Sao Paulo provides spectacular stage for the 2025 Global Champions Arabians Tour
SAO PAULO: The 2025 Sao Paulo edition of the Global Champions Arabians Tour came to a close on Monday evening, with Lughan, owned by Haras Paiquere, claiming the prestigious Senior Stallion Gold Championship title. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport Held at the Helvetia Riding Center in Indaiatuba, the Sao Paulo stage was the third stop of the 2025 Americas Series. Over two days, the venue was transformed into an international equestrian extravaganza, welcoming more than 100 purebred Arabian horses and their handlers, as well as an audience of VIPs, horse lovers, and international guests. With a prize purse of $270,000, the Sao Paulo stage was a key qualifier for the GCAT Americas overall ranking. Winners advanced in the race to claim part of the $1.275 million in end-of-season prize purse, allocated to the top 20 male and female horses and handlers, with an additional $50,000 bonus for the highest-scoring horse of the Americas Series. The tour continues to solidify its reputation as the most prestigious and rewarding in Arabian horse sport. 'Sao Paulo has embraced the spirit of the Global Champions Arabians Tour with energy and elegance,' said Sheikh Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Thani, deputy CEO, Global Champions Arabians Tour. 'This stage celebrated more than just competition; it was a vibrant expression of culture, excellence, and unity that truly elevated the Americas Series.' The first day of the event concluded with a live performance by Brazilian music legend Gilberto Gil, while the second day featured closing entertainment, followed by the official championship awards ceremony and a show by renowned Brazilian duo Fernando & Sorocaba. The winning mare and stallion received a custom Sao Paulo champion blanket, vibrant yellow with tropical birds, flowers, and greenery celebrating Arabian strength and the spirit of Brazil. The Tour's Americas Series now moves to Stage 4 in Denver, Colorado, on August 8-9, as the journey toward the season's grand finale in Doha, the World Arabian Horse Championship Supreme, continues. Global Champions Arabians Tour returns to the Netherlands
DOHA: The second annual Global Champions Arabians Tour will ride into in the Netherlands on July 18. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The three-day event, at the Longines Tops International Arena in Valkenswaard, is the sixth stage of the 2025 Europe and Middle East Series, and the second European stop on the tour, after Cannes in France last month. The total prize pool for this stage is €1.41 million ($1.65 million): €1.05 million for the championship and €360,000 for the qualifying classes. The results will also contribute to overall rankings ahead of the World Arabian Horse Championship Supreme in Doha this December. 'Returning to Valkenswaard is a true highlight of the season,' said Faleh Al-Nasr, chairperson of the Global Champions Arabians Tour. 'This stage reflects our commitment to excellence, bringing together top-tier competition, international audiences and the timeless beauty of Arabian horses in one of Europe's premier equestrian destinations.' Outside of the action in the arena, there will be a supporting program featuring cultural performances, special exhibitions celebrating the heritage and art of Arabian horses, and the event will conclude with what organizers say will be a memorable closing ceremony. There will also be an exclusive shopping village showcasing a curated mix of local and international brands, artisan products, event merchandise, and gourmet food and drink. The event begins on Friday, July 18, with an opening ceremony and qualifying classes for yearling fillies and colts, and junior fillies. Junior colts, senior mares and senior stallions will take to the arena on Saturday, July 19, and the action concludes on Sunday, July 20, with the championship competitions across all categories, followed by the closing ceremony. After Valkenswaard, the focus shifts to the UK, where the seventh stage of the Europe and Middle East Series will take place in London from Aug. 14 to 17.

Jonathan Vilma, NFL analyst and ex-Jets star, arrested in Miami
Former Jets linebacker and current Fox NFL analyst Jonathan Vilma was arrested Wednesday in Miami for driving with a suspended license, according to reporter Andy Slater. Vilma reportedly had been stopped because his tag had expired. He just completed his fifth season calling games for Fox alongside Kenny Albert this past season. 4 Jonathan Vilma in April 2025. Vilma joined the media ranks after a successful collegiate and professional career. He was a standout for Miami from 2000-03 before being drafted by the Jets with the No. 12 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. Vilma's collegiate prowess, including 2003 First-Team All-American honors, has him as a candidate for the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame. 4 Vilma in 2005 with the Jets. Anthony J Causi Vilma won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2004 and appeared in 55 games for the Jets from 2004-07, including a 2005 campaign in which he led the league with 173 combined tackles (128 solo) and earned his first Pro Bowl nomination. Prosecutors later dropped the charges, per the outlet, and he donated $1,000 to a hospital trauma center as part of the negotiation. 'I appreciate that the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office did their due diligence and decided not to file charges against me regarding the arrest that occurred on January 16, 2009, in Miami,' Vilma said in a statement at the time, according to ESPN. 'I believe the State Attorney's Office did the just and right thing in this matter. I would like to thank my family and friends, the New Orleans Saints organization, and my fans for supporting and believing in me.'

Richest US households — including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos — hold record-breaking share of total wealth: data
The super rich got super richer in 2024 – and that process is only speeding up. The 19 richest US households – which include titans of industry like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett – saw their wealth grow by $1 trillion last year, according to new data released Wednesday. These superbillionaires' gains was more than Switzerland's entire economy is worth, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited the analysis by Gabriel Zucman, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley and the Paris School of Economics. And the pace at which these uber-rich households grow their share of the country's wealth is significantly increasing. In 1982, the top 0.00001% of Americans controlled 0.1% of total US wealth. Overall, the broad-based S&P 500 soared 23%, the tech-heavy Nasdaq skyrocketed 28% and the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 13%. The number of billionaires has grown as well. There were nearly 1,990 billionaires last year, up from 1,370 in 2021, according to JPMorgan Chase's private bank estimates. The top 1% in the UK, meanwhile, held 21.3% of the wealth; in France, they controlled 27.2%; and in Germany, 27.6%. All other wealth groups in the US have seen their shares of total wealth shrink over time.
