Sydney Sweeney Swaps Out Her Signature Blonde Hair For a Divisive '80s Style
Sydney Sweeney swapped out her signature golden blonde waves for an edgy, punk rock-inspired hair transformation on Monday, June 9. In a photoshoot for a W cover story, the Euphoria star showed off a mullet hair style with an ultra-teased crown. Sweeney paired the new hairstyle with a divisive '80s beauty Sweeney had fans doing a double take as she ditched her signature bombshell waves for a punk rock hair transformation. Posing for the cover of W Magazine's Summer Issue, the Euphoria actress flexed her acting range by playing several different characters for the spread—and Sweeney leaned into '80s glamour showing off a mullet with an ultra-teased crown that she paired with one of the era's most divisive beauty trends. Sweeney looked almost recognizable in the cover shot, which showed her dressed in a form-fitting sleeveless aquamarine dress with a white 'Golden Girl' sash slung across her chest. Her blonde locks were styled in a voluminous bouffant hairstyle with most of her hair teased high on her head and wisps of shoulder-length hair at the back. Gazing straight at the camera, Sweeney accentuated her features with electric icy blue matte eyeshadow paired with thick black eyeliner and frosted lips. It appears that the '80s theme was a nod to Sweeney's 26th birthday, where the star threw herself a belated prom themed to the decade. 'I actually didn't go to my prom, but on my 26th birthday, I threw myself a 1980s prom, and it was so much fun,' she told the publication. 'I rented out the venue and put streamers and disco balls everywhere. I built a cool disco stage and had letterman jackets that you could customize. I had an old-school photo booth and a caricature artist. I made my grandma the prom queen and my lawyer the prom king.' Sweeney also revealed that she had a short custom pink ruffled dress made for the occasion. While the mullet and eyeshadow was a beauty 180 from the Echo Valley star's go-to blonde waves and natural glam, it looks like it was a temporary transformation. Sweeney brought back her long blonde locks for a retro-inspired photo showing her wearing a red-and-white striped helmet with a matching plunging bra, matching tights, and a pair of red hot pants. Meanwhile, in other photos, she took beauty inspiration from the '60s with a voluminous half-up bob, abstract flower power-inspired eye makeup, and a colorful long-sleeved graphic dress. New Iowa Falls museum opens to honor local veterans
IOWA FALLS, Iowa — The Iowa Falls Historical Society has opened the Heartland Military Museum in downtown Iowa Falls. The new museum will have stories of local veterans who served in numerous wars and conflicts. One Iowa Falls native is referred to as the World War II Golden Girl. Her name is Helen 'Polly' Paulson Glyer. She was a Red Cross Nurse taking care of troops in World War II in Europe. She was known to play her violin to the troops. She was able to travel to various places in the war to help people. She had a jacket with the logo 'Blonde Bomber.' 'I would say she's a spitfire and then she was really good with people and very knowledgeable and beautiful woman and so I think the troops enjoyed just even looking at her,' said Celine Anderson, who is the Heartland Military Museum co-curator. It was donated to Iowa Falls by her son in California. There was also another World War II collection donated by Chuck Taylor of Iowa Falls. So when the building at 313 Stevens came up for rent, the Historical Society jumped at the chance to open a new museum. 'We looked some various locations in Iowa Falls, nothing seemed to work and then this building came up for rent on a weekend in late May and we brought Chuck in here and he looked at it for about 10 minutes and said I think this will work,' said Dave Gervich, a museum volunteer, and member of the Iowa Falls Historical Society. 'The city of Iowa Falls stepped in, the city council, and agreed to pay the rent for three years because they felt it would be a tourism attraction.' JB Pritzker, in a text exchange with Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza, expressed concerns about Mayor Brandon Johnson's ability to keep United Airlines' headquarters in Chicago, another stark shot from the governor amid his ongoing friction with the mayor. The back-and-forth between the two statewide public officials occurred last month as rumors were reignited that the prominent airline company might move to Denver because of a recent property purchase near that city's airport. Pritzker stressed the importance of ensuring Johnson did not do anything to 'push them out' in the text conversation, which the Tribune obtained through a Freedom of Information request. While ego matches between Chicago mayors and Illinois governors are nothing new, they can at times be a political liability for the two leaders occupying those seats. New USPS stamps to honor military branches, historic battlefields
The United States Postal Service has unveiled several new stamps celebrating our military branches and key battlefields of the American Revolution. The first-day-of-issue ceremony for 15 of the new stamps, titled Battlefields of the American Revolution, will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War. They memorialize five turning points in the fight through water color paintings and photographs. Derry Noyes, an art director for USPS, designed the stamps, with illustrations by Greg Harlin and photographs by Jon Bilous, Richard Lewis, Tom Morris, Gregory J. Parker and Kevin Stewart. The Battlefields of the American Revolution stamps are being issued as Forever stamps and will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate. Their debut is scheduled for April 16th. Each of the stamps features the official emblems of each of the military branches. The USPS did not say when these new stamps would be available for purchase.
