She revealed that she only maintains her self-care for herself and gave an insight into her fitness regime and her top tips for maintaining a glowing complexion. 'It's very nice if people say lovely comments about how I look, but I don't do it for anyone other than myself,' she told the publication. 'Self-care helps me feel good about myself. I am getting older, and I do notice changes, but for me, I just want to maintain my appearance for as long as can. 'And if it all falls flat very soon, there's not much I could do about it.' The EastEnders star, 69, posed up a storm in an array of sophisticated outfits and discussed her skincare and beauty regime while appearing as Prima's cover star Gillian, who is best-known for playing Kathy Beale on the BBC soap, revealed she is 'meticulous' with her skincare and keeps fit in her home gym. Though her busy schedule means she can't always keep to her regime, Gillian has even gone to the length of getting a treadmill in her dressing room to keep active. 'I always fill my water bottle with different fruits. Every morning, I have hot water and lemon and a detox tea bag,' she revealed. 'I'm disciplined with what I eat, but I don't deny myself and I'm meticulous with my skincare. I also love keeping fit. 'I have a gym at home, but my schedule sometimes means I'm up at 5am, so I can't always make it work. 'But I feel very lethargic if I don't do anything, so I have weights and a treadmill in my dressing room, so I can do a quick workout.' In 2015, Gillian opted for a 'non-surgical face lift' ahead of her 60th birthday and was treated by Dr Aamer Khan at the Harley Street Skin Clinic. She opted for procedure which uses dissolvable polylactic acid thread to remove wrinkles, which costs around £2,000 and takes about half an hour. The thread is used to give a tailor-made result, lifting specific parts of the face. In the interview, the actress described EastEnders as her 'favourite' place to work and said she was thrilled when she made her bombshell return in 2015 despite being presumed dead. 'EastEnders has always been in my heart, because that's where I feel I became who I am. This wonderful character, Kathy, was always a big part of me,' she gushed. Gillian said she has very strong relationships with the cast and sweetly revealed her on-screen son Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) even calls her 'mum' off-screen. We've got a close bond – he can see if I've forgotten my lines, and he'll say them to remind me,' she said. 'The moment we reunited when Kathy came back, there were tears everywhere–it was a magical moment.' Gillian's character Kathy is one of the soap's longest-running characters, having graced the screen since the very first episode in 1985. She was first written out in 1998 when Gillian decided to quit, but made several short-lived returns until Kathy was eventually killed off in a car crash abroad in 2006. However, she was invited back for the 30th anniversary episodes in a shock return as it emerged she had faked her own death in a major plot twist. Gillian has remained a staple of the BBC soap opera ever since and still features as the formidable Kathy four decades after first joining the show. The August 2025 issue of Prima is now on sale.

Gillian Taylforth says EastEnders made her who she is today
EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth has said the soap is always in her heart because it made her who she is today. Taylforth, 69, is best known for playing cafe owner Kathy in the BBC soap and first appeared in its debut episode in February 1985. Advertisement The character was killed off in 2006 only to make a shock return – after faking her own death – for the 30th anniversary live episodes in 2015. Gillian Taylforth on the cover of the August issue of Prima (Prima UK/Nicky Johnston/PA) Fronting the August edition of Prima, the actress told the magazine: 'EastEnders has always been my favourite place to work. 'I loved The Bill, Footballers' Wives and Hollyoaks. I got to do plays and a musical and other things that were lovely. But EastEnders has always been in my heart, because that's where I feel I became who I am. 'This wonderful character, Kathy, was always a big part of me. So when I was invited back for the 30th anniversary I was overjoyed to have Kathy back in my life.' Advertisement The character was most recently revealed as the assailant who attacked her former daughter-in-law Cindy Beale, played by Michelle Collins, on Christmas Day. The festive episode ended with Cindy being struck with a shovel as she was walking through Walford after her affair with Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) had been revealed at a party in the Queen Vic. Gillian Taylforth in the August 2025 issue of Prima (Prima UK/Nicky Johnston/PA) Cindy had been hoping to return to France with her former husband and her son Ian, played by Adam Woodyatt, before the affair was exposed. Before the 40th anniversary episode, Cindy went to Ian's home with a gun believing him to be the assailant, but he insisted it was not him and turned the blame on his son Peter (Thomas Law). Advertisement Kathy then arrived at the house and told her to leave Ian alone, before confessing to the attack. Speaking about the cast and crew, Taylforth added: 'I have amazing relationships with everyone at EastEnders, but there's something special with Adam (Woodyatt). He's played my son for 40 years, and he never calls me by my name, it's always 'Mum', even when we're not on set, and he's 'Son' to me. Gillian Taylforth with Adam Woodyatt at the Inside Soap Awards 2017 (Isabel Infantes/PA) 'We've got a close bond – he can see if I've forgotten my lines, and he'll say them to remind me. The moment we reunited when Kathy came back, there were tears everywhere – it was a magical moment.' Taylforth also spoke about her self-care routine, saying it makes her 'feel good' about herself. Advertisement She said: 'It's very nice if people say lovely comments about how I look, but I don't do it for anyone other than myself. Self-care helps me feel good about myself. 'I am getting older, and I do notice changes, but for me, I just want to maintain my appearance for as long as can. And if it all falls flat very soon, there's not much I could do about it.' The full interview is in the August issue of Prima which is now on sale.

Anita Dobson admits major EastEnders return took lots of persuasion and why she agreed to come back
ANITA Dobson has opened up on her shock EastEnders comeback for this year's 40th anniversary celebrations. The legendary actress left fans gasping and open-mouthed when she made an unannounced return to the programme as Angie Watts in February of this year. 5 5 As Sharon was left almost crushed in the horror Queen Vic explosion, she had a vision from mum Angie who appeared in a dream sequence to speak once more to her precious little girl. Now, in an interview at the British Soap Awards, Anita has admitted that her grand soap return did take some persuasion as she wanted to ensure the scripts were top-notch before agreeing her comeback. Chatting to The Sun alongside co-star Gillian Taylforth, who plays Kathy Beale, Anita admitted: "It took a lot of talking because I wanted it to be right and I didn't want to do it if it wasn't going to actually work. "So we did have a bit of chatting over the script and it just felt like the right time." She also confirmed she would not be back for any future cameos as she revealed she viewed her one-off return as a final outing for Angie. Anita said: "It was a nice way to say goodbye to Angie for me. Her return as Angie was kept such a closely-guarded secret that even most of her co-stars were unaware it was happening until it aired on-screen in all its glory. Co-star Gillian added to The Sun on the red carpet: "We knew nothing about the scene that she did with Tish [Dean, Sharon Watts]. "When we watched it, we all went, 'Wow, this is what the 40 th is all about! This icon coming back to our show!' "Absolutely amazing, and I truly mean that." Patsy Kensit breaks silence on EastEnders role and begs for a soap return after confessing it was her 'dream job' Anita's comeback proved all the worthwhile after it managed to bag the Soap Award for Scene Of The Year. It was one of a whopping eight awards that EastEnders managed to pick up on the night amid their current soap dominance. ITV's offerings Emmerdale and Coronation Street suffered badly, with the Dales-based soap taking home just two awards, with Corrie only being awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award prize.
