A number of high-profile stars have left Coronation Street after a string of high-profile budget cuts. However, one star has revealed that she is very much set to stay on the cobbles, and possibly behind the bar of the Rovers. West End star Jodie Prenger, 46, first made her debut on the long-running serial drama as Glenda Shuttleworth in August 2022. She rose to fame after winning the second series of The Biggest Loser in 2006. This was before she beat out the likes of Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley to win the role of Nancy in the 2009 West End revival of Oliver as part of Andrew Lloyd Webber's BBC Talent show, I'd Do Anything. The actress soon swapped the stage for the screen as she secured a 'dream' role on the cobbles. Jodie has now revealed that she's set to reprise her popular role in more episodes of the show. She excitedly told Bella magazine: "I've just re-signed my contract! The poor things have got stuck with me for another year! "I'm thrilled. I love it there. I used to always say to my agent, 'Would you ask if I can be on Corrie?'." She added: "I was that crazy person outside, pitched in a tent, wanting to get in – and now I'm in!" Coronation Street's Jodie Prenger reveals future of Platt family after fans feared another soap legend will quit This comes following a string of high-profile exits including Helen Worth, who departed her long-running role as Gail Platt. This was after a 50-year tenure on ITV screens which kicked off a series of other long-running cast members also leaving Weatherfield. Former I'm A Celeb campmate Sue Cleaver left her role as Eileen Grimshaw behind, whilst Daisy Midgeley (played by Charlotte Jordan) flew abroad for a new life in the sun. Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) was dramatically killed off, while fans are currently witnessing the decline of Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) from Dementia. Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King) also left the street to volunteer at a modern slavery charity in London after her partner Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) started fresh in Germany. This is after ITV slashed the number of weekly episodes of their entire soap offering. Emmerdale used to air six episodes per week, Monday to Friday with a double episode on Thursdays. Corrie also aired six episodes per week, which were spread across Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with two episodes each night. Now just five 30-minute episodes of each soap will air in what execs have labelled as the 'soap power hour'. 7 Jodie has revealed that she will still appear on the soap for another year Credit: PA 7 This is following a number of high-profile exits amid a cash crisis behind the scenes Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 7 Sue Cleaver left her long-running role of Eileen Grimshaw after over two decades on the cobbles Credit: Rex 7 Charlotte Jordan also quit her role on the cobbles as her character flew abroad for a new life in the sun Credit: ITV Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.

Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025 ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap. This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama. Colson Smith - Craig Tinker The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig's on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role. Sue Cleaver - Eileen Grimshaw After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I'm A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she's already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him. Sue Devaney - Debbie Webster In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline. Charlotte Jordan - Daisy Midgeley The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she's hungry to see what other opportunities await. Shelley King - Yasmeen Metcalfe The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. ITV Coronation Street legend to return 60 years on after Rovers takeover
Coronation Street fans believe Glenda Shuttleworth will soon be getting a new love interest in the form of a returning character Coronation Street fans are buzzing with speculation about a potential new romance for Glenda Shuttleworth, portrayed by Jodie Prenger. There's also excitement brewing at the prospect of a returning soap legend. Glenda made her debut in Weatherfield back in 2022 as the daughter of soap legend Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd) and sister to George (Tony Maudsley), the local undertaker. The Rovers Return barmaid quickly won over viewers and has been at the centre of numerous major storylines over the years. From an unexpected break-in at the Rovers to a family feud over the Shuttleworth empire, Glenda's life has been far from peaceful recently. This week on the ITV soap, Glenda was overjoyed to become the new manager of the Rovers Return. As fans will recall, Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) had to give up control of the iconic pub after failing to repay Carla Connor (Alison King), who decided to sell it, reports Belfast Live. As a result, Jenny ended her stint at the Rovers and has since found work at The Kabin. In Monday's episode which aired on May 12, with Jenny no longer at the helm, Carla offered the managerial role to Ryan (Ryan Prescott), who had just accepted a job with Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney). Carla then selected Brenda for the position, much to her delight. She immediately got stuck in, performing several songs for the pub-goers later on. Coronation Street viewers are abuzz with rumours about Glenda's love life, surmising that her burgeoning career suggests romance is on the horizon. On a fan forum dedicated to the soap, spectators have been eagerly speculating who Glenda could be entangled with next. One fan couldn't contain their delight: "It's about time Glenda is having a storyline, always liked her. All she needs now is some romance!" The comments section ignited with viewers proposing Chris Gascoyne's character Peter Barlow as a fitting match. Prognoses were shared with certainty: "Peter Barlow! They would be good together." Another added with gusto: "Yeah, he could come back and help her run the Rovers." Additionally, one fan was daring in their assertion: "He used to run it back in the day so never say never.." Renowned character Peter, who originally set foot on the scene in 1965 and springs from the iconic Ken (portrayed by William Roache), has played pivotal roles in numerous key story arcs within the soap. Records show his most recent appearance occurred in 2023. Meanwhile, A devastating Coronation Street death might be looming next week, with Craig Tinker set to depart the ITV soap following a "vicious attack". Colson Smith, who has played Craig for over ten years, had his upcoming exit confirmed earlier this year after it was revealed last autumn that his character would be written out. Recent rumours have speculated that Craig could meet a tragic end, a prospect now seemingly supported by forthcoming spoilers, new images, and a tantalising trailer. While fans will undoubtedly hope for Craig's survival and wish to see him leave Weatherfield unscathed, it has been officially announced that the beloved character will suffer severe injuries, leaving him in a critical condition. As the plot line involving Kit Green and antagonist Mick Michaelis escalates, the unfortunate Craig may be collateral damage, with others also at risk.
