Nivin Pauly-Abrid Shine In Legal Trouble, Fraud Case Registered In Action Hero Biju 2 Row

Last Updated: A case has been filed against Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and director Abrid Shine for alleged financial fraud, following a complaint by a Thalayolaparambu resident. Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and filmmaker Abrid Shine are facing legal trouble after a case was registered against them in connection with an alleged financial fraud related to their upcoming film Action Hero Biju 2. The complaint was filed by P S Shamnas, a resident of Thalayolaparambu and co-producer of the 2022 film Mahaveeryar, starring Pauly. According to the police, the FIR was lodged on Wednesday night under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating). In his complaint, Shamnas alleged that after Mahaveeryar failed commercially, Nivin Pauly offered to pay him Rs 95 lakh as compensation. He further claimed that Pauly promised to include him as a partner in his next film Action Hero Biju 2, directed by Shine. Shamnas alleged that he was asked to invest money into the production of the sequel and ended up spending approximately Rs 1.9 crore. He said the film was officially registered under his production company, Indian Movie Makers. However, he accused Pauly and Shine of entering into a Rs 5 crore distribution deal with a Dubai-based company, presenting an earlier contract that listed the film under Pauly's own production banner. Shamnas alleged that this move deliberately concealed his ownership stake and misled him, resulting in financial loss. In response, Nivin Pauly released a statement on social media clarifying that the dispute is currently under court-directed arbitration as of June 28. He added that there is a gag order in place to maintain confidentiality and that legal proceedings are underway. 'Legal action will be pursued against the same," he said in his post. On the work front, Nivin will next be seen in Sarvam Maya. He was recently announced as the lead in Girish AD's next directorial venture, alongside Mamitha Baiju. Nivin Pauly is all set to return as Sub-Inspector Biju Paulose in the sequel to Action Hero Biju, reuniting once again with director Abrid Shine. The original film, which released on February 4, 2016, was well-received by audiences and praised for its realistic portrayal of a police officer's day-to-day life. Nearly a decade later, the actor-director duo is teaming up for Action Hero Biju 2. The makers had earlier confirmed that pre-production work is now underway. The sequel will be backed by Nivin's home banner, Pauly Jr Pictures. First Published: July 19, 2025, 11:30 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
