‘We just want him back': Cape Town wife pleads with authorities to find missing fisherman
A Cape Town woman is pleading with authorities to find her fisherman husband's body. Jaco Greef was hit by multiple waves and was washed off the rocks. Police are still searching for his body. A heartbroken wife is calling on authorities not to spare any resources to find her husband, who was swept off rocks near Rocky Bay, between Gordon's Bay and the Steenbras River mouth, while fishing with friends on Saturday. Jaco Greef, 44, remains missing at sea while his two friends escaped unharmed. Greef's wife, Monique, is at her wit's end and wants authorities to recover his body so she can find closure. 'I just want my husband's body to be found so I can get some closure, We just have to find him,' a sobbing Monique told News24. She said the last time she saw her husband was on Saturday around 07:00 when he left with his friends to go fishing. 'Never in a million years did I think that would be the last time I saw my husband. My mind has been going crazy because I can't believe he is missing,' said Monique. She added that her husband and his friends went fishing every weekend and had set their sights on a specific spot near Clarence Drive in Gordon's Bay where they would usually catch fish. 'That spot he knew would get lots of fish, but he also knew it wasn't the safest area to fish, and that's why he never went alone.' Monique said there was a rock next to a deep hole where he would sit and fish. 'Multiple waves hit him, he lost his balance and fell inside the hole. It's difficult to get out of the hole.' Monique Greef/Supplied She added daily searches for her husband have been unsuccessful. 'His fishing rod is still inside that hole. I wish his body could be found already. I have been pleading with almost every official I am dealing with to please find my husband. 'This pain is unbearable. Not knowing where he is makes life so difficult for me and my kids.' Monique said a week before her husband disappeared, he celebrated his 44th birthday. The couple have been married for four years. 'On the day he went missing, I told him he must not be too long because I was working nightshift the next day and wanted to spend time with him. 'I told him that we are going to lie in bed the whole Sunday morning because it was going to rain.' Monique also recalled him sending her a detailed map with arrows pointing to where he and his friends sat and fished. 'I constantly look at this map. I get shivers just thinking of this.' She said she constantly contacted the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the police for updates. 'I have been told it is hazardous for divers to get inside that hole because there is no guarantee that they will come out. That scares me because does that mean we will never find my husband?' Monique pleaded with the authorities to spare no resources to find her husband. 'I cannot rest until his body is recovered. I am pleading and begging for anyone who frequents Gordon's Bay's beaches to please keep an eye out for his body,' she said. NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon added after 10:00 on Saturday, its Gordon's Bay duty crew and the City of Cape Town water rescue network were activated following reports of an angler being swept off rocks by waves while fishing. He said various responders, including the Western Cape EMS's rescue helicopter, were activated to find the fisherman. Monique Greef/Supplied 'On arrival at the scene, a search commenced for the missing man. An extensive air, sea and shoreline search, in rough sea conditions, revealed no signs of the missing man,' added Lambinon. He said police divers were tasked to search for Greef. Western Cape police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said Greef was standing on the rocks when he was swept away. 'He could not get out of the water and was swept away. Gordon's Bay SAPS was informed and attended to the scene with the NSRI and the South African Police Service Diving Unit. Gordon's Bay police opened an enquiry about a missing person. The search is ongoing,' added Manyana.

Onlookers capture incredible video as massive sea animal wanders into bustling community far from shore: 'He's huge'
Residents of a South African harbor town were left stunned — and rather charmed — by the unexpected visit of a large sea animal. In a video uploaded to CNN's TikTok account in late May, a massive elephant seal had a grand day out in Gordon's Bay, a harbor town and suburb of Cape Town. After disrupting traffic, "the seal eventually won the hearts" of the locals. Residents named the oversized interloper "Gordon," or "Gordy" for short. After nine hours of effort, the still-growing pup was eventually enticed back to the safety of the sea, having originally traveled a great distance to the residential area. The video's commenters were as enamored with Gordy as the coastal community had been. One simply said, "He's HUGE!" Another swooned, "He's so cute!" A few aspiring comedians weighed in. One postulated, "Imagine being late, then telling your boss 'There was a seal on the road.'" Although presented as a light-hearted piece, the story highlights an important issue that should be a cause for some concern. In this case, nobody was harmed, and no serious property damage occurred. However, other such cases have not ended so well. When threatened, animals can attack people. They can also make off with pets and livestock. In such cases, they can also face euthanasia themselves. Of course, it's possible for a wild animal to randomly wander into a developed community. But human encroachment and habitat destruction are prime drivers of unusual wildlife presence in urban areas. Do you think people should be allowed to keep exotic animals as pets? Yes No It depends on the animal It depends on the person Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Another contributing factor is the disruption of animals' food supplies stemming from rising global temperatures. With heat-trapping pollution upsetting growing patterns and food chains, some hungry animals are forced to venture outside their natural habitats. Polar bears are an example of wildlife that is becoming increasingly common in human settlements for these reasons. Fortunately, elephant seals as a species aren't facing any immediate threats to their long-term survival, but that hasn't always been the case. They were hunted to near extinction for their blubber. Now they are protected under international law. In the big picture, addressing root causes will be key. Human-caused pollution and encroachment are problems with at least a few solutions we could deploy now. But managing human-wildlife encounters often begins close to home. In Gordy's case, the community came together to nudge the seal gently back to sea. Properly addressing more difficult cases will require some planning and deliberate local action. A part of that action could include designating and safeguarding conservation areas for vulnerable animals. Supporting pro-environment policies could help to create preserves aimed at protecting specific species — and the biodiversity on which all living things rely. Jackie ‘O' Henderson spotted out in Sydney with ex NRL star
Jackie 'O' Henderson has sparked romance rumours after she was spotted out with a retired rugby league player. The Sydney radio host, 50, was seen with former Newcastle Knights star Adam Muir, with the pair enjoying a walk at Gordons Bay in the city's east on Sunday in exclusive photos taken by Daily Telegraph. Muir, 53, played NRL in the '90s and early 2000s, and was part of the Knights' 1997 Premiership winning team. He also had a brief stint playing for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The outlet reports Henderson and Muir were introduced recently through mutual friends. The KIIS FM co-host has been single since her 2018 marriage breakdown with ex-husband, Lee Henderson, following 18 years together. Prior to that, the star was married to then co-host Phil O'Neil, aka Ugly Phil, in the 90s. Henderson has made no secret of her desire to find a partner, both on the Kyle and Jackie O Show and her podcast, Her Best Life. Back in May, while interviewing US author and motivational speaker Gabrielle Bernstein on-air, Henderson broke down in tears about her love life. The mother-of-one, who shares 14-year-old daughter Kitty with Lee, confessed she had 'done quite a lot of work on myself' over the years after realising she 'never felt good enough.' When Sandilands asked her why she doesn't think she's 'good enough', she cried, 'I don't know, I'm working on it. I feel like I've been working on it for two and a half years constantly.' Bernstein reassured Henderson that 'everyone is worthy of love.' Henderson hasn't had a public relationship since her divorce. However, the radio host sparked dating rumours in 2023 when she was spotted enjoying a glass of wine on the balcony of her eastern suburbs home with 29-year-old tradesman and model Jack Tyerman. The pair never confirmed reports, with Tyerman later becoming engaged to girlfriend Asha Dillon in December.

She could be seen wearing a matching leather jacket as she exited the $13.25 million oceanfront Gordon's Bay home she lives in with her famous mother. Walking in Jackie's stylish footsteps, Kitty slung a $6,000 crocheted Chanel handbag over her shoulder to complete the look. The lookalike pair could be seen sharing beverages together as they enjoyed their time at the party. It comes after Jackie broke down in tears earlier this month as she admitted she is struggling to let go of an ex. She sobbed as she discussed moving on while appearing on the new episode of Her Best Life podcast. The radio queen told co-host, best friend Gemma O'Neill, she was dealing with heartbreak. Despite being 'over' the relationship, Jackie said in her weaker moments she thinks: 'That's my person.' 'And if he's not going to show up for you, and if he's not going to be that consistent, safe, secure, loving man that you deserve, he doesn't deserve you and any more of your thoughts,' Gemma said. Jackie said she should block the man on social media but cannot because that would mean admitting there was no hope of reconciliation. 'It just feels like you're in this weird, warped way of thinking. And I know I'll look back and go, what was I doing? Why didn't I just block him?' she said. 'But then I think when you do that, it's like you're admitting to yourself, "There is no more. There is no chance. There's no chance now." 'And I think we defer, sometimes, that acceptance, because the acceptance is the painful part. 'Accepting that this is not ever going to be what you hoped it would be, or what you were promised it would be, that's not coming back. 'But to accept that wholly is painful, and it's like I don't want to face the reality, but I think I have to.' Jackie added the man was good to her but ultimately strung her along. 'He wasn't an a***hole. He wasn't a user. He wasn't a d***, you know?' she said. 'Suddenly I started thinking of him... And I thought, why am I thinking of him so much at the moment? Where is this coming from?' The radio star went on to say she was giving herself some more time to let go before fully moving on.

Elephant seal returns to sea after unexpected appearance in town (VIDEOS, PHOTO)
A southern elephant seal has been safely returned to the ocean after wandering through the streets of Gordon's Bay, a coastal town near Cape Town, South Africa. The seal's appearance had prompted a large-scale rescue operation. The young male, estimated to weigh around two tons (4,400 pounds), was first spotted early Tuesday navigating the suburb's streets. Startled residents emerged from their homes to witness the unexpected visitor, capturing videos of the marine mammal lumbering along sidewalks. In one widely shared clip, police officers can be seen surrounding the visitor with their vehicles, attempting to prevent the animal from moving further. However, the seal showed no fear of the cars and calmly rested its head on the hood of a vehicle. After a while, it resumed its journey, making its way onto the sidewalk. Wow, I didn't have a huge seal in Gordons Bay, Cape Town in South Africa on my list of things to post today....🦭 The Cape of Good Hope SPCA confirmed that the animal was eventually secured near a shopping center, at which point experts concluded it was unlikely to find its own way back to sea. A team of wildlife and emergency personnel was quickly dispatched to the scene. The organization also released a video showing the seal's return to the sea. The SPCA later confirmed in a Facebook post that the seal had hauled out once again, this time at the Naval Base in Simon's Town. 'He's currently safe and secure in a location where he cannot access any roads, and there's no immediate risk to his well-being,' the organization said. Southern elephant seals are the largest seal species in the world and are typically found in sub-Antarctic waters. While sightings in South Africa are rare, experts note that young males occasionally stray from their usual habitats and appear along the country's coastline. 'Wild animals don't always follow the script, and this seal's unexpected journey into a residential area created real cause for concern,' Belinda Abraham, a spokesperson for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, stated. The organization also urged residents to avoid approaching, feeding, or attempting to assist wildlife spotted in urban areas, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe distance.
