John Legend laments Kanye West's ‘devolution'

The 'All of Me' singer was once close friends with the 'Gold Digger' hitmaker but their bond has cooled during the past few years after the rapper's bizarre behaviour and controversial statements caused points of conflict in their relationship. John told The Times newspaper: 'I think he was very different back then. We were both very idealistic and had big dreams, and we shared a lot of the same goals.' 'He had so much optimism. It does seem, and I don't want to characterise him too much, it seems he's lost some of that optimism.' Legend – whose relationship with West's now-ex-wife Kim Kardashian was once so close that he and wife Chrissy Teigen used to go on double dates with them – doesn't understand how the 'Jesus Walks' rapper could turn into someone so unrecognisable. He said: 'He's definitely said things that are pretty inexcusable, and that's why I've distanced myself from him.' 'But I also know that he's not the whole of who he is. He's not just the sum of the things he says in public.' 'He's also been very open about his struggles with mental health, and I think that's something we should take seriously.'

Gig-goers were beside themselves as he walked on stage in Paris for night two, the closing night of her short European leg of the Cowboy Carter tour. The French capital has been dubbed Queen B's 'favourite city' by fans as she brought out Miley Cyrus for a guest performance of II Most Wanted days before. Jay-Z rapped his part of Crazy In Love before his wife walked off stage and left him to perform his iconic track N****s in Paris — a collaboration with Kanye West — solo. The 55-year-old rapper didn't miss a beat as he burst into the track from their 2011 album,Watch the Throne. However, he did alter one lyric to omit Ye's name from the song, singing 'Just might let you meet Bey' instead. While it may be a happy coincidence that Bey's name fits nicely in the track, Jay-Z — real name Shawn Carter — appears to no longer be friends with his close collaborator. The Gold Digger rapper has been behaving erratically over the past few years, having declared he was a 'nazi' before retracting that statement. Ye, 48, claimed the falling out was sparked by Jay-Z's involvement with 2021 album Donda on the song Jail. 'Why did Jay Z have to say 'no red hat' on Jail,' he said on X in a now-deleted post. 'That s*** tore me to my soul. We fought about it and he told me either leave that line on there or take my verse off. Me wearing the red hat was the most stand out example of me going against 'the program.' Do you guys think he was instructed to say that?' The 'red hat' is thought to refer to Ye's endorsement of Donald Trump and his MAGA hats in the former reality star's first presidential election run. Later, Ye posted a string of messages on X aimed at the Carters, which included questioning the mental capabilities of their seven-year-old child. Insiders claimed the family was looking into taking legal action before Ye removed the post. He made sure to tell everyone it was not removed to be 'a good person.' 'I need everyone to know that I took the post about Jay Z and Beyoncé's family down … because there was a possibility of my Twitter being cancelled [sic],' he wrote. A source told Page Six at the time that the Roc Nation founder 'will absolutely not stand' for the way Ye 'has spoken about their children.' Beyonce and Jay-Z have never publicly addressed the rift, choosing instead to put on these huge displays of family unity, like in Paris. Paris was actually the city where the youngster made her first on stage appearance during the 2023 Renaissance Tour, showing off those now-famous dance moves. Little Rumi, seven, has also been making an appearance on the Cowboy Carter Tour, although her twin brother Sir is staying out of the spotlight. Since the Australian model, 30, married the rapper, 48, in 2022, the public has become accustomed to seeing rather a lot of her, whether it be her totally sheer Grammys dress or a barely-there underwear set. Consequently, concerns have been raised for her welfare, with the internet convinced that Ye is dictating what his spouse wears, especially given that he will always be fully clothed next to her. But as speculation about the nature of her marriage to Ye rages on, Bianca turned heads once more on Saturday with plenty of skin on show. The appearance marks Ye and Bianca's first public outing since rap star 50 Cent made a dig at the Gold Digger hitmaker's wife. Last week, Ye unexpectedly arrived at court as Sean 'Diddy' Combs' trial continues. He faces serious federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, which he has denied and pleaded not guilty to. Ye's appearance is said to have been short-lived, as, according to CNN, since he was not listed as an official attendee, he was directed to an overflow courtroom. After watching the proceedings via closed-circuit video for less than an hour, he exited the building and was seen driving off. Afterwards, 50 – real name Curtis James Jackson III – made it known how he felt, with Ye's arrival being widely interpreted as a display of support for Combs. Taking to Instagram, the Candy Shop hitmaker posted an AI-generated image of himself wearing a white ensemble similar to Ye's court look. In a savage caption, he dragged both Ye and his wife, making a reference to her nearly naked Grammys frock from earlier in the year. 'We are wearing white in honor of the freak offs,' he wrote. 'Damn Ye, you should have brought your dirty little wife with that Grammys outfit! @50centaction.' The 'freak offs' comment was seemingly a jibe at the unsettling sexual assault allegations surrounding Combs, who allegedly held days-long sex parties, which also involved ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. While famously loose-lipped on social media, Ye did not retort. He has, however, not made a secret of his friendship with Combs, having ignited rumours that the two had worked on a song together, on which he wanted daughter North West, 11, to feature, much to the fury of her mother, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. In March, the exes' latest row went public when Ye released a track titled Lonely Roads Still Go To Sunshine, which he said was a collaboration between Diddy, North, King Combs, and Jasmine Williams. Ye posted text messages online between himself and Kim, in which the Stronger rapper accused his former partner and her family of limiting his access to the children. The couple were in the country last month, causing quite a stir when Bianca strolled through a Mallorcan market, wearing next to nothing, accompanied by the controversial rapper. In new snaps, the couple can be seen in a gift shop, next to the crisp aisle, perusing a whole host of knick-knacks, including pool inflatables, soft toys, bottle openers, and penis-shaped straws. Barmaid, Carla Ingham, heard the rapper, 48, was out shopping with his 30-year-old wife from a workmate and reported that Kanye was looking at a display with Bianca, who was sporting a figure-hugging short black bodysuit, designer sunglasses and cream heels. Carla, who has lived in Magaluf for nearly 20 years, told What's The Jam: 'My workmate Lucas first spotted him heading into the supermarket next door. 'So I started filming myself walking into the shop. I called out: 'Hey Kanye'", but it appears the Gold Digger star didn't answer. Bianca and Kanye are reportedly staying on the island for six weeks after "horrifying" locals during a recent trip to Spain after the Aussie architect bared her breasts. Kanye was seen out and about at a Spanish market in Mallorca with his wife, who left onlookers gobsmacked with her racy attire. The model wore a black fishnet style bra top, baring her nipples and leaving bystanders horrified as they visited the market. The pair seemed happy and relaxed during their time in Spain, however, witnesses say locals were left horrified by Bianca's outfit choice for their market tour, with one even heard asking if that was her "real nipple" as she bared all in her sheer bra. "People were horrified. They could be heard asking, 'Is that her real nipple?' as they walked by. Kanye was standing back a little, letting her browse the market," a witness told While Bianca didn't break any laws on the island, people were left fuming by her outfit choice. "Why hasn't this woman been arrested for indecency yet!!!?' one person wrote. With another adding: "We have literally seen it all, even when we didn't want to,' another said, while a third wrote: 'So disrespectful to the country and their modest views." "How do they get away with this nudity? If any other non-celeb tried it, they would be arrested," another shared. Of course, it's the first time the architect has sparked outrage with her outfit choices. At the Grammys this year, Bianca arrived with Kanye and was wearing a black fur coat, before she dropped it to the floor and posed in a nude dress, leaving nothing to the imagination. At the time, X was awash with comments about her outfit choice. One wrote: "Kanye and that lady should be arrested for that stunt on the red carpet...... #GRAMMYs." "Every single time I have seen Kanye's wife naked was against my will," another said, while a third quipped: "Kanye's wife is fully naked.... does this event not have a dress code? On Tuesday, West's custom Maybach vehicle was seized in the parking lot of the Château Marmont. The Donda Academy founder is a regular at the 5-star hotel where A-listers in Hollywood often reside. Photos taken and shared online show the chrome-plated luxury vehicle being placed on the back of a tow truck and taken away. One hotel staff member could be seen standing by while the Maybach was being strapped onto the truck. The reason behind the seizure remains unknown. However, the Daily Mail reports that the Château Marmont is known for having a limited parking space problem. It could have been an illegal parking situation or a more serious issue, such as repossession of the luxury vehicle, which is reportedly worth around $450,000. West's camp is yet to address the incident, and the towing company hasn't responded to requests for comments. Hours after the incident, West received an unlikely visitor in the person of Christian Combs. The son of disgraced rapper Diddy was photographed with his entourage outside the Château Marmont. Per the publication, the 27-year-old looked in good spirits, donning a red shirt with camouflage three-quarter shorts. In one image, Christian was seen making a call, but West was not pictured during the meeting. Amid his vocal support for the Bad Boys Records founder, Ye often offers public encouragement to Diddy's son. The pair seems to have formed a bond, sharing a hug outside the courthouse last week. In the March 2025 song, "Lonely Roads Still Go To Sunshine," the incarcerated rapper appreciated West for his support, saying: "I just wanna thank you so much for just taking care of my kids, man. 'Cause ain't nobody reach out to me." West backed his support with action when he unexpectedly showed up at Diddy's sex trafficking trial last Friday. Causing quite the scene, he arrived with Christian, dressed in an all-white ensemble and black sunglasses. Ye, as he is fondly called, even stopped to shake hands with a fan before heading inside the Manhattan federal courthouse. When asked by reporters if he was there to support Diddy, the former husband of Kim Kardashian answered "yes." Unfortunately, West was restricted to watching the trial on a TV screen in one of the overflow rooms. According to reports, the "Gold Digger" rapper wasn't listed among the approved names of Diddy's family and friends allowed to be in the trial. It seems that prompted him to leave the court less than an hour after his arrival. West's unexpected appearance sparked backlash, with 50 Cent being one of the most vocal critics. The "Candy Shop" rapper, known for his trolling expertise, shared an A.I. image mocking the Yeezy founder. Trying to imitate West's outfit, the doctored image showed 50 Cent in an all-white suit ensemble. In the accompanying caption, 50 Cent took a jab at his colleague's wife, Bianca Censori, referencing the obscene outfit she wore to the Grammys. "We are wearing white in honor of the freak offs. Damn Ye, you should have brought your dirty little wife with that Grammys outfit! @50centaction," it read. Before West's New York appearance, he had been holed up at a high-end wellness facility in Mallorca, Spain, sources say. As The Blast reported, the "Can't Tell Me Nothing" artist and Censori have been retreating at The Balance Rehab Clinic for a reported fee of $170,000 per week. The luxury wellness center is described as "a safe haven where you can find recovery, peace, rest, and happiness" on its official website. Insiders say the couple's stay is linked to a wrongful termination lawsuit filed against West by former employee Benjamin Provo. "He's bleeding money and credibility," a source alleged. "He needs to prove to fans and the corporate partners he has left that he was off his rocker when spewing such filth and going to rehab seems like just what the doctor ordered – literally."
