Trichy: Three people were arrested on Thursday in connection with vandalism of a school near Tiruvarur and littering of a faeces-like substance inside a water tank there. The Tiruvarur taluk police have been interrogating dozens of people in Thappalampuliyur and the surrounding panchayats for four days. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On Thursday night, police arrested S Vijayaraj, 35, a welder, and his employees S Senthil, 47, and S Kalidas, 25, from Kariyankudi. They were booked under BNS sections 331-1 (trespass), 305 (theft), 324-4 (damages to properties), and 279 (fouling water of a reservoir) based on the school headmistress' complaint. Police also booked them under the Wildlife (Protection) Act for eating meat of a mongoose, a protected species. On Monday, staff members of Govt Primary School in Kariyankudi in Thappalampuliyur panchayat found that some miscreants trespassed into the premises, broke kitchen doors, took the ingredients, cooked meat of a wild animal, and ate inside the school premises. The miscreants also damaged trees on the premises and the top of the plastic water tank. School staff also found faeces-like substances inside the water tank. Tiruvarur superintendent of police (SP) Karun Garad formed a special to probe the case. "The offence of 'faecal littering' inside the water tank can't be confirmed until we receive the reports of forensic analysis. We cannot reveal certain details which can compromise the investigation," the SP said.

Indore: A video showing students at Govt Primary School at Lalguwadi village in Ratlam district being served sev-parmal (puffed rice) instead of mandatory kheer-puri under the mid-day meal scheme has gone viral on social media. After receiving the video, Ratlam zila panchayat CEO Shringar Shrivastava directed the mid-day meal nodal officer and additional CEO to carry out an immediate inquiry and take necessary action. Following the order, show-cause notices were issued to five individuals associated with the school and the meal preparation, directing them to respond within three days. The incident occurred on June 24. But, the video surfaced on Tuesday, and reached the district panchayat officials. In the video, students can be seen eating only sev and parmal, while a few staff members and villagers stand nearby. A voice in the background is heard saying, "Jo ho raha hai, bolte jao, record ho raha hai" (Keep talking, it's all being recorded), suggesting the video was captured by a villager to document the deviation from the prescribed meal. The initiative aims to align school names with constitutional values of equality, secularism, and inclusivity.
