Eagles' Dallas Goedert Falls in Tight End Rankings

Eagles' Dallas Goedert Falls in Tight End Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert ranked at No. 7 in the top 10 at his position ahead of last season. In what was his seventh season in the NFL, former South Dakota State Jackrabbit posted the lowest yards (496) and receptions since his rookie season in 2018, and the lowest touchdown total (two) of his career. All that in a season that saw his team win the Super Bowl. It's not uncommon for stars to get lost on a roster that boasts so many other stars. But the numbers don't lie. Goedert's place in the offensive hierarchy fell last season, particularly with the arrival of Saquon Barkley. But even after a less-than-stellar season, Goedert still finds himself in the top 10 of ESPN's positional rankings, that was compiled by a survey of NFL coaches, executives and scouts. Goedert fell from his 2024 spot at No. 7 to No. 9. "Goedert occupies a tricky space on the list because he's a longtime top-10 resident but is, quite clearly, the fourth option in the Eagles' offense behind Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith," Jeremy Fowler wrote. "Philadelphia explored a potential trade for Goedert this offseason, only to revise his contract to one year and $10 million. His 2024 output -- 42 catches for 496 yards and two touchdowns -- was his lowest since his rookie year in 2018. But he's still considered among the most complete tight ends in the NFL." Even with the statistical fall, one scout still thinks he affects the offensive game plan. "He's still on the short list of tight ends that affect the game at a high level," a high-ranking scout with an NFL team said. Another coach believes the theory that he got lost on the roster among other stars. "Very good player -- does everything extremely well, just not exceptional at any one thing in particular," a veteran defensive coach noted. "You don't give him as much thought as some of these other top [tight ends], but probably because you can't afford to with Saquon, A.J. and Smith in that offense." 5 most team-friendly contracts on the Eagles roster

We're looking at five Eagles who have the most team-friendly contracts on the Philadelphia roster The Eagles have one of the youngest teams in the NFL after several key departures and the retirement of Brandon Graham during the offseason. Thanks to the genius of Howie Roseman, Philadelphia has $30,782,776 in salary cap space, and several third and fourth-year players who could help reset the market at their respective positions. With training camp fast approaching, we're looking at the five most team-friendly contracts on the Eagles roster. QB Jalen Hurts Hurts is entering year three of his $255 million contract, and the Eagles' quarterback is the 11th-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL at $51 million per season. Thanks to Howie Roseman, Hurts carries a $21,869,800 cap hit, which ranks 16th in the league, and a $1,170,000 base salary, which is tied for 48th in the NFL. RB Saquon Barkley Barkley is the highest-paid running back in the NFL after signing his 2-year, $41 million contract extension, and it's a bargain thanks to Howie Roseman. Barkley has a cap hit of $6,661,000, and his yearly cap hit won't rise over $13 million until 2028. DB Reed Blankenship Blankenship has Pro Bowl potential, but is a salary cap bargain at $ 1.845 million in 2025. Blankenship is a top-15 safety, but the 55th-highest paid in the NFL. Blankenship's 78.8 PFF overall grade over the past three years places him 14th among safeties. OL Jordan Mailata Twenty million per season seems to be the threshold for solid to excellent left tackles, but Mailata was the NFL's highest graded left tackle in 2025, and he's the sixth-highest paid at the position. Eagles CB Trio Philadelphia will likely start the 2025 season with Kelee Ringo (3), Cooper DeJean (2), and Quinyon Mitchell (2) at the starting cornerback positions. The Eagles have two of the top 15 cornerbacks in the NFL, but Mitchell is almost the 60th highest paid at his position, with DeJean and Mitchell even further behind. BONUS: TE Dallas Goedert Goedert was due $14.25 million in 2025, with no money guaranteed entering the final year of his deal. The team had trade offers for Goedert during the draft, but he ultimately decided to stay and reworked his contract. He's now the 13th highest-paid tight end in the NFL. Goedert missed 17 games to injury over his last four seasons, but when healthy, he is a top-five performer at the position. During the postseason run to the Super Bowl, Goedert led the Eagles with 17 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown. Goedert's run blocking also significantly affected the team's dominance.

Eagles' new OC might be the catalyst for Dallas Goedert's breakout season

Dallas Goedert's long-awaited breakout season may finally be unlocked by the new offensive coordinator. Time certainly flew by. A little over two months after the Philadelphia Eagles raised the Lombardi Trophy (for the first time), they made Dallas Goedert the 49th overall selection of the 2018 NFL Draft. The former South Dakota State Jackrabbits standout was a hit almost immediately. Goedert became a hit almost immediately despite his first name being the same as that of one of Philadelphia's fiercest rivals. The Birds felt so good about their young tight end that they eventually allowed a franchise legend and Super Bowl hero (Zach Ertz) to walk. Ertz's exit meant Goedert was now the starting tight end on the depth chart. Since day one in that role, it was obvious that he had the tools to be one of the best at his position. There's only one problem. More often than not, Dallas has missed time because of injury, or he has been underutilized. That brings us to the present day. Goedert is in a contract season. Might we finally get the breakout season we have always hoped for? Dallas Goedert seems thrilled about Kevin Patillo's recent promotion Believe it or not, Goedert is on the other side of 30 now. He enters his eighth NFL season, possibly his last with the only franchise he has known since entering the NFL. Yearly, we discuss Goedert's potential breakout campaign. He's a rare blend in today's NFL, the prototypical tight end who blocks and catches the ball with equal proficiency. Still, his role in this Eagles offense seems set in stone. It appears he'll probably never be more than the fourth option in the offensive attack behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley. Dallas Goedert never exceeded 1,000 yards or five receiving touchdowns in a single season before now. With so much offensive weaponry on the roster at the moment, it seems unlikely that he'll do so for as long as he continues playing in Philadelphia. Still, he's viewed by his coaches and teammates as an essential cog in the machine. Jalen Hurts has told him this, and the new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, has echoed that same sentiment. Goedert recently hung out on ESPN's NFL Live. He offered some high praise for Patullo. Thank NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk for providing the quote: 'I'm really excited for Kevin. He's been with us since (Nick) Sirianni got here. He's waited his turn to get this opportunity. Throughout OTAs, I've really loved what he's doing with the offense. Little changes here and there and I'm really excited for the opportunity just to — with the connection I grew with him the last four years. What he sees in me in different ways that he's going to get me the ball I'm really excited for.' For most of Goedert's career, we have often said that his next season would be the season. For various reasons, including injuries, we never saw the breakout affair that we had been waiting for. Still, if he's able to stay healthy and stay on the field for a full 18-week, 17-game slate, there's a high probability that something magical will happen from time to time.

Dallas Goedert reworked contract for a chance "to try to win another one"

Dallas Goedert didn't know for certain he would remain with the Eagles for another season until early May when he agreed to a contract restructure. Thus, it crossed his mind that Super Bowl LIX might have been his last with the team. The Eagles drafted Goedert in the second round in 2018, and they signed him to a four-year, $57 million extension in 2021. His annual average of $14.25 million had the Eagles listening to trade offers this offseason. Goedert, though, agreed to rework his deal, taking a pay cut to $10 million this season with a chance to earn $1 million more in incentives. 'Yeah, so when I got drafted a year after they won the Super Bowl, I was able to experience the fun parts of a Super Bowl the year after winning the Super Bowl,' Goedert told ESPN during Tight End University. 'After we won, and the opportunity to run it back again to see the banner drop, it just wouldn't have felt -- it would have felt I was missing on a lot not being there to see all that stuff. I got a lot of love for the city of Philadelphia, the ownership all the way to the cooks in the building. I got a great relationship with all of them. So, I figured for me it was best to work out a deal, so I could stay there and be with the people I find that are important and try to win another one.' Goedert, 30, played only 10 games last season and had the second-worst stats of his career next to his rookie year when he backed up Zach Ertz. Goedert caught only 42 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. His return, though, gives new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo another weapon at his disposal as the Eagles attempt a repeat.

Dallas Goedert Cites Key Reason For Reworking Contract With Eagles

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Coming off their Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles had a big decision to make regarding tight end Dallas Goedert. GM Howie Roseman managed to keep him around for the time being, reworking his contract for the 2025 season. Weeks removed from working things out from a business standpoint, Goedert opened up on what made him want to remain with the franchise. Goedert's tenure with the Eagles began back in 2018 when they drafted him late in the second round. He started out splitting time with Zach Ertz at tight end, eventually fully taking over the reins. Since then, he's gone on to become an effective piece in the Eagles' offense. The 30-year-old is coming off a down year in 2024, totaling 496 yards and two touchdowns in 10 appearances. Despite this, the front office made sure to retain him as the Eagles attempt to compete for a second straight championship.
