Google's Pixel Camera now teaches you how to use all the best features — here's how
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Google has started to roll out a new feature that wants to help you get the most out of your Pixel phone's camera app. With the launch of Android 16 and the recent June 2025 Feature Drop, we've seen Google unveil a bunch of new additions, including a Pixel VIP widget and Google Photos' new editing tools. However, one of the announced features, the 'camera education hub,' didn't go live when the 2025 update was released. But things have started moving as Google Pixel users are gaining access to the feature. The education hub serves as a means to inform users of what their Pixel device's camera can do, through the use of tips and sample shots. To take a look, users only need to tap the new '?' icon that appears in the top right corner of their app. When opened, Google will first present the users with a variety of sample shots to help inform them what each camera mode and option is capable of. There's also a floating button at the bottom of the screen labelled 'Open Camera,' which will instantly take you back to the main camera viewfinder interface. However, while it is always visible while in the education hub, it won't take you to the camera mode you were looking at when you first opened the hub. This is an odd omission, but one I imagine will be patched eventually. Also, while you can find tips relating to the 10-bit HDR video recording, manual lens recording, Pro controls and Locked Folders at the bottom of the screen, there is no mention of Social Share. This would appear to indicate that Google has no intention of returning the feature after it was removed in the recent Feature Drop. This education hub is the kind of feature that I wish we saw more of, as it does a lot for new users of a device. Both the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9a sit as some of the best camera phones on the market, but figuring out how to use some of the camera features can be overwhelming. This is especially true for older users, and the education hub could be a major advantage for them. However, there are some minor annoyances, like the Open Camera button, that need to be solved in future patches. We found that the education hub was available on our Pixel devices, as have other publications, indicating that this is a global rollout. If users are interested in trying this out, you should make sure your Pixel's camera app is updated to the latest version, as the hub will reportedly not show up on releases older than version 9.9. Google is rolling out its AI-powered ‘Ask Photos' search again
Ammon News - After quietly pausing the rollout of Google Photos' AI-powered 'Ask Photos' search tool, Google is now expanding access once again and making some improvements to the feature. Google's Gemini AI models power Ask Photos so that you can ask complex questions to help you find photos. But earlier this month, a member of the Google Photos team said on X that the feature 'isn't where it needs to be, in terms of latency, quality and UX.' In a blog post published Thursday, Google said that it has 'heard your feedback' that the feature should 'return more photos faster for simple searches, like 'beach' or 'dogs.'' Now, 'you'll now see results right away while Gemini models continue to work in the background to find the most relevant photos or information for more complex queries,' according to Google. The company adds that the feature is now 'opening up beyond early access' and is beginning to roll out to more 'eligible users' in the US. The Verge

Google pauses Photos' app AI-powered 'Ask Photos'
has paused the rollout of its experimental "Ask Photos" feature in Google Photos after users complained about slow performance and poor user experience, according to a Google Photos product manager. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Jamie Aspinall, product manager for Google Photos, confirmed the pause on X Tuesday, citing three critical issues: latency, quality, and user experience. "Ask Photos isn't where it needs to be," Aspinall wrote in response to user criticism about the AI-powered search tool. The feature, which uses Google's Gemini AI models to let users search their photo libraries with natural language queries, has been rolling out to a limited number of users since October 2024. Users can ask questions like "Show me the best photo from each national park I've visited" or "What themes have we had for birthday parties?" However, early users reported significant problems. The feature often missed relevant photos, ran painfully slow, and provided an inferior experience compared to Google Photos' traditional keyword search. Some users described the AI search as making "Google Photos worse" overall. Aspinall said the rollout has been paused "at very small numbers" while Google addresses these issues. The company expects to ship an improved version in approximately two weeks that "brings back the speed and recall of the original search." Google first announced Ask Photos at its I/O developer conference in May 2024, positioning it as a major upgrade that would make finding specific memories easier. The feature was designed to understand context and subjects in photos using Gemini's multimodal capabilities, even reading text within images. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This isn't Google's first AI feature pause. The company previously halted AI Overviews in Search after viral mistakes and paused Gemini's image generation tool due to historical inaccuracies. Users who currently have access to Ask Photos can disable it through the app's settings under "Gemini features in Google Photos."
