked to an Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) module. The accused, 30-year-old Shama Parveen, a native of Jharkhand who had been living in Bengaluru for the past five years, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly disseminating extremist content through social media platforms. Parveen's arrest follows the July 22 arrests of four others — Mohd Fardeen from Ahmedabad, Mohd Faiq from Delhi, Zeeshan Ali from Noida, and Sefullah Kureshi from Modasa in Gujarat's Aravalli district. These four were booked under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly promoting radical content linked to AQIS via Instagram and Facebook. A Gujarat ATS team led by DySP Virjeetsinh Parmar, with assistance from central agencies and Bengaluru city police, located and arrested Parveen on July 29. She was produced before the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court in Bengaluru, where Judge Vishwanath granted Gujarat Police a transit warrant. According to Gujarat ATS, a preliminary examination of Parveen's mobile phone revealed she was allegedly operating flagged Instagram and Facebook accounts from the investigations into the earlier accused, and had uploaded speeches of AQIS leaders like Maulana Asim Umar and Anwar al-Awlaki that promoted violent jihad and Ghazwa-e-Hind. She had also allegedly shared videos of Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lahore's Lal Masjid, which officials claim called for an armed struggle to overthrow the Indian government and foment communal discord. Officials further alleged that Parveen was also in contact with individuals linked to the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) through social media and that her online activity aimed to radicalise individuals and gain support for extremist movements. Following her arrest, Parveen was brought to Ahmedabad on a transit remand for further legal proceedings. Officials said that a more detailed examination of her phone revealed additional alleged social media handles, email accounts, and suspected links with foreign and Pakistani-based entities. Intelligence and police teams in Karnataka are now probing her local associations and any wider network she may have had. According to Gujarat ATS officials, investigations into the online activities of the earlier accused led them to an Instagram account allegedly operated by Mohd Faiq — 'sharyat_ya_shahadat' — which had reposted provocative content from accounts titled 'strangers_nation02', 'Strangers Of The Nation' and 'Strangers Of The Nation 2'. Further digital forensics had allegedly pointed investigators to Parveen. According to officials, Parveen was staying with her brother, who works for a private firm.

Bengaluru woman arrested by Gujarat ATS for alleged Al-Qaeda links, online extremist activites
In a shocking development, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a woman based in Bengaluru on suspicions of collaborating with the banned militant group Al-Qaeda. Officials asserted that Parveen played a role in activities considered a threat to national security and used social media — particularly Instagram — to spread extremist viewpoints. Operating out of Bengaluru, Parveen has been accused of joining several militant-focused Instagram channels, posting incendiary material to influence and draw young people toward extremist causes. She is believed to have circulated messages and videos endorsing 'Ghazwa-e-Hind,' a campaign advocated by some radical groups calling for a religious war in the region. The ATS claimed to have confiscated substantial digital proof from her electronic equipment, which they contend supports her involvement in the alleged propaganda network. Upon scrutinizing several Instagram accounts distributing radical messaging, the ATS uncovered that all five suspicious profiles were linked to Parveen. Utilizing digital forensics and advanced investigative methods, agents pinpointed her location and ultimately detained her in Bengaluru. Originally hailing from Jharkhand, Parveen had lived in the Manoramapalya area of Bengaluru for the last five years. Acting on intelligence inputs, ATS operatives raided her residence and placed her under arrest on Tuesday morning. Her detention also relates to a case tied to the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in Jharkhand. Soon after being apprehended, Parveen was presented before the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Bengaluru, Judge Vishwanath, who authorized the Gujarat Police to transfer her for further investigation. The ATS has since intensified efforts to unravel whether Parveen operated by herself or as part of a more extensive extremist network in southern India, with ongoing interrogations and technical checks attempting to map out her connections and activities in greater detail. Further investigation is underway and more details are expected shortly. (Reporting by Coovercolly Indresh)
