State pension error means parents could be owed thousands
In his latest update, Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis is highlighting a State Pension error which saw parents and carers who took time off work between 1978 and 2010 to look after children due £100,000 or more when they retire, known as Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP). The post says: "If you cared for a child or someone with a long-term disability between 1978 and 2010, you could wrongly have National Insurance gaps that reduce your State Pension. 100,000s could be affected, and while the Govt was contacting people, it isn't any longer - as highlighted by former Pensions Minister Steve Webb. Thus the onus is on you to proactively check. The impact can be huge." State Pension error! Did you take time off work (1978 to 2010) to look after children or someone with long term disability? You could be owed £10,000s Full help to check in... In brief: 100,000s wrongly have Nat Insurance gaps that reduce your State… Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) was given for full tax years (6 April to 5 April) between 1978 and 2010, if any of the following were true: National Insurance credits for parents and carers replaced HRP from 6 April 2010. Most people got HRP automatically if they were: If your partner claimed Child Benefit instead of you, you may be able to transfer HRP from a partner you lived with if they claimed Child Benefit while you both cared for a child under 16 and they do not need the HRP. If you reached State Pension age before 6 April 2008, you cannot transfer HRP. If you became a parent before May 2000, you may have Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) missing from your National Insurance record. This could mean you're missing out on State Pension payments. Check if you can apply for HRP below. ⬇️ If you spent at least 35 hours a week caring for someone with a long-term illness or disability between 6 April 1978 and 5 April 2002, you may also be able to claim. They must have been getting one of the following benefits: The benefit must have been paid for 48 weeks of each tax year on or after 6 April 1988 or every week of each tax year before 6 April 1988. You do not need to apply for HRP if you were getting Carer's Allowance. You'll automatically get National Insurance credits and would not usually have needed HRP, but check - just to be sure. In a post on X, HMRC said: "If you became a parent before May 2000, you may have Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) missing from your National Insurance record. This could mean you're missing out on State Pension payments." For someone with 13 missing years, who lives for another 20 years, it can be worth as much as £100,000 or more in State Pension payments. Recommended reading: You can also apply if, for a full tax year between 2003 and 2010, you were either: All of the following must also be true: You cannot get HRP for any complete tax year if you were a married woman or a widow and had chosen to pay reduced rate Class 1 National Insurance contributions as an employee (commonly known as the small stamp), or you had chosen not to pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions when self-employed

Govt puts Kumurambheem Conservation Reserve proposal on hold
Hyderabad: The Govt puts Kumurambheem Conservation Reserve proposal on hold Government of Telangana has temporarily suspended the proposed Kumurambheem Conservation Reserve, pending further orders. This decision was communicated through a memo issued by the Environment, Forests, Science & Technology (EFS&T) Department on Monday. The conservation reserve was established to create a vital tiger corridor connecting the Kawal Tiger Reserve in Telangana with the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. This initiative aims to enhance tiger conservation and improve habitat connectivity. It was officially notified through Government Order Ms. No. 49 on May 30, 2025. However, based on recommendations from the District Collector of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, the EFS&T Department has decided to put this notification on hold. Ahmad Nadeem, Principal Secretary to the Government, issued the directive in response to concerns raised from the district, indicating that the state is reevaluating some operational and administrative implications of the corridor designation. It followed a letter from the Collector dated July 11, 2025, which likely outlined potential challenges related to land use, tribal rights, or ecological balance. However, on the other hand, conservation experts emphasised that while connectivity between protected areas is vital for maintaining healthy tiger populations, such proposals must also consider local socio-economic factors and encourage community engagement.

Operation Kalanemi: 23 Fake babas arrested in Uttarakhand
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 12 (ANI): On the instructions of the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, 'Operation Kalanemi' has been started against the impersonators who cheat people in the name of religion by playing with their feelings and beliefs in Devbhoomi. According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, the arrested individuals were allegedly preying on people's religious sentiments and were involved in duping unsuspecting victims. While speaking to ANI, the SSP said, 'Under this campaign, the police took action in various police station areas on Saturday and arrested 23 fake babas roaming around in the guise of saints and sadhus. Among the arrested fake babas, 10 persons are residents of other states.' The Chief Minister has instructed to identify all such persons and take strict action against them. As part of the initiative, Dehradun Police on Saturday arrested 23 individuals posing as sadhus in different areas of the district. Singh told ANI, 'In line with the instructions, all the station in-charges have been instructed to identify such persons in their respective police station areas, who disguise themselves as saints and mislead people, especially women and youth, and lure them to solve their personal or domestic problems and commit fraud with them, and take strict action against them.' Meanwhile, Hindu religious groups welcome Uttarakhand Govt's 'Op Kalanemi' targeting fake seers. 'Operation Kalanemi' is a campaign against anti-social elements who are hurting religious sentiments and duping people under the pretext of 'Sanatan Dharma' by posing as seers, and have called for strict action against such fake people. President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, welcomed this decision and asserted that strict action should be taken against the people who cheat Kanwariyas. Speaking to ANI about this initiative, Puri said, 'Kanwar is being conducted in Haridwar and we welcome this decision by the Chief Minister and thank him as well... The president of Akhand Parshuram Akhada stated that the Aadhar cards of such imposters should be verified, and action must be taken against such people. 'We welcome this campaign... There are some fake seers who bring disgrace to our respected saints, the Aadhar card of such imposters should be checked... While India is about to become Vishwaguru, only original saints must be there... There are some seers (fake ones) who have committed a crime, and action must be taken on such people...' he said. Reality bites for Djokovic after crushing Wimbledon loss
LONDON - Novak Djokovic admitted reality was beginning to bite after the Serb was unable to bridge a 15-year age gap in a Wimbledon semi-final drubbing against Italian Jannik Sinner on Friday. One of the many milestones he was attempting to etch on his record-shredding list of achievements at his 20th Wimbledon was to become the oldest player to win a Grand Slam singles title. At the age of 38, however, even a player who has so often looked superhuman in collecting 24 Grand Slam titles looked his age in a 6-3 6-3 6-4 defeat. Admittedly he said he was less than fully fit after a late fall against Flavio Cobolli in his previous match. But even without the battle scars of a long and hot fortnight, he would surely have been overwhelmed by the relentless power and accuracy of 23-year-old Sinner's game. "Honestly, wasn't really a pleasant feeling on the court. I don't want to talk in details about my injury and just whine about not managing to play my best," the seven-time Wimbledon champion told reporters. "I want to congratulate Jannik for a great performance. He's in the finals. He was too strong." Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. RETIRED HURT The Serb retired hurt against Alexander Zverev in Australia, lost to Sinner in straight sets in Paris and suffered an even more resounding defeat by the Italian on Friday. He also reached the last two Wimbledon finals, falling short against Spain's Carlos Alcaraz on both occasions. But his last Grand Slam glory was in 2023 -- when he triumphed at Melbourne Park, Roland Garros and Flushing Meadows -- and he knows the clock is ticking ever more loudly. "It's just age, the wear and tear of the body. As much as I'm taking care of it, the reality hits me right now, last year and a half, like never before, to be honest," said Djokovic, whose only successes over the past 18 months have been Olympic gold in Paris and a low-key title in Geneva in May. "These guys are fit, young, sharp. I feel like I'm going into the match with a tank half empty. It's just not possible to win a match like that. It's one of these things I accept and embrace in some way, deal with the reality the way it is, and try to make the most out of it." Cheers of "Nole Nole" resounded around Centre Court as he tried to stay alive against Sinner and his diehard fans will be reassured that he intends to keep fighting the good fight. "Hopefully it's not my last match on the Centre Court. I'm not planning to finish my Wimbledon career today," he said. "So I'm planning to come back definitely at least one more time, play on the Centre Court for sure. "Right now I'm so fresh off the court, it's hard to put things in a larger perspective and say what the plan is for the next few months or a year. I still feel like I continue to play my best tennis at Grand Slams. Those are the tournaments that I care about at this stage of my career the most." Asked about the duopoly developing between Alcaraz and Sinner, who have shared all the Grand Slam titles since his 2023 win in New York, Djokovic said: "I think the anticipation for this final is big. They're definitely several levels above everyone right now." REUTERS
