A loan move to Girona may beckon for a talented young Manchester City centre-back

One player who could shine for Manchester City if given the opportunity next season is young centre-back Vitor Reis. The young Brazilian defender has shown snippets of his quality since signing for the club during the January transfer window. But heading into the 25/26 season Pep Guardiola's squad is loaded with centre-backs. If players such as John Stones, Nathan Ake or Manuel Akanji don't leave the club this summer it's hard to see how Vitor Reis will be given opportunities to play next season. Now it has been reported that Girona are eager to sign Vitor Reis on loan for next season. That could be the ideal setting for Reis to play regular first-team football in La Liga in a bid to further his development for a long career at Manchester City. Multiple reports indicate that Girona are interested in signing Vitor Reis on loan. Spanish reporter Nil Solà has reported that Girona are eager to bring Vitor Reis to the club on loan for next season. Furthermore, Solà reports that Vitor Reis' strong aerial ability and his ball-playing prowess make him an ideal signing for Girona. Lastly, Solà reports that Vitor Reis is reportedly keen on a move to Girona. There may not be opportunities for Vitor Reis to play regularly at Manchester City next season. Looking at Pep Guardiola's squad it is stacked with centre-backs. Currently, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are in the City squad. It is hard to see Manchester City entering next season with 7 centre-backs. Although, based on City's defensive injuries last season perhaps that number isn't enough. Unless a centre-back or two are sold it's hard to see where Vitor Reis will get minutes next season. He'd likely spend next season on the periphery of Pep Guardiola's squad. Based on that fact a loan move to Girona could prove to be the ideal move for Reis. He can play at a high level while he develops as a player. That move could set him up for a long and prosperous career at Manchester City. With his obvious talent, physical attributes and potential there is little doubt that Vitor Reis will make the grade at City. He will likely benefit from a season playing in La Liga. That way he can hone his craft before potentially kicking on as a City player next season. Girona appear eager to sign Vitor Reis on loan for the 25/26 season. Looking at what may be best for his development that may be the better move for the young Brazilians career.

Unwanted Barcelona star spotted training with Hansi Flick's squad

An out-of-favour member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was on Sunday spotted in training alongside the rest of the club's first-team squad. The player in question? Oriol Romeu. Experienced midfielder Romeu is for his part fresh off a season away from Barcelona, during which the 33-year-old linked back up with former club Girona. After the brass at the Estadi Montilivi made the call not to move ahead with a permanent deal for Romeu, however, he was shifted back onto the books of Barca once more. It is common knowledge across Spain that the former Southampton man is not part of the plans of Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick, expected to be on the move before the summer is out. But as alluded to above, this has not stopped Romeu from joining Flick's troops in pre-season training. As showcased in the footage below, the Spaniard played his part in group activities at The Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Sunday: Conor Laird – GSFN

2031 Ryder Cup to be hosted in Girona, Spain, says Catalan golf federation

Barcelona, Spain (AP) — The 2031 Ryder Cup will be held in northeastern Spain, the president of the Catalan golf federation has told The Associated Press. Ramon Nogué, president of the Catalan golf federation, told the AP by phone Friday that 'next week it will be official' that Girona will be announced as the host of the golfing event between the best male players of Europe and the United States. The choice of Girona's Camiral Golf course was first reported by Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia. 'Any announcement in relation to future editions of the Ryder Cup will be made in due course,' Ryder Cup Europe said. The Camiral resort, which was previously called PGA Catalunya, has hosted European Tour events and the Spanish Open. It has been owned by Irish businessman Denis O'Brien since 2008. Irish media have reported that O'Brien has invested tens of millions of euros in upgrades to the courses and the hotel, as well as accommodation on the property. This will be the second time for Spain to host the Cup after Valderrama in 1997, and just the fourth time it will be played in continental Europe after Le Golf National outside Paris in 2018 and Marco Simone outside Rome in 2023. The Ryder Cup is closely tied to Spain because of European team stalwarts Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal and Sergio García. This year's Ryder Cup will be held at Bethpage Black in New York in September. The next one staged in Europe is in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland. ___ AP Sports Writer Steve Douglas in Portrush, Northern Ireland, contributed to this report. ___ AP golf: Joseph Wilson, The Associated Press
