She Opts for Flights, He Boards the Bus/ Train: Goibibo Unpacks Gender Differences in How Students Travel
Goibibo, one of India's leading travel brands, has revealed fascinating differences in how female and male students travel, pay, and plan, based on bookings made by 50,000 verified student travellers through its dedicated Student GoPass program since January 2025. The booking patterns indicate that the student demographic is price-conscious and digital-first, but within the same, there is a nuanced divide between the two genders, especially when it comes to mode of transport and payment preferences. Female students are more likely to opt for flights over ground transport. While 36% of them book domestic flights, only 23% of their male counterparts do the same. In contrast, half of male students (50%) prefer ground transport, buses and trains, compared to just 34% of women, indicating a preference toward air travel among female travellers, likely driven by safety and time considerations. The divide extends into device and payment behaviours. More than one in three female students use an iPhone, compared to one in four males. When it comes to payments, UPI is the preferred method for 71% of female students, versus 64% of men. Interestingly, female students are 50% less likely to use 'Pay Later' options, as compared to male counterparts. Despite these behavioral differences, one theme is universal: affordability. 74% of all student travellers book accommodation priced below ₹3,000 per night, signaling that the budget-conscious mindset is dominant, though the pathways differ. Students also tend to plan ahead; nearly 63% of their bookings are made more than a week in advance. This contrasts with the broader Indian traveller base, where majority bookings take place within a week of the travel date. 'The female student traveller is digitally savvy, deliberate in her choices, and values both convenience and safety,' said Raj Rishi Singh, CMO, Goibibo. 'While her preferences may differ from her male counterpart what unites them is a sharp eye on value. That's precisely what we've aimed to address with our GoPass program—making Goibibo the preferred platform for student travellers seeking smart, affordable options.'

Goibibo reveals gender-based travel trends among Indian students using GoPass program
A new report from travel platform Goibibo highlights gender differences in how Indian students book, pay for, and plan their travel. Based on 50,000 verified bookings through its Student GoPass program since January 2025, the data offers a window into Gen Z's travel habits—and how they balance safety, convenience, and affordability. The Student GoPass program offers verified students exclusive discounts across flights, hotels, and buses, aiming to support their travel needs with a digital-first, budget-conscious experience. The findings indicate a notable divergence in preferred modes of transport. Female students are considerably more inclined to fly, with 36% opting for domestic flights compared to just 23% of their male counterparts. On the other hand, ground transport, including buses and trains, is favoured by 50% of male students, while only 34% of female students choose these options. This difference suggests that factors such as safety and time efficiency may play a crucial role in female students' travel decisions. Device usage and payment behaviors further underscore these contrasts. More than one-third of female students utilize iPhones, a higher proportion than the one in four observed among male students. While UPI remains the dominant payment method for both genders, its adoption is higher among women (71%) than men (64%). Interestingly, female students are also 50% less likely to use "Pay Later" services, suggesting a preference for immediate payment. Nearly three out of four students across genders choose accommodation priced under Rs 3,000 per night. Additionally, 63% of students book their travel more than a week in advance. "The female student traveler is digitally savvy, deliberate in her choices, and values both convenience and safety," commented Raj Rishi Singh, CMO, Goibibo. Female students prefer flights; males take train or bus: Travel survey
Female college students prefer to fly and men of their age are more likely to take a bus or train, said a survey by online travel company Goibibo on Thursday. The survey was based on 50,000 bookings made through Goibibo's GoPass programme for students since January and tracked how they travel, plan and pay. Safety and speed appear to matter more for female students: 36 per cent of them booked domestic flights compared to just 23 per cent of male students. As many as 50 per cent of male students booked bus or train tickets for travel, compared to 34 per cent of women. 'The female student traveller is digitally savvy and deliberate in her choices. She values convenience and safety,' said Raj Rishi Singh, chief marketing officer at Goibibo. As many as 71 per cent of female travellers used UPI to make payments for travel, compared to 64 per cent males. But female students are 50 per cent less likely to opt for 'buy now, pay later' schemes than males. One in three women books travel tickets through iPhones, while Android devices were more popular among men. Despite such behavioural differences, affordability remains the common thread. Nearly three-fourths (74 per cent) of all students booked accommodations priced under Rs 3,000 per night. Planning is also evident, with 63 per cent of bookings made more than a week before travel, unlike the wider Indian traveller base that books closer to travel dates. GoPass targets student needs Goibibo's GoPass programme, aimed at making travel affordable for students, offers 25 per cent off on hotels, free meals on domestic flights, and a flat 10 per cent discount on flights and bus bookings. Students are verified through their college email IDs to access these exclusive deals. 'What unites both male and female students is a sharp eye on value. GoPass was designed to cater to that mindset,' said Singh.

Begumpet resident loses over ₹3.5 lakh in Telegram task scam
A 27-year-old resident of Begumpet was defrauded of more than ₹3.5 lakh in a Telegram-based scam in which cyber fraudsters posed as representatives of Goibibo's promotions department, luring the victim with promises of quick commissions through task-based hotel ratings. The scam unfolded when the victim received a message on Telegram app and a follow-up WhatsApp call from individuals claiming to represent 'Goibibo India Promotions'. They introduced a scheme that allegedly paid users for rating hotels through links shared via Telegram. After completing a few tasks, the victim received small commissions, ₹970 initially, followed by ₹17,109 seemingly credited as a reward for participation. The timely payments created an illusion of legitimacy and encouraged further engagement. On June 22, the victim was added to a Telegram group, populated with other 'participants' who shared screenshots of large payouts. Convinced by this along with the assurance of quick profits, the victim invested ₹1 lakh into the scheme. The fraudsters then directed the victim to a manipulated website that showed a negative balance in the account wallet, pressuring him to 'recharge' funds in order to continue earning and recover the supposed losses. Under this pretext, the victim transferred ₹88,027 and ₹1 lakh on the same day, followed by another ₹1,69,882 on June 23. As the fake website showed an increasingly alarming deficit, reaching ₹5 lakh, the scammers attempted to extort more money by dangling the prospect of a ₹14–15 lakh return. It was only at this point that the victim realised the operation was fraudulent and reported the matter by dialling the national cybercrime helpline, 1930. A case has been booked by the Cybercrime Wing of the Hyderabad Police and an investigation is underway.
