Too young to retire, too old to hire?
Mid-career reinvention isn't a trend. It's survival.
We spend a lot of time worrying about young people trying to break into the job market. But what we rarely talk about is what happens to those of us already in it, suddenly finding the ground shifting under our feet.
In this episode of Lens on Singapore, I look at a group often overlooked: mid-career professionals in their 40s and 50s who are facing retrenchment, redundancy, or simply being quietly passed over. I'm in my 50s. I love what I do. But I've seen too many friends and peers get sidelined, not because they couldn't do the job, but because someone assumed they were too old to learn.
I'm joined by Gloria Arlini, chief executive of Generation Singapore; Masni Goh, career coach and founder of Mind Coach SG; and Kenneth Wong, director of the trade and lifestyle division at Workforce Singapore. Together, we unpack what's holding older workers back, what employers are actually looking for, and what real support looks like beyond just another skills course.
Why listen?
