Poll: Does your Pixel phone also miss alarms?

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR Pixel phone users are experiencing a recurring bug in which their alarms fail to go off for an 'unknown reason.' This alarm bug has been reported on Pixel phones since at least 2021, and Google has reportedly been unable to replicate or fix it. As a workaround, users can use alternative alarm apps, or even physical alarm clocks. Over the weekend, frustrated users took to Reddit to complain about their Pixel phones' missing alarms. The screenshot shared shows that the alarm did not fire off for an 'unknown reason,' often extending multiple times in a row. Needless to say, this is a rather frustrating bug on its own, but it's aggravated by its unknown reason, making it all the more difficult to reproduce and fix. In fact, this missed alarm bug isn't even new — Pixel 9 users had complained about missing alarms in March 2025, and once you start tracing back reports, you'd realize the missed alarm bug in the Google Clock app has been around since at least 2021! These aren't one-off reports, either. Several users in the most recent Reddit thread said the bug has happened a few times, even on stable versions of Android and the Clock app. One user even claimed that Google couldn't replicate the problem, so there's no fix in sight. Another claimed that it happened to them on a work trip, causing them to miss their flight. Some users suggested that the issue could be with the phone entering battery-saving mode. However, the original poster affirmed that this wasn't the case. Even if it was, the alarm should still go off, even in battery-saving mode. The phone also did not turn off at night, the alarm volume was full, and all DND settings were off, including bedtime mode. We want to ask you: Has your Pixel phone ever missed an alarm? Have you faced this bug? Was your phone in battery-saving mode when it happened? Did you face any loss due to the missed alarm? Has your Pixel phone ever missed an alarm? 0 votes Yes, my Pixel phone has missed a few alarms in the past year. NaN % Yes, my Pixel phone has missed alarms, but not in the past year. NaN % No, my Pixel has never missed any alarms, and I have not faced this bug. NaN % Vote in the poll above and let us know more in the comments! We've contacted Google for comments on this missed alarm bug on Pixels. We'll update this article when the company responds. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . It's about time! Google Clock's latest version rolls out along with Pixel Weather changes

One of the most used native apps on Android just might be the Clock app. Every Android phone has the app and it is often used to set timers and alarms. While it isn't used for long sessions, it is accessed several times a day. Google is in the process of rolling out Google Clock version 7.14. The update continues to make the Timer Starter widget exclusive to Pixel devices (it debuted on the Pixel Tablet before getting added to Pixel phones). The widget is preset with the last three timers you set for your alarm and a "+" button to create a new timer. To place the widget on your Pixel phone long-press on an empty area of screen real estate and on the pop-up that appears, tap on Widgets. Scroll down to Clock and tap on it. Scroll down to Timer Starter. Press on it and a "+Add" button will appear. Tap on the button and the widget will be placed on your Pixel's home screen. You can now start a timer faster with the widget than by using your voice to set one. The Timer Starter widget is available on Pixels only, and the weather condition icons lose color on the Clock app. | Image credit-PhoneArena The Google Clock 7.14 app also uses Material 3 switches in the Alarm tab and the Settings menu list. There is also a minor but noticeable change in the Clock tab. Whether it's your home time zone at the top of the screen or the individual countries you are following, there is a change to the icons showing the current weather conditions. Previously, the weather condition icons were shown in color (for example, the sun would be yellow). Now, all of the current weather condition icons are in gray. They might not stand out as they previously did but on the other hand, they are not as distracting. The Settings menu uses Material 3 in the toggle switches. | Image credit-PhoneArena While the update is rolling out now to those running version 7.14 of the Google Clock app, you can see where you stand by going to Settings > Apps > See all xxx apps > Clock . Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and check the version of the app listed. To reiterate, you want it to be over 7.14. If it is under version 7.14, you can delete the app from your phone and reinstall it from the Play Store with the latest version number by tapping on this link. Google Clock starts drip-feeding its big Material 3 Expressive makeover

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR Google Clock v7.14 brings small but noticeable visual updates to the alarm and settings toggles. The refreshed toggle design is part of Google's shift toward Material 3 Expressive. A full redesign is expected with version 8 of the Clock app. Google's Clock app is still waiting on its big Material 3 Expressive makeover, but a more minor update is already starting to move the visuals in that direction. Version 7.14 of the app introduces some subtle UI tweaks, and you can already check them out. The most obvious change is in the app toggle switches. They've been refreshed with a chunkier, more rounded design, an outline that shows in the off position, and a slightly brighter color scheme. You'll see the new look in the alarm list and the settings menu, giving the app a more modern feel without overhauling the core layout. It's a small tweak, but one that fits neatly into Google's evolving design language. Alarms before redesign Settings before redesign Alarms after redesign Settings after redesign These changes lay the foundations as Google preps a much more dramatic revamp of the Clock app. Back in May, we got a look at the full redesign expected in Version 8, showcasing some of the boldest Material 3 Expressive visuals yet. That version includes oversized fonts, an updated alarm creation panel, redesigned buttons for dismissing alarms, and a wallpaper-based background to replace the old blank canvas. None of those larger changes are live yet, but today's update shows Google is setting the stage. Clock v7.14 may not be a huge leap forward, but we'll keep a close eye out for the complete revamp in future versions. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Upcoming Google Clock redesign shows off Material 3 Expressive at its best

Stephen Schenck / Android Authority TL;DR Google is updating its Clock with some of the boldest Material 3 Expressive changes we've seen so far. The updated app plays with fonts, as well as new UI elements. An alarm can now be dismissed using a button instead of the old slider. As we wait for the announcement of Google's new Material 3 Expressive system at Google I/O, I'm seeing more and more leaks of the new look. So far we've seen the new settings app, the Google account section as well as the new keyboard. None of them seemed very expressive, though. Today, we have another look at more materials from the upcoming design system. Thanks to a source inside Google, I was able to try out the refreshed Google Clock app, which showcases some more significant Material 3 Expressive changes. You're reading an Authority Insights story. Discover Authority Insights for more exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage you won't find anywhere else. The most redesigned part of the app is the alarms tab. Google removed the expanding tabs and instead added a panel sliding from the bottom when editing or adding new alarms. The panel itself also looks interesting — the use of a very tall font, a fun new switch for AM/PM, and a very compressed options layout makes it stand out. Material 3 Expressive Material 3 Enabled alarms are also now highlighted in a way more visible way, which should make it easier to see if they are active at a quick glance. Material 3 Expressive Material 3 Google also got rid of the old swipe-to-dismiss gesture when an alarm goes off, instead opting for simple buttons. It's honestly surprising that the old design lived for so long. The blank background has also been replaced with the phone's wallpaper. Material 3 Expressive Material 3 The timers tab also sees a major redesign. Adding new timers is now done through a panel similar to the alarms. The timer cards are also much smaller, which should make it easier for people who like to use a bunch at once. Material 3 Expressive Material 3 Material 3 Expressive Material 3 Lastly, the stopwatch function has also been updated with much larger buttons, which should make it easier to use. There's a new font here, too. Material 3 Expressive Material 3 I've been using the new Clock for a few days, and the changes are positive. They generally improve the app's experience, and I hope Google makes similar changes throughout the system. Material 3 Expressive is likely to debut at Google I/O later this month.
