Gemma Atkinson reveals 'scary few hours' as she rushed young son to hospital
Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez's two-year-old son Thiago was rushed to hospital the night before his and sister Mia's Christening. The 40-year-old former Emmerdale actress and the 34-year-old professional ballroom dancer - who met on Strictly Come Dancing - had a chaotic lead up to their offspring's joint baptism when young Thiago was taken off in an ambulance to Bolton hospital's children emergency department on Saturday (05.07.25). Fortunately, the little one is "absolutely fine" but it was a worrying time for the family, who still managed to make it to the church on Sunday morning (06.07.25). She shared on Instagram: "We had such a busy weekend with a big build-up and lots of organising. A family birthday tea for Mia on Friday, her party for her school friends Saturday, both Mia and Thiagos christening on Sunday and on top of that a trip to A and E with Thiago sat night." Without stating what was wrong with Thiago, she said: "We were there until 1am Sunday morning and still somehow rocked up to church at 9.30. We were exhausted but we had the best day. He's absolutely fine! But it was a scary few hours and I wanted to say a massive thank you to Bolton hospital children's A and E department, and also the lovely paramedics who took us up there. God bless our NHS!" Through movement, rest, and ice baths, gym bunny Gemma managed to restore the calm in her mind and body and was feeling "full of energy" come Monday (07.07.25). She continued: "On Sunday evening when we were home after all the chaos and fun of weekend my throat started to get sore which I knew was my body communicating with me. 'You're getting run down' with that in mind I dosed up on lemon and local honey, had a bath in magnesium salts and an early night." She concluded: "Monday morning, I did an ice bath before the nursery run, a long dog walk and then headed into the gym to move in a way that was restoring, whilst relaxing. I bounced into work Monday afternoon full of energy and feeling great again. Small simple things to help me both physically and mentally. Movement is medicine, no matter how it's done, it all helps."

Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson's son Thiago, two, rushed to hospital in 'scary' moment just hours before his christening
Gemma Atkinson 's son Thiago was rushed to hospital on the weekend in what was described as a 'scary few hours'. The former Hollyoaks star, 40, who played Lisa Hunter on the soap, revealed the worrying news in an Instagram post on Wednesday. She shares Thiago and her eldest Mia, six, with her Strictly Come Dancing fiancé Gorka Marquez, 34. Posting a video of herself enjoying a workout, Gemma explained in her caption: 'We had such a busy weekend with a big build up & lots of organising. 'A family birthday tea for Mia on Friday, her party for her school friends Saturday, both Mia & Thiago's christening on Sunday and on top of that a trip to A&E with Thiago on Saturday night. 'We were there until 1am Sunday morning and still somehow rocked up to church at 9.30. We were exhausted but we had the best day. He's absolutely fine! 'But it was a scary few hours and I wanted to say a massive thank you to Bolton hospital children's A&E department, and also the lovely paramedics who took us up there.' Gemma did not reveal why Thiago was taken to hospital. Gemma and her professional dancer partner met as co-stars on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, despite not being dance partners on the show. The family's life has been documented over the past couple of years in their reality show, Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens. But it was revealed just a couple of months ago that the show had been axed after just two series. A spokesperson for UKTV - which owns U&W, the channel the pair's series aired on - said: 'It's been a privilege to make two series of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens with Two Rivers Media. 'Gemma and Gorka are both very busy with other projects at the moment, so at this time, there are no current plans for another series, but we look forward to working with them again soon.' The announcement came as a shock following Gemma's suggestion in November last year that the reality show would likely return - because it did so well. When asked if the show would be making a return, she told The Express: 'Potentially, yeah. 'We're currently in talks to do it but we keep thinking, "Why do people want to keep watching us doing nothing?" 'But it did really well, it was like the biggest show on their channel so possibly.' The fly-on-the-wall programme promised to 'follow the unfiltered lives of actress and radio presenter Gemma Atkinson and professional dancer Gorka Marquez' when it hit our screens in August 2023. The first series, which had just three episodes, primarily followed Gemma's pregnancy with their son Thiago. Fans saw Gorka try to balance his dance tour with preparations for his son's arrival - and were even let into the couple's baby shower, before Thiago's arrival in the final episode. The programme was a smash hit, returning for a second series in May last year - focussing this time on how they were adjusting to life as a family of four, across six episodes. The couple said at the time: 'We're excited to be back on your screens for our second series. 'The messages we received, and are still receiving from the first series, have blown us away. 'We're glad so many families can relate to ours and the crazy, wonderful, and exhausting world of parenthood!' Gemma rose to fame on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and its various spin-offs before roles in BBC medical drama Casualty and rival ITV soap Emmerdale. She made the move into presenting in 2017, taking the drivetime slot on Hits Radio.

Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens followed the couple's lives as they juggled their busy work commitments with family life. Confirming the news, a UKTV spokesperson said: "It's been a privilege to make two series of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens with Two Rivers Media. " Gemma and Gorka are both very busy with other projects at the moment, so at this time, there are no current plans for another series, but we look forward to working with them again soon." Gemma, 40, found fame on Channel 4 's Hollyoaks before moving to ITV soap Emmerdale. She is now the drive time host on Hits Radio. She met professional dancer Gorka, 34, when appearing on the 2017 series of Strictly Come Dancing. Gemma did not dance with Gorka, as she was partnered with Aljaz Skorjanec on the show, however the pair hit it off backstage. The couple welcomed their first child into the world, daughter Mia, in July 2019. They got engaged two years later. 3

Strictly star Dianne Buswell supported by fans after sharing moving tribute to her grandfather
Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell has been flooded with support after she announced the death of her grandfather on Sunday (6 July). The Australian ballroom dancer, who joined the BBC show in 2017, posted an emotional tribute to her 99-year-old 'pop' on Instagram. Buswell commented: 'Rest in peace pop. You were 99 years young. Thank you for all the stories and I just know you will be up there dancing with Nan already.' The 36-year-old won the show alongside the actor and comedian Chris McCausland in 2024, for which she was awarded with a Bafta earlier this year. The dancer's Instagram tribute shows a video of her dancing with her grandfather, after surprising him in Australia following the win. Recorded by the YouTuber Joe Sugg, Buswell's partner since 2018, the footage shows the two dancing together. Colleague Michelle Tsiakkas commented: "'I'm so sorry for your loss Di Sending you and your family all my love". Fellow Strictly star Nancy Xu posted: "D D Sending you all the love". Johannes Radebe, who has been a dancer on Strictly since 2018, wrote: 'So sorry Dianne Darling.' Spanish dancer and fellow Strictly star Gorka Marquez added: 'Sending love to you and the family.' In March, Buswell announced the death of her grandmother on social media, commenting: 'Rest in peace nan Love you very much. I'm so grateful I was home to say goodbye to such a special lady in my life. Now go be with pop he has been patiently waiting for you.' Buswell rose to fame in 2018 after she reached Strictly Come Dancing's final with the actor and model Bobby Jack Brazier, best known as Freddie Slater in EastEnders. Earlier this year, Buswell and McCausland announced that they are recording a podcast together. They shared the news on their respective Instagram grids, both posting a video of them having a laugh together and writing: 'Want more of this nonsense? Chris and Dianne are going to be hooking up for a weekly publicly available catch-up, otherwise known as a podcast.' Buswell previously revealed she had been told that she wouldn't make it far in the competition once she had been assigned McCausland. The pair had named their team 'Winning is not everything,' as McCausland admitted that he felt other couples were better. In a dedication to Buswell in his victory speech, McCausland said: 'We've lasted and lasted and Dianne has got so much out of me. She deserves this so much. Every day she's just positivity and belief and she's just one of the easiest people to be funny with than I've ever met.'
