Accra [Ghana], July 3 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ghana has struck a deeply personal chord with the Indian diaspora, many of whom gathered in Accra to welcome him with cultural performances and heartfelt messages. For those who met him, the experience was more than a diplomatic occasion; it was emotional, familiar, and unforgettable. Speaking to ANI, Gaurav Sharda, a member of the Indian community in Ghana, described the moment in deeply emotional terms. 'It felt as if we were meeting a member of our family whom we had lost touch with. Indian diaspora has gathered here to meet PM Modi, it reflects a unique culture. It shows as if there is India within Ghana. It felt great.' 'I was so happy. I was so excited. I had goosebumps. It felt amazing. He was watching us dance,' said Saanvi Adhikari, a young performer who was part of a cultural presentation staged in Modi's honour. Ankur, a volunteer from the Art of Living foundation, said, 'I feel so good because he reflects the spirit of One World Family. That is what India is about. The whole world is together here.' PM Modi arrived in Accra on Wednesday on his State Visit to Ghana and was accorded a ceremonial welcome. In a special gesture, Ghana President John Dramani Mahama came to the airport to receive PM Modi. The gesture is reflective of the strong and historic bonds of friendship between the two nations. On his arrival at the hotel, PM Modi was greeted with cheers, chants, and a cultural display by members of the Indian diaspora. They were present in large numbers outside the hotel to extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to PM Modi. 'Gladdened by the incredible warmth shown by the Indian community here in Accra, Ghana. The spirit of togetherness and the deep cultural linkages are truly wonderful,' PM Modi wrote on X, after he received a warm welcome from the Indian community. 'PM @narendramodi arrived in Accra, Ghana, a short while ago, marking the start of a historic visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over three decades. In a gracious and warm gesture, President @JDMahama personally received PM Modi at the airport, underscoring the strong ties between the two nations,' the Prime Minister's office wrote on X. As PM Modi stepped out of his vehicle, the crowd erupted in applause. Many reached out to shake his hand or catch a glimpse of the leader. Prime Minister's visit to Ghana is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in the last three decades. The Prime Minister arrived in Ghana in the first leg of his five-nation visit. During his stay, he will hold bilateral talks with President John Mahama and address the Indian community in Accra. A group of young children recited 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' before PM Modi, as they welcomed him to Accra. PM Modi also watched a brief musical display organised for him at the hotel in Accra. In his departure statement, PM Modi had said Ghana is a valued partner in the Global South and plays an important role in the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States. PM Modi said he looked forward to his exchanges aimed at further deepening India's historical ties and opening up new windows of cooperation, including in areas such as investment, energy, health, security, capacity building, and development partnerships. A group of children, dressed in traditional Indian attire, practised the Sanskrit verses meant to greet the Prime Minister upon his arrival. A Young boy awaiting PM Modi's arrival in Accra said, 'I feel so excited to meet him because he is a very great personality. I wish he were in front of me right now and I was hugging him because I have heard many stories about are going to recite 'shloka'...' PM Modi arrived today in Accra on his state visit to Ghana. In a special gesture, on arrival at the airport, PM Modi was received by the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and accorded a ceremonial welcome. This gesture is reflective of the strong and historic bonds of friendship between the two nations. PM Modi's visit to Ghana is the first such visit in the last three decades. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a five-nation tour, arrived in Ghana Wednesday on a two-day State visit, during which he will hold talks with the West African country's top leadership and review the strong bilateral partnership. In a special gesture, the PM was received by President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama at the Kotoka International Airport and accorded a guard of honour. In a post on X, PM Modi said, 'I'm honoured by the special gesture of President John Dramani Mahama for welcoming me at the airport. Our nations look forward to working together to strengthen our long-standing relationship and explore fresh avenues for collaboration.' 'This gesture is reflective of the strong and historic bonds of friendship between the two nations,' the MEA said, adding that the visit would deepen the partnership and underscored India's commitment to strengthening its engagement with Africa and Global South Partners. This is the first visit by an Indian PM to Ghana in the last three decades. Ghana is a valued partner in the Global South and plays an important role in the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States, Modi said in his departure statement. Modi said he looked forward to talks aimed at deepening the two countries' historical ties and opening up new windows of cooperation, including in the areas of investment, energy, health, security, capacity building and development partnership. 'As fellow democracies, it will be an honour to speak at the Parliament of Ghana,' he said. According to the MEA, PM Modi will hold talks with the President of Ghana to review the strong bilateral partnership and discuss ways to enhance it through economic, energy, and defence collaboration. From Ghana, Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day visit from July 3 to 4. The PM will then visit Argentina from July 4 to 5. In the fourth leg, Modi will travel to Brazil for the BRICS summit. On his way back, he will stop over in Namibia. In his departure statement, the PM said India shares deep-rooted historical, cultural and people-to-people connect with Trinidad and Tobago, adding that he will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during his visit. About his Argentina visit, he said, 'Argentina is a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20. I look forward to my discussions with President Javier Milei.' Regarding the BRICS summit, he said, 'As a founding member, India is committed to BRICS as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies. Together, we strive for a more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order.' On the sidelines of the Summit, he said will also meet several world leaders. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, are not attending the summit. 'I will travel to Brasilia for a bilateral State visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades. This visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen our close partnership with Brazil, and work with my friend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, on advancing the priorities of the Global South,' he said. About his Namibia visit, the PM said he looked forward to meeting President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and chart a new roadmap for cooperation.
