Michelle Wie West Alludes to Golfer's Mental Health with a Statement
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In golf, numbers often define everything. Starting from rankings, earnings, cuts, wins, distance and whatnot! But for many pros, those numbers can quietly erode joy. Just ask Lexi Thompson, an 11-time LPGA winner who announced her partial retirement last year, citing mental health struggles. And after doing so, Thompson has looked visibly lighter, happier and healthier, even as she played partially. Even PGA Tour pros have expressed similar sentiments, including Viktor Hovland and Max Homa. That same emotional clarity echoed this week from Michelle Wie West, who retired from full-time LPGA competition in 2022. (Photo by) More In a bold and deeply personal Instagram Reel posted on Saturday, Wie West joined a trending audio clip that says, "Hey, you look happier." And her response, "Thanks, my entire self-worth isn't attached to my golf scores anymore," combined with a montage of joyful moments, just triggered the mental struggle golfers go through in each tournament. In the caption of her Reel, she wrote: "I don't care about bogeys anymore. I care that my kids are happy, healthy, and kind. That's the new leaderboard. 🥹🫶" The post resonated widely with professionals. Even Jessica Korda, Nelly Korda's elder sister, commented, "This ^^^^," while CBS' Amanda Balionis added, "Why is this making me smile so big?" Wie West, now 35, has long been candid about the toll professional golf took on her. "When you're a pro... that's your identity," she said in a 2022 interview. "That's what you live, eat, and breathe 24/7." But her recent appearance at the Travelers Championship Pro-Am alongside Amanda Balionis and Kira K. Dixon showed a different side, one that still loves the game, but no longer lets it define her. (Photo by) More Getty Images Her Saturday message isn't isolated. Many LPGA players have spoken about the emotional weight of the sport. Thompson, during her U.S. Women's Open press conference, admitted, "It can be exhausting to maintain a smile on the outside while grappling with struggles on the inside". She added, "Unfortunately in golf, you lose more than you win... it's hard. I will say, yes, I've struggled with it." And it's not just the women's game. Rory McIlroy, one of the most scrutinized players in the world, has repeatedly skipped post-round interviews to avoid saying something he might regret. After a rough Saturday at the 2025 U.S. Open, he finally addressed the media, saying, "It's more a frustration with you guys", referring to the press. In a sport where silence often masks struggle, Michelle Wie West's post wasn't just a trend, but a reminder that golfers are first humans. And it's ok to take a break from the pressure of leaderboard counts. More Golf: Tiger Woods Rumors: The PGA Tour Legend Wedding on Horizon with Vanessa Trump

Hall of Fame QB Thinks Aaron Rodgers is Still Elite: ‘Arguably One of the Best Arms of All Time'
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 20, 2024. -- Ed Thompson / Steelers Now Many are of the belief that Aaron Rodgers is washed, especially considering that he turns 42 in December, but NFL legend Peyton Manning thinks the four-time league MVP quarterback can still play at an elite level and lead a team to a Super Bowl. 'I think so,' Manning said at the Golden Bear Pro-Am in Ohio last week when asked if Rodgers could play championship football. 'Look, the guy's super talented, probably has arguably one of the best arms of all-time. He's just kind of elastic. I don't have any insight on that, hopefully he gets with a team soon and kind of gets going. It'll be fun to see him back on the field.' Advertisement Last season with the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also had a 90.5 quarterback ratting. In comparison, Russell Wilson threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions with a 95.6 quarterback rating last season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson played in 11 regular season games compared to Rodgers' 17. Rodgers could probably get the Steelers to 9-10 wins and a playoff berth, but a Super Bowl run seems very unlikely. The Steelers have been waiting on a decision from Rodgers for over two months, and according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the four-time league MVP quarterback hasn't made a verbal commitment to the organization. Advertisement 'I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming,' Pelissero said during an appearance on theRich Eisen Show on Friday. '… There's all these signs that he's coming but he has not affirmatively said 'Hey, June 9 book me the ticket. I'm coming in and I'm going to join this team.' That has not happened as of this point.' All signs point to Rodgers eventually signing with the Steelers, as the 41-year-old QB dropped a major hint earlier this month. During a concert on May 17 in Austin, Texas with his friend and artist, Mike Stud, Rodgers held a Q&A with the crowd. At one point during the session, a girl asked him if he would ever play for the Chicago Bears. Rodgers replied, 'No. But I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago this year, a road trip to Chicago. I love Chicago, though, way more than they love me. It's been a great relationship all one way.' Advertisement The Steelers play the Bears in Week 12 at Soldier Field. The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints also both play at Chicago this season, but they're not considered clear-cut favorites to land Rodgers like the Steelers. Rodgers even shut down the idea of playing for the Saints. Rodgers was later asked if he would sign with the Steelers, and he gave a rather ambiguous answer. 'You never know,' Rodgers said. Dan Marino Questions Aaron Rodgers' Mindset: ‘You Gotta Have Someone That Really Wants to Play There'
Former Pitt quarterback and Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino weighed in on the Aaron Rodgers saga during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday morning. 'I still think Aaron has some game,' Marino told Joe Starkey of 93.7 The Fan. 'He does. He can throw it as good as anybody that ever has thrown the football. If his mind's into it and he's ready to go and that works. I don't think it would be an issue with the Steelers. Advertisement 'But you gotta have someone that really wants to play there. And he's getting older. So I don't know what his mindset is. But he does still have talent.' The Pittsburgh Steelers have remained patient with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, and that will likely continue a little while longer. But ESPN insider Dan Graziano revealed there is a deadline that the Steelers would look to move on. Advertisement 'If Rodgers is not there by the time they go to training camp in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, [in] late July, then I think that's when the Steelers start to look at other options,' Graziano said on ESPN's SportsCenter. 'As of now, we are just waiting on Aaron Rodgers.' Pittsburgh has done its best to put some pressure on Rodgers to make a decision. President Art Rooney II said at the NFL owners meetings in March that the team will 'not wait forever' for Rodgers and he reiterated last month that his stance hasn't changed. Peyton Manning's viral golf moment left Scottie Scheffler laughing and Eli mocking
Peyton Manning's viral golf moment left Scottie Scheffler laughing and Eli mocking Four! Four! Peyton Manning was paired with Scottie Scheffler at the Golden Bear Pro-Am in Ohio last week, and the former quarterback had an embarrassing moment on one of his tee shots. Soon after Manning struck the ball in a now-viral video, he said, "Four! Four!" Immediately after that, there's a loud crashing sound. His shot apparently hit a house. Scheffler couldn't help but laugh. Peyton's brother, Eli Manning, saw the video on social media and offered a sarcastic tweet: "I'm so proud!!" This isn't the first time Manning has gone viral for a mishap on the golf course. Last summer, Manning topped his opening tee shot at the BMW Championship pro-am in Castle Pines. After his shot went about 15 yards, the good-natured Manning asked the crowd, "Anyone see where that went?" He's a five-time NFL MVP and a two-time Super Bowl champion, but Manning's clearly still working on his golf game. Everyone's human. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Scottie Scheffler couldn't contain himself after Peyton Manning's tee shot struck house
Peyton Manning wasn't always this inaccurate. During Workday's Golden Bear Pro-Am event during the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio, the NFL legend's tee shot on the first hole veered way off course — so off course that Manning's ball struck a nearby house. Scottie Scheffler, the world's No. 1 golfer according to the PGA rankings, witnessed the ordeal and couldn't contain his laughter as a result of the incident. Advertisement In the video, Manning is seen shouting 'Fore!' multiple times before the ball makes contact with the house with a loud bang, prompting Scheffler to keel over in laughter. Scheffler was heard saying, 'Good morning, sir,' as Manning backed up from the tee, laughing at his dubious swing.
