Raipur: A Maoist involved in the June 9 blast incident that killed Konta additional SP Akash Rao Girepunje, was arrested in Sukma district of Bastar division on Tuesday. Chhattisgarh home department on June 13, had directed the State Investigation Agency (SIA) to investigate the tragic death of ASP Girepunje, who was killed in an IED blast on June 9 in Konta region of Bastar's Sukma district. Director general of police (DGP) Arun Dev Gautam and SIA director Ankit Garg are monitoring the investigations. The accused was identified during the investigation by the SIA. Information about other Maoists involved in the incident was also gathered. The accused, named Sodhi Ganga, has confessed his involvement and the details of his statement are awaited. After interrogation, the SIA presented him in court, from where he was sent to jail. The SIA team is led by superintendent of police (SP) Neeraj Chandrakar, and consists of six police personnel, including SP, ASP, TI, and SI rank officers. Officials said that the SIA team departed for Sukma within the next two days of order and gathered evidence from the blast site and soon identified those responsible for planting the IED. SIA, established by the Vishnu Deo Sai-led government in Chhattisgarh a year ago, is tasked with investigating Maoist activities, religious conversions, and cattle smuggling. RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh government has transferred eight young IPS officers to the Bastar region to strengthen anti-Maoist operations following the death of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Girepunje in an IED blast in Sukma district on Monday. Girepunje, a 2013-batch officer of the state police service, was leading a patrol on the Konta-Errabore route when he accidentally stepped on a pressure IED planted by Maoists. The explosion, which came during a 'Bharat Bandh' called by the banned CPI (Maoist), killed the officer and injured two others. In response, the state home department on Tuesday issued fresh orders posting eight IPS officers of the 2021 batch to districts in Bastar. These officers were earlier serving as city superintendents of police in various parts of the state. They have now been appointed as additional superintendents of police (anti-Naxal operations) in Sukma, Dantewada, Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, and Durg districts.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday paid tribute to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Girepunje, who was killed in an IED blast in Sukma district. The emotional wreath-laying ceremony was held at the 4th Battalion of Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) in Mana area, where officials and hundreds of citizens gathered to pay their respects. CM Sai, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao, state assembly speaker Raman Singh, and various ministers, participated in the ceremony. CM expressed his certainty that Naxalism, which claimed the officer's life, is on its last legs and will soon be eradicated. Girepunje, 42, was killed and two officers injured when an IED planted by Naxalites exploded in Konta, Sukma. The officer's family, including his wife, parents, and two minor children, were present. His 7-year-old son bowed to the mortal remains with folded hands, and a relative carried his 6-year-old daughter in his arms. He recalled that Girepunje had vowed to stay in Sukma until the Naxal threat in the region was completely eliminated. Vow to Eradicate Naxalism Bastar IG P Sundarraj visited the blast site on Tuesday and pledged that the police forces are fully prepared to deal with the Naxal threat. The IG said that the police would not rest until Naxalism is completely removed from Bastar. "The sacrifice of Akash Rao and other martyrs will not go in vain. Their legacy will continue to inspire our mission for peace, prosperity, and progress," he said. Final Farewell to the Martyr Akash Rao Girepunje, originally from Raipur, had served as ASP of Konta for over a year and had previously been honoured with a gallantry medal for his dedication to the fight against Naxalism. His family was preparing to celebrate his daughter's birthday, which falls on Wednesday, but the tragic loss has shattered those plans. The ceremony was marked by emotional scenes, as the community and officials from across the state paid their respects to a fallen hero committed to safeguarding the people of Bastar. In a show of solidarity, locals in Konta region have expressed anguish over IED blasts and residents have called for Dornapal 'bandh' on Wednesday. Traders and businessmen on Tuesday plan to carry out candle march late Tuesday and a tribute ceremony was also held.

RAIPUR The mortal remains of Chhattisgarh Police's Additional Superintendent Akash Rao Girepunje were consigned to flames in Raipur on Tuesday, a day after the senior police officer was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Sukma. Family members and friends, who had gathered to bid adieu to Girepunje at the Mahadev Ghat Muktidham here, described him as a brave officer who would be remembered for his valour. The slain police officer's younger brother Adrash along with the former's seven-year-old son lit the funeral pyre. Among those present was State's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. Police personnel accorded a guard of honour to the deceased police officer at the crematorium. Earlier, the wreath laying ceremony was held at the headquarters of the 4th battalion of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) in Mana area, which was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao, State Assembly Speaker Raman Singh, Ministers and senior police officers. 'Cowardly act' Describing Girepunje as a brave and committed officer, Mr. Sai told journalists that the Naxalites had committed the cowardly act out of frustration as the end of Maoism was near. He also lent his shoulders to Girepunje's mortal remains while they were being put in a flower-decked mini-truck at the CAF premises, as did his deputies and Mr. Singh. Girepunje was killed and two more officers were injured when an IED, allegedly planted by the Maoists, exploded near Dondra village on Konta-Errabor road in Sukma.
