Sam Surridge, Joe Willis lead Nashville over DC United 1-0 to up unbeaten run to 13

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sam Surridge scored his league-leading 16th goal on a penalty kick in the first half and Joe Willis made it stand up as Nashville SC extended its unbeaten run to 13 matches with a 1-0 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night. Surridge, who had a hat trick on Wednesday in a 3-2 win over the New England Revolution, scored in the 18th minute to give him a goal in a club-record six straight matches. Hany Muhktar had five in a row in 2022. The PK was awarded after Mukhtar was fouled by Lucas Bartlett. Advertisement Sam Surridge has a three-goal lead over the Philadelphia Union's Tai Baribo in the race for the Golden Boot Award. Willis had one save in posting his sixth clean sheet of the season for Nashville (11-4-5), which can tie the club record for longest unbeaten run when it hosts Baribo and the Union on Saturday. Luis Barraza saved one shot for DC United (4-10-6). Both keepers' saves came in the first half. Nashville has climbed to third place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind FC Cincinnati and two behind the Union. DC United will host Atlanta United on Saturday. ___ AP soccer: The Associated Press

England vs Germany: How to watch the U21 Euros final tonight

England have the chance to win back-to-back European Under-21 Championships tonight when they take on old rivals Germany in the final. A year after Gareth Southgate's Three Lions failed to bring football home, Lee Carsley's Young Lions have the chance to make their own history and win a fourth U21 Euros title. England nearly suffered an early exit after winning just one of their group games but have found their form in the knockouts, beating Spain and the Netherlands. Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott has been their star man, attracting much transfer interest following a 'Messi-esque' performance in the semi-finals. The two finalists have already met at the tournament, with Germany winning 2-1 in the final game of Group B, with the Young Lions out for revenge against their old enemy. Germany may be the favourites however, having won all five of their games en-route to the final, with Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade leading the Golden Boot race with six goals. Here's everything you need to know about the U21 Euros final, including kick-off time, how to watch the match on TV and team news: The European Under-21 Championship final between England and Germany kicks-off tonight at 8pm UK time. The tournament is taking place in Slovakia, with the final being held at the National Football Stadium in Bratislava. In the UK, the final will be broadcast live on Channel 4 with their coverage beginning at 7.30pm. Alternatively, you can stream the action live on the Channel 4 website or the All4 app. Carsley has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the final and is expected to name the same 4-3-3 that beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday. Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri started the group game against Germany but will very likely be benched again for former Gunners academy star Omari Hutchinson. Germany have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the final with centre-back Max Rosenfelder ruled out after picking up a muscle injury just 11 minutes into the semi-final victory over France. England: Beadle, Hinshelwood, Quansah, Cresswell, Livramento, Scott, Anderson, Hutchinson, McAtee, Elliott, Stansfield Germany: Atubolu, Collins, Oermann, Arrey-Mbi, Brown, Nebel, Martel, Reitz, Knauff, Woltemade, Weiper Yes, the Young Lions have won the tournament three times in 1982, 1984 and 2023, while they also reached the final in 2009, losing to Germany. England – 13/10 Germany – 7/5 Odds courtesy of Betfair The squad two years ago included the likes of Elliott, Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Noni Madueke, Anthony Gordon and Jarrad Branthwaite. More Trending England won every game at the tournament without conceding a goal, with Cutis Jones scoring the winner in the final against Spain, where James Trafford famously saved a penalty in the last minute of the match. Germany have also won the U21 Euros three times, most recently in 2021 with a side featuring Liverpool's new £116million signing Florian Wirtz. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Salary over half-a-billion, ownership stake, 38m sign-on fee: Cristiano Ronaldo's new Al Nassr contract details

Jun 27, 2025 05:32 PM IST Cristiano Ronaldo signed a new two-year contract extension with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, following weeks of speculation over his future. After the official confirmation, the club also posted a teaser video with Ronaldo walking along a beachfront and stating, 'Al Nassr forever' Al Nassr's Cristiano Ronaldo reacts during a match.(REUTERS) Ronaldo is already 40-years-old now and his Saudi Arabia adventure hasn't exactly gone according to plan. Al Nassr has also missed out on AFC Champions Elite qualification for this season and the Portugal international had also hinted at an exit. But now it looks like he will end his career with Al Nassr. According to a report by The Sun, Ronaldo has also received a signing-on fee of 24.5 million pounds, which will increase to 38 million pounds if he remains in the second year of his contract. According to The Sun report, he will also be earning 178 million pounds each year in wages, which is 488,000 pounds per day. Ronaldo will earn 492 million pounds, which could go up to over half a billion pounds if he triggers his bonuses of 4 million pounds (for winning the Golden Boot) and 8 million pounds if Al Nassr win the title. The report also mentions that Ronaldo has been given a 15 percent ownership stake in the club, which is worth 33 million pounds. Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 2022 after leaving Manchester United. The move made him the highest-paid athlete in the world and he has also topped the list for the last three years, according to Forbes. Ronaldo's tenure with the club saw them miss out on major trophies, and they only bagged the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023. Al Nassr finished in second position in the league in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, and also came third in the previous campaign. 'I've been linked with Man Utd transfer – it would be a dream come true to join'

Manchester United have been linked with a move for one lesser-known name who just topped the goal charts in his division and has said it would be a "dream" to join the Red Devils Genk hitman Tolu Arokodare has said it would "mean a lot" to join Manchester United amid speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford. The Nigeria international has made waves after the highest-scoring season of his career to date and is now attracting attention from the big leagues. An outstanding 2024/25 campaign saw him net 23 goals in 45 appearances for Genk to capture United's attention. The Red Devils appear to be on the verge of signing Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo but seem eager to continue reinforcing their attacking options. ‌ Ruben Amorim made a swift start to his first summer in England by wrapping up a £62.5million move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. And United look set to spend a similar fee bringing Mbeumo to the Theatre of Dreams. ‌ Arokodare, 24, boasted an impressive tally of 30 direct goal contributions this season, an average of two in every three games. And to make United's job easier, he revealed his long-held admiration for the club and his aspiration to compete in the Premier League. "Obviously, it's a dream to play in the Premier League, but I have my eyes on it for sure," he told Sports Boom (via the Manchester Evening News). "Whatever options I have, I'll take my time and make the best decision. "I'm a Manchester United fan, and if it happens, it would mean a lot to me and my family. Of course, it would be a dream come true." Since his arrival at Genk in January 2023, Arokodare has amassed 40 goals in 108 appearances, along with 12 assists. And after taking some time to find his feet in the Pro League, he now looks like an asset capable of completing another step up in his career. Only Sint-Truiden forward Adriano Bertaccini matched Arokodare for goals scored this season. However, Genk's leading man pipped his peer to the Pro League's Golden Boot after racking up more assists. ‌ Amorim is clear in his mission to improve United's array of attacking options after a dismal 2024/25 campaign up front. The 44 goals scored marked the club's lowest goal tally in the Premier League era, not to mention their worst finish on record after placing 15th. Rasmus Hojlund failed to inspire as United's go-to frontman and looked out of his depth at times despite showing promise in the past. And Joshua Zirkzee, who arrived from Bologna for £36.5million last summer, had a stuttering debut season before his campaign was effectively ended by injury in April. ‌ The arrival of Cunha and possibly Mbeumo strengthens their depth in attack, but Arokodare would present a different presence altogether. The relative unknown boasts a surprising turn of pace considering he stands at 6'5" tall and would offer Amorim a more traditional target man capable of imposing himself on opposition defences. That being said, Arokodare also veers from the standard hold-up play in that he likes to drop into the wider channels to open up space for his team-mates. And it appears that if United like what they see, he'd do his bit to make the move happen.
