Donald Trump savaged for 'ruining Chelsea moment' in Club World Cup final
Football enthusiasts have blasted US President Donald Trump for overshadowing Chelsea's Club World Cup triumph by joining them on stage during their victory moment. Chelsea were crowned world champions following a stunning 3-0 victory over Champions League holders PSG, with Cole Palmer netting twice and Joao Pedro adding another. Enzo Maresca's squad put on a formidable display to defeat the tournament favourites, who had previously demolished Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final and crushed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals of this event. And as Chelsea players made their way to the stage to lift their trophy and enjoy a moment for the history books, President Trump decided to join them for their celebrations. The 79-year-old was present to hand over the trophy to captain Reece James - as well as giving the Golden Glove award to Robert Sanchez - but was supposed to leave the stage after carrying out his duties, with even FIFA president Gianni Infantino persuading him to step away. But Trump simply stood there and smiled as baffled Chelsea players muttered some words to him - with man of the match Palmer appearing to say: "What's he doing?" Fans weren't impressed after the game as one wrote on Twitter : "Ruined the moment. Pictures of them lifting the CWC will always show Trump." Another called Trump "the least respectful president in modern history", adding: "Infantino was clearly trying to get him off the field, but he hijacked the moment and didn't let Chelsea's players enjoy their victory." A third fan added: "Trump ruining the moment for Chelsea by making it about him and standing in front of Cole Palmer... classic." Palmer was clearly irked by Trump's presence on stage and was asked about the outspoken politician after the game. He said: "I knew he was going to be here, but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused." Captain James added: "I wasn't expecting him to lift the trophy with us, but I guess it shows just how big the tournament is. He just congratulated me and the team and told us to enjoy the moment."

Donald Trump's message that left Chelsea stars baffled revealed by lip reader
Chelsea became champions of the world with a stunning 3-0 win over PSG in the Club World Cup final that banked them a huge prize fund, but their celebrations on stage were overshadowed by Donald trump Donald Trump told Cole Palmer he was a "big fan" of his while on stage as Chelsea celebrated their Club World Cup triumph, according to a lip-reading expert. The Blues were crowned world champions on Sunday evening after their incredible 3-0 win over PSG, who were the favourites coming into the game after they won the Champions League and thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals. But Chelsea put together an impressive game plan to stifle PSG's threat and dismantle them. Cole Palmer bagged a brace while new signing Joao Pedro was also on the scoresheet. Chelsea are said to have bagged around £97m after going all the way in the US tournament, building on their UEFA Conference League triumph earlier in the summer. So it was a cause for huge celebration as they took to the stage to lift the trophy of the inaugural version of the revamped tournament at the MetLife Stadium this weekend. US President Trump had also taken to the stage as he presented captain Reece James with the cup, but players were left baffled when the outspoken politician refused to leave for the trophy lift. Match-winner Palmer looked visibly irked as he appeared to say: "What's he doing?" to his team-mates as Trump was seen speaking to James and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Earlier on, Trump had handed Sanchez his Golden Glove award and also gave Palmer his Golden Ball prize, with the two exchanging words after being introduced by Fifa chief Gianni Infantino. Lip-reading expert Jeremy Freeman told the Daily Mail that Trump told Palmer: "Chelsea's biggest fan. I'm a big fan of you. So well done you." It's claimed Palmer simply replied: "Thank you" before joining the rest of his team-mates on stage. It was also claimed that James had asked Trump's permission to lift the trophy, with Palmer opposing the decision and saying: "No, no just wait, wait... wait... wait." But Trump insisted: "Oh yeah we can, good!" before Chelsea started their celebrations. Freeman also said Sanchez's conversation with Trump involved him asking the president: "Please sir, want us to lift the trophy next to you?" with Trump giving his approval. Palmer was asked about Trump's presence in a press-conference after the game, as he said: "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy so I was a bit confused, yeah.' Trump's decision has been slammed by fans, who accused him of overshadowing Chelsea's celebrations and "making it about himself", but captain James said he had no problem with it. Revealing what the president said to him, he added: "I wasn't expecting him to lift the trophy with us, but I guess it shows just how big the tournament is. He just congratulated me and the team and told us to enjoy the moment."

2025 FIFA Club World Cup Team of the Tournament
Following the conclusion of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, we've put together our Team of the Tournament from the summer's action. Goalkeeper: Robert Sanchez – Chelsea Robert Sanchez has had his critics at Chelsea but a strong summer should ensure he keeps the number one shirt at Stamford Bridge. Sanchez claimed the Golden Glove award and was outstanding in the final win over Paris Saint-Germain, preventing 1.66 xG. Right-back: Achraf Hakimi – Paris Saint-Germain The finest full-back in world football right now, Hakimi continued on from his stellar Champions League campaign with some trademark all-action performances. He scored twice and provide two assists for runners-up PSG. Advertisement Centre-back: Trevoh Chalobah – Chelsea From outcast to central cog at Chelsea. Trevoh Chalobah remains a hugely underrated part of Enzo Maresca's squad and had a tournament to remember in the knockout rounds. He had the highest pass completion at the tournament, and was dribbled past just once at the Club World Cup. It's been a remarkable 12 months for the defender. Centre-back: Thiago Silva – Fluminense Fluminense were the surprise package of the tournament to reach the semi-finals. Thiago Silva provided evergreen class in central defence, with the 40-year-old marshalling the Brazilian side to the final four. Class is indeed permanent. Left-back: Nuno Mendes – Paris Saint-Germain A tough final should not overshadow what was a good tournament for PSG's flying full-back. Up and down, all game, every game. The Portugal international is a force. Advertisement Midfield: Moisés Caicedo – Chelsea Chelsea's Player of the Year was important as ever in the US, bringing the bite and tenacity to Enzo Maresca's midfield. Combining intelligent decision-making with dynamism, he was at the centre of Chelsea's success. Midfield: Vitinha – Paris Saint-Germain The conductor of the Paris Saint-Germain side. Vitinha's mix of energy and tempo-setting distribution is the centrepiece of Luis Enrique's side. That Chelsea were able to disrupt his rhythm was a key part in deciding the final. Midfield: Cole Palmer – Chelsea Cole Palmer was named Player of the Tournament with a man-of-the-match final performance helping him earn the crown. Advertisement Two brilliant goals and an assist did the damage against PSG, as the 22-year-old enhanced his reputation as a player for the big occasion. His ability to toy with the best club side in world football right now was remarkable. Right-wing: Jhon Arias – Fluminense Expect European clubs to push for Jhon Arias this summer. The 27-year-old was a livewire during Fluminense's run to the semi-finals, with darting runs and adventurous dribbling tormenting opposition sides. A pleasure to watch. Left-wing: Pedro Neto – Chelsea Pedro Neto managed just four goals during a mixed first Premier League season with Chelsea, but netted three in just six games at the Club World Cup. Advertisement Adding end product to his electric pace, he was a key part of the Chelsea attack. The Portugal international put in superb defensive shift in the final win over PSG, helping to nullify the threat of Achraf Hakimi. Forward: Gonzalo García – Real Madrid One of the breakout stars of the tournament, Gonzalo Garcia earned a share of the Golden Boot after scoring four goals. The Spaniard had never started a game for Real Madrid before the tournament but has now catapulted himself into Xabi Alonso's plans for the upcoming season. Reported plans to sign an out-and-out forward are likely to be shelved. Enzo Maresca told to replace Chelsea star after Club World Cup final
Enzo Maresca was told to replace a Chelsea Club World Cup winner moments after the Blues beat PSG in the final. Chelsea, who finished fourth in the Premier League last season, were the underdogs going into the final against a PSG team who won their first Champions League in May. But the Blues caused a huge shock at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, storming to a 3-0 win thanks to three first-half goals. Cole Palmer scored a quickfire brace with two neat finishes past Gianluigi Donnarumma before Joao Pedro, who only joined Chelsea two weeks ago, added a third on the stroke of half-time. The Club World Cup win was another hugely encouraging sign for a Chelsea side that qualified for the Champions League last season while winning the Europa Conference League. Chelsea have already bolstered Maresca's squad with several summer signings, including the aforementioned Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens. The Blues have also expressed interest in signing a new goalkeeper and John Obi Mikel believes Robert Sanchez must be replaced despite helping Chelsea win the Club World Cup. Sanchez not only lifted the Club World Cup trophy on Sunday evening but also the Golden Glove award, given to the standout goalkeeper over the course of the tournament. 'People might say we had an easy draw but you still have to beat what is in front of you and we did that,' Obi Mikel told DAZN after Chelsea's victory over PSG. 'We got to the final and we absolutely destroyed PSG. Not only winning this trophy but the money we will get from this will help the club massively in terms of FFP.' Wales legend Gareth Bale then interjected by asking: 'Who are they going to buy next?! They can't sign a goalkeeper because he had a great game.' But Obi Mikel, a regular critic of Sanchez, added: 'No, no, no, we are still buying a goalkeeper. 'I'm still not convinced with Sanchez at all but let's give him credit, he had a great game today, I'll give him that. 'I still believe we need a top, top goalkeeper. Sanchez a had brilliant game but going into new season, with the Premier League and Champions League, you still need a top goalkeeper. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'This should give him good confidence ahead of the new season and hopefully we see a new Sanchez next season. 'But healthy competition is important and we've seen that with the signing of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.' Bale was then asked if he was also of the opinion that Chelsea needed to sign a new goalkeeper. 'It's the manager's decision,' he said. 'I don't think it's bad to have healthy competition and if they sign a new goalkeeper they can battle it out. More Trending 'We've seen teams in the past have two great goalkeepers. We had it at Real Madrid, they used to swap sometimes and it creates a fight for that place and keeps everyone on their toes. 'I don't see it as a bad thing to try and get another keeper.' Chelsea tried to sign France No. 1 Mike Maignan earlier in the summer but talks with AC Milan broke down. The Blues, who begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on August 17 against Crystal Palace, have recently been linked with a shock move for PSG's Donnarumma.
