Special 500,000 yen lottery ticket on sale for Gifu fireworks
GIFU--A lottery ticket that costs 500,000 yen ($3,450) will allow up to 20 people to view a fireworks display from the tower of Gifu Castle in August.
Applications will be accepted through May 18 at the dedicated Ticket Pia website ( via the festival website (
The winner will be notified on May 21.
The lottery ticket for the 3rd Gifu Nagaragawa Hanabi festival is being offered for the first time. The event will be held Aug. 9 along the banks of the Nagaragawa river in Gifu. Gifu Castle is located on Mount Kinkazan overlooking the river.
The plan was announced April 24 by the fireworks festival organizer, which includes the Gifu city government and the Gifu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
On the day of the event, the castle keep will be reserved after closing time, and the participants will be able to enjoy the nighttime display in a relaxed atmosphere from the top of the mountain, away from the hustle and bustle of the riverside.
Special permission will also be given for the guests to enjoy a light meal and beverages.
The price includes tax and a round trip on the ropeway connecting the stations at the foot and summit of 329-meter Mount Kinkazan.
'We hope that the guests will be intoxicated by the spectacular view unique to Gifu city,' said Gifu Mayor Masanao Shibahashi.
In addition, reclining seats, box seats and unreserved seats on the riverbed will be sold via the festival website.
