41.38 lakh students, 1 lakh teachers trained under Naan Mudhalvan scheme: T.N. government
The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said over 41.38 lakh students and about 1 lakh teachers have been trained under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme so far. Besides this, the Uyarvukku Padi scheme has facilitated the admission of 77,752 students into higher education institutions. Under the Kalloori Kanavu 24 initiative, over 1.87 lakh have benefited since its inception in 2022. In 2025-26, 81,149 students benefited, an official release listing the accomplishments of the Special Programme Implementation Department said. A total of 29 government engineering colleges have been equipped with skill and employment centres at an estimated cost of ₹30.17 crore, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on December 18, 2024, at the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. Under the North Chennai Development Project, about 1,200 individuals from the region participated in skill training and job fairs, with 297 selected for recruitment, training, and placement, it said. Since 2021-22, 259,072 college hostel students from the Adi Dravidar community, Most Backward Classes, and Backward Classes have received training in English speaking and softskill development, the release said. Under the SCOOT Pilot Phase Outcomes (2024), implemented in collaboration with the British Council and Durham University, 100 students received online training in artificial intelligence and data science, it said. The top 25 students received in-person training at Durham University, and 13 of them were placed in leading companies. For the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, an allocation of ₹8,123.83 crore was made for 2023-24 and ₹13,721.50 crore for 2024-25. 'The scheme will be expanded to include more eligible women,' it said.

Seminar on wood identification, export procedures held
SWAT: The E&M Division-II of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) organised a seminar titled 'Wood Identification, Quality Assessment and Export Procedures' at the Government College of Technology (GCT). The event was held in collaboration with the Government College of Technology, Swat, Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Furniture Association, Swat. It drew strong participation from prominent representatives of the region's furniture sector. The seminar commenced with inaugural remarks and was followed by technical presentations as well as question-and-answer session. In their opening addresses, Amir Zeb, Principal, GCT Swat; Naseem ur Rehman, Chairman (IMC), Swat; Haroon Mehboob, Ex-President, Swat CCI; Lateef-ur-Rehman, Associate Professor, GCT Swat; and Umar Muhammad, President, Furniture Association Swat highlighted the key challenges faced by the local furniture industry in promoting business growth and boosting exports. The technical session featured three informative presentations. NEET exam to be held in 14 centres in Coimbatore
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be held at 14 centres in Coimbatore district on Sunday. A total of 5,736 candidates are set to appear for the examination, of whom 298 are from government schools. The centres include CCMA Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Government Arts College, Government College of Technology, Government Higher Secondary School Ashokapuram, and Coimbatore Institute of Technology. PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, and Kongunadu Arts and Science College. The examination is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Entry gates will be open from 11 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Authorities have made arrangements for frisking, provision of drinking water, and crowd regulation. Candidates have been asked to follow the instructions provided to them and to carry printed copies of their admit card along with two passport-size photographs. Entry will not be permitted after the cut-off time.
