Save £462 a Google Pixel 9 ahead of the Pixel 10 launch if you don't mind one thing
Ahead of Google's anticipated Pixel 10 launch, the older Pixel 9 phone has dropped in price - especially for shoppers who don't mind pre-loved models The new Google Pixel 10 range launches on August 20, much to the delight of tech fans looking to get their hands on a brand-new smartphone. Ahead of the release, Back Market is offering refurbished Google Pixel 9 phones for up to £460 less than the price of a brand-new option. The second-hand marketplace stocks the device in a variety of colours and conditions, with 128GB and 256GB storage to choose from. The black 128GB 'fair' condition phone has the biggest saving, costing £430 instead of the usual £892.69 price tag for a brand-new Pixel 9. This offers a saving of £462, however shoppers can save even more money on their refurbished device when they trade in their current phone. The 'fair' condition Pixel 9 device has 'visible signs of use' and is also available in pink (£436) or beige (£549). For those who would prefer a refurbished Google Pixel 9 in 'excellent' condition, Back Market is offering the 128GB black smartphone for £479. This option has 'almost no signs of use' and is also available with 256GB storage for £630, making it £269 cheaper than a brand-new Pixel 9 before trading in an old device. Shoppers who would prefer a brand-new Google Pixel 9 can purchase the 128GB device from Amazon for £549 in black, white, pink or green. The smartphone boasts a 6.3-inch display and features Google AI that helps users take 'amazing photos' and 'get things done even more easily'. Very is another retailer offering great deals on new smartphones. The black Apple iPhone 16e 128Gb currently has a £50 discount, reduced from £599 to £549, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is now £499, down from £649. Back Market has received high praise from customers for its refurbished Google Pixel 9 deals. In the reviews section, a satisfied buyer who bought the black 128GB phone in 'excellent' condition rated the device five stars. They shared: "Purchased for my husband and he couldn't believe the sheer quality of his new device. All the more sweeter knowing we are helping the environment. Our third purchase, haven't been let down - far from it. Highly recommend." "I received the phone the next day in mint condition," commented another happy shopper. "I honestly thought it was new. I have been using it for a while now and everything is working great. I have had zero problems. I was really impressed with the service and will be ordering more stuff from here." Unfortunately, one Back Market customer was left unimpressed with how their Google Pixel 9 arrived, as they explained: "I didn't like the way the phone was wrapped. It was loose in a box that was too small for it, wrapped only in a small bubble wrap envelope. If you shook the box before opening it, the phone rattled against the sides of the box. Fortunately the phone is fine and works perfectly." Someone else was thrilled with their 'fair' condition Pixel 9 smartphone. They said: "Product is almost brand new. Battery is wickedly strong. Choosing Back Market was the best decision."

Google giveaway offers free smartwatch and earbuds ahead of Pixel 10 launch
The Pixel 10 is set to be unveiled at the annual Made By Google event on August 20, but these Pixel 9 deals may too good to miss. Google has confirmed when it will unveil the new Pixel 10 smartphone, but the tech giant's latest giveaway may tempt shoppers into sticking with the current model. Google's annual Made by Google event is set for August 20 in New York City, where it will showcase its latest Pixel devices, including phones, watches and earbuds. Ahead of the event, the Pixel 9 range has dropped to a record low price as retailers tempt shoppers into picking up the 2024 model. One of our favourite deals comes from Currys-backed retailer which is handing out free Google gadgets with orders of the Google Pixel 9. Customers can get their hands on Pixel Buds A Series, Pixel Buds Pro 2 and a Pixel Watch 3 when signing up for select 24-month contracts. The Pixel Buds A are bundled in with a choice of plans, including iD Mobile's £24.99 per month deal, alongside 100GB of data for a £59 upfront cost. There's also the option to increase the monthly cost to £27.99 to lower the upfront cost to £9. However, this works out at £22 more expensive over the life of the plan. For the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, a standout package is the iD Mobile £28.99 plan, with £9 upfront for 100GB of data. Those preferring a free Pixel Watch 3 (41mm) can opt for iD Mobile's £28.99 plan, offering 100GB with a £59 upfront cost. The free gift with each package will be delivered with the handset to the address provided at the checkout, however the deal is only available while stocks last. It's worth noting that iD Mobile – like most providers – will increase its prices every April alongside inflation. The company has already set out its changes, with the £24.99 plan rising to £26.49 from April 2026 and £27.99 from 1st April 2027. Taking into account the £59 upfront cost, the total amount paid over 24 months comes to £715.76, but those who prefer to buy the phone outright can currently find a cheaper deal elsewhere. That's because an unlocked Google Pixel 9 256GB has fallen from £899 to £597 at Amazon – a £302 saving. This is the cheapest price ever offered for the handset, according to price tracker camelcamelcamel. Sky Mobile is another option, with the 128GB model now at £21 when spreading the cost, with £12 upfront. However, this comes on a longer 36-month contract and must be purchased with a Sky data plan, ranging from £0 for 100MB to £20 for unlimited. The Google Pixel 9 has earned some rave reviews on Amazon, where it currently boasts a 4.4-star rating. One happy customer said, 'Brilliant. The phone feels quality, and the build is excellent. The transfer of data from a Samsung S21 was simple. The camera is excellent. The OS is less fussy than Samsung.' Another said: 'Good all-round phone. Good, solid case. Clear screen with Android 14 but upgraded to 15. Includes Gemini AI software. Seems intuitive, but only time will tell how useful it is.' However, the same user found a downside, adding: "The only criticism is that there is no SD card slot to increase memory. If you take and store a lot of photos, you will have to keep transferring to another memory medium.' But another five-star review said: 'Excellent product. Has a sleek design and lightweight, lovely features and great value for money. It is also very easy to use.'

Google Pixel 9 Pro hits low prices as hundreds cut off the cost
Now is a great time to snap up a discounted Google Pixel phone Despite being nearly a year old the Google Pixel 9 devices are still a great buy, with some real savings to be made on Google's excellent camera phone. The Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro are both down to their lowest prices, with savings of up to £400 up for grabs. The Pixel 9 family of phones launched in August 2024 and are much lauded for their design, the bright display and powerful camera, while also being the first phones to run Android 16, the latest software from Google. If you're looking to get yourself the Pixel 9 Pro on contract, GiffGaff has slashed £400 off the price. That's for the 128GB model with £20 up front and then monthly payments as low as £18.31 for the handset. With giffgaff, you get to choose whether you pay over 12, 24 or 36 months, so you can pick a payment plan that works for you. Then you choose the data plan, which starts at £10 a month for 25GB data. That can see your payments come out at £28.31 a month, for Google's flagship phone. Note that under this deal, the phone payments are spread over 36-months, while the data plan is 18-months, so you'd be free to choose a new deal on the data after that. The same deal at Sky Mobile - for the 128GB Pixel 9 Pro with 25GB data - would cost £45 a month, with £12 upfront, so GiffGaff is definitely on to something. Alternatively, is offering the Pixel 9 Pro 128GB with 100GB data on ID Mobile for £29.99 a month with £9 upfront on a 24-month contract. Again, it's a great deal. The Pixel 9 Pro is powered by the Tensor G4 processor and benefits from 7 years of software support from Google, meaning that the phone will have all the latest updates through the length of your contract. That's going to include the anticipated update to Material 3 Expressive - Google's new design language - within the coming months. This is a phone that's been built around Google's AI - Gemini - offering a slick and fast experience. But it's the camera that really shines, with a 5x optical zoom lens that really gets you close to the detail. Day or night, the camera produces great photos and if you're not happy, you can edit them with the assistance of AI using Google Photos. You don't just have to buy the Pixel 9 Pro on contract, you can buy the handset SIM-free too - and then take advantage of some great discounted SIM-only deals that are out there. Fortunately, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are down to their lowest price ever, with Amazon knocking £250 off the price of the Pixel 9 and a huge £320 off the Pixel 9 Pro. These prices are the lowest that Google has sold these phones for, with those Prime Day prices continuing. There's no telling how long these deals will last for, with Amazon labelling them as "limited", but Google is running its own sale online which ends on 5 August, while GiffGaff says that its deals run until 10 August. Why might this sale be happening? Because Google is preparing to launch the Pixel 10 family of phones on 20 August according to the Daily Express. A downside being, that the Pixel 9 device will be considered 'outdated in a few weeks time'. However, according to the leaks, it's not expected that there will be huge changes. The design is expected to stay the same as the Google Pixel 9, as are the cameras on the Pixel 10 Pro, while the entry-level Pixel 10 is expected to get an additional zoom camera. Apart from that, they will move to the Tensor G5 hardware, but otherwise expected to have the same display and battery. Unless you really need the latest phone, getting yourself a discounted Pixel 9 Pro could save you money and get you a great phone at the same time.

Phone as slim as the S25 Ultra but with a 10,000 mAh battery coming next year
If you thought that silicon batteries had reached their limits and could go no further, think again. A mid-range phone with a whopping 10,000 mAh battery and thickness to rival the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will be entering the testing phase early next year. This unnamed phone ( translated source ) is likely a result of new strategies that are being developed to combat the limits of silicon batteries. While 7,500 mAh batteries are becoming more common, phone manufacturers want to see just how far they can push these new cells. Recently, the Honor Power debuted with a large 8,000 mAh battery, and the company has already released a new phone with a battery capacity of 8,300 mAh. From a purely numerical perspective, Apple and Samsung have fallen extremely far behind. The idea of an iPhone or Galaxy flagship with a 10,000 mAh battery, let alone an 8,000 mAh battery, is a pipe dream. However, there is a lot more to batteries than you might initially assume, especially when it comes to silicon batteries. A 10,000 mAh phone that's slimmer than 8.5 mm sounds excellent, and it is, but it won't last nearly as long as your iPhone 16, Google Pixel 9, or Samsung Galaxy S25. The Galaxy S25 Ultra kept the same 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessors. | Video credit — Samsung Samsung just announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it keeps the same battery that the Fold 6 had, with a capacity of 4,400 mAh. In my opinion, the Fold 7's battery is pretty good. It's not mind-blowing, but it will be working at much better capacity after a couple thousand charges than its silicon rivals. This approach also complements Samsung's much longer software support cycle, while most Chinese phone manufacturers rely on people upgrading more often. Honor might be going against the grain, however, as the newly-released Magic V5 foldable phone will also get seven years of support. If you change phones often, then silicon batteries are definitely a more enticing option. And a slim phone with a 10,000 mAh battery sounds like a dream come true. Especially if you're against Apple and Samsung's recent approach with the Galaxy S25 Edge and the iPhone 17 Air, which sacrifice battery life for aesthetics. Switch to a 2-month Total 5G or 5G+ plan with Total Wireless and score this foldable deal. We may earn a commission if you make a purchase Check Out The Offer

Forget Apple Intelligence — Nothing Phone's killer AI feature just got better
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. London-based phone maker Nothing has taken a gamble with its latest device, the Nothing Phone 3. By pricing it at $799 and proclaiming it a true flagship, it's going toe-to-toe with established players like the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 — also both $799. Aside from the divisively eye-catching design (I like it, but others may disagree) the standout feature of Nothing's handset is the "Essential Space". You can tell the company thinks the feature is important, because it gets its own hardware button. In theory, Essential Space is a centralized repository of information that can then be indexed and analyzed by AI. What's the Essential Space? Well, it's yet another implementation of AI. Before you groan and stop reading; hear me out. In theory, Essential Space is a centralized repository of information that can then be indexed and analyzed by AI. At the moment, it's bare-bones — screenshots and recordings — but there's a lot of potential there to make it a killer feature. As long as Nothing doesn't start charging for it. For instance, with the Nothing Phone 3, Nothing added a new Flip to Record feature which lets you start a voice note from anywhere (using that hardware button called the "Essential Key") and store it in the Essential Space, where it's transcribed and summarized. Now, Nothing has just announced a major upgrade that includes three new functionalities: Google Calendar integration, Editable Memory, and Essential Recorder. Let's pick through them one at a time. Google Calendar integration is pretty self-explanatory; any task or event created in the Essential space can be automatically synced over to your Google Calendar without you needing to manually do anything. If the AI gets it wrong (if it mis-hears for example) you can still go in and edit the event yourself. That's the "Editable Memory" part — and while I've not seen these features in action myself, I'd hope the AI learns from your edits to make less mistakes in future. Finally, the "Essential Recorder" option takes that Flip to Record feature and takes it to the next level. The AI will turn any recording into an image, PDF or Markdown, that can then be shared anywhere, like a group message or email chain. If you're one of the people that uses a Nothing phone — like my colleague Anthony Spadafora — and you've got auto-update enabled, you won't need to do anything. The Essential Space will update automatically via the Google Play Store. According to Nothing, these updates are live now on Nothing Phone (3), and will come to Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro "soon". AI used the right way AI on phones is something of a tricky sell right now. How much value consumers are actually getting for it isn't fully realised yet. But for my money, Nothing is taking a different approach than just shoe-horning in a bunch of AI overviews around the OS. It's giving users a centralised point of focus for their AI experience with hardware to back it up. It's far from fully realised yet and might not be enough of a reason to tempt people away from a Pixel 9 or Galaxy S25, but I still value the concept. Speaking of the S25, Samsung recently confirmed it would be making its "default" Galaxy AI features free to all users indefinitely while Google's Gemini just got a feature even ChatGPT can't match. The AI arms race on phone features is certainly getting interesting right now. Follow Tom's Guide on Google News to get our up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds.
