Lewis Capaldi's health condition that triggered stage hiatus as singer makes Glastonbury return

Singer was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome just a few months before announcing he would be stepping away from music to focus on his mental and physical health Lewis Capaldi made a rousing comeback at Glastonbury with a surprise set on Friday afternoon. The singer even joked that it was the "worst kept secret" as he delighted fans with his afternoon appearance on the Pyramid stage during a time slot mysteriously marked as TBA. But for Capaldi and his admirers, the performance symbolised more than a surprise. Two years ago, the Glasgow-born artist suffered a severe Tourette's episode live on the same stage. The moment unfolded midway through his Grammy-nominated hit 'Someone You Loved', when Capaldi was suddenly gripped by an intense tic attack – involuntary twitches affecting his head, shoulders, arms, and legs, which are characteristic of Tourette's syndrome. As he valiantly tried to push forward with the show, his tics wrenching the mic away, Capaldi was visibly shaken and upset. Footage capturing this raw moment circulated online, touching hearts worldwide as the audience pitched in with the lyrics whenever Capaldi struggled. In the aftermath, the singer took to Instagram to reveal his temporary departure from performing, citing his health and recent diagnosis of Tourette's, which had occurred less than a year before. Characterised as a neurological condition resulting in uncontrollable sounds or movements, known as tics, Tourette's currently has no cure; nevertheless, treatments are available to help individuals manage their symptoms and tic attacks according to the NHS. Common vocal tics are behaviours such as whistling, sniffing, emitting animal noises, repeating phrases, and in rarer cases, cursing. Meanwhile, movement tics can compel someone to roll their eyes, blink excessively, shrug, jump or exhibit unpredictable, spasmodic movements. These tics can be set off by intense emotions like stress or exhilaration. While people often receive a diagnosis before becoming teenagers, Lewis did not learn about his condition until he was 25, which happened in September 2022. Shortly after the diagnosis, on an appearance of the Jonathan Ross Show, the singer shared that he felt compelled to go public because "people think I am on cocaine (because) I twitch a lot and I'm in showbusiness so I can understand (why) but I have Tourette's." Lewis remarked: "I said it on an Instagram Live, I didn't expect it to be a big thing but people picked it up and now I am the poster boy for Tourette's which I'll take, I'll gladly accept." Discussing his initial fears before the diagnosis, Lewis said: "I thought I had a degenerative disease. So to be told I have Tourette's was, as you can imagine, quite the relief." To coincide with his sensational comeback at Glastonbury, Lewis has debuted a new tune named 'Survive'. Detailing his determination to persist in spite of the challenges brought on by his health. When performing Friday, the artist touched on the true sentiment behind his lyrics and disclosed how he coped during his hiatus, saying according to The Metro: "The last two years haven't been the best for me, it's been difficult at times. "I wanted to write a song that was about overcoming that stuff and getting over the other side of it. This has been my goal, to get back here doing this. So, this is the song about that."

John McEnroe's rockstar wife's 'split' admission and golden relationship rules

John McEnroe's rockstar wife's 'split' admission and golden relationship rules John McEnroe and Patty Smyth have been a couple for almost 35 years, yet the pair once revealed the one thing that could have torn them apart John McEnroe and Patty Smyth have opened up on how to have a long and happy marriage (Image: Getty ) US tennis hero John McEnroe and his rockstar wife Patty Smyth once candidly shared the potential deal-breaker in their long-standing marriage. The couple, who have been together for nearly 35 years, faced a moment that could have ended it all when they considered joining a reality TV show. Smyth, who rose to fame with the band Scandal, believes that maintaining a low profile with the former tennis icon is the secret to their enduring relationship. ‌ Speaking to People in 2020, Smyth revealed how discussions about participating in a reality series nearly two decades ago ultimately fell through due to her concerns about the impact on their union. "For me, it was a superstition thing," Smyth said. ‌ "I didn't want to be like, 'Hey, look at us, we're this happy couple.' I just thought if I kept it on the down-low, I had this gut feeling that we would stay together - if I threw it out to the world, that we wouldn't - because I've seen that happen so many times. That [reality show] probably would have broken us up, I bet you." McEnroe, a three-time Wimbledon champion and BBC commentator, first encountered the Grammy-nominated artist in 1993, leading to their nuptials in 1997. Smyth emphasised that she followed her "instincts" when she met the famously forthright McEnroe, despite her previous marriage to musician Richard Hell between 1985-86, reports the Express. Article continues below McEnroe meanwhile, was formerly married to Oscar-winning star Tatum O'Neal from 1986 until 1994. McEnroe and Smyth have two children together, and Smyth is thankful for the marriage, claiming it's a relationship that's still bearing fruit decades later. Never did I think that I would ever be with somebody for this long. ... I think we got very lucky." ‌ Yet, always one to inject humour, McEnroe playfully added that there's another crucial element for their enduring bond, "You're forgetting the most obvious one," he quipped in the interview, which led Smyth to divulge their other secret: "Sex. You've got to keep the sex going." McEnroe's storied career boasts seven Grand Slam victories and a total of 77 singles titles. This was paralleled by a reputation for an outspoken persona on and off the court. In a revealing interview back in 2018, McEnroe shared insights into his mindset before meeting Smyth, initially resistant to commitment. Article continues below "I was 35 years old when we started to go out and at that time I thought I don't want anymore kids, I don't want to have another marriage," he said. "I just want to go out with some young girls who don't want to do anything but have a good time, and then Patty came along. It gave me a second lease on life and she doesn't get thanked enough. "[Smyth] has allowed me to do my thing. She makes me more whole and a better person. I like to think we work as a team and we've made each other better, the sum of the two of us is better than individual parts."

Jade reignites 'feud' with US popstar after Little Mix collaboration

Jade has sparked a frenzy of conversation among fans with a blunt comment about Charlie Puth. The 32-year-old former Little Mix singer is enjoying chart success as a solo artist and has been out promoting her music. But while fielding quick-fire questions on KISS FM's Say It Or Shot It, the Angel of My Dreams singer unexpectedly took a swipe at Puth, 33. Asked if there were any artists she would refuse to work with, the singer cuttingly remarked, 'I feel like the fans already know someone I wouldn't collaborate with: Charlie Puth.' When asked to elaborate, the singer opted to remain relatively silent, adding, 'Just don't… Nothing to say, just yet, on that one.' Jade and Puth have collaborated in the past, with the American singer joining Little Mix on their 2016 single Oops. Fans have long claimed that tension was visible between the pair when they performed a song live alongside fellow Little Mix stars Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Perrie Edwards. There was speculation that Puth had declared romantic feelings for Jade despite the fact that she was already in a relationship at the time with musician Jed Elliott, the bassist for the band The Struts. Fans have once again taken to social media in light of Jade's new comments, fueling further speculation about the apparent feud between her and the five-time Grammy-nominated star. 'The way she didn't hesitate for a second😭😭 the beef is ALIVE and well,' Domiii wrote on X. Elmalquerer stan said they wanted to be 'as honest as her some day', while Violinzviolinz joked 'the girls are fighting again.' 'Not Charlie catching a stray 💀,' Lonelyfirely wrote on X, adding: 'The silence after she said it was louder than words 😶.' 'If charlie has zero haters jade is dead 😭👋🏽,' username991213 wrote. Others thought it may be time for the popstars to squash the beef, with EmilyTaha writing: 'I love her but she needs to let it down already it has been years it is not that deep.' More Trending Back in 2017, We Don't Talk Anymore hitmaker Puth admitted to previously having a crush on Jade. 'Me and Jade had a bit of a look on X Factor. She's in a relationship I found out that night,' he said on the Bizarre Life podcast. 'I was on stage singing with them and was like, 'Oh jade, she's so sexy.' She's so lovely, [but] well she's taken. I will say she's taken and I'm glad she's happy.' Metro has contacted representatives for Charlie Puth for comment Got a story? United Houma Nation to have traditional dance, food at annual powwow

The United Houma Nation holds its annual powwow this weekend in Houma, about an hour from New Orleans, and the public is invited. Why it matters: The event offers an opportunity to learn more about the tribe that has deep historical and cultural roots in southeast Louisiana. The big picture: The powwow is free and is inside the air-conditioned Barry P. Bonvillain Civic Center on Saturday and Sunday. Non-native people are welcome, says Principal Chief Lora Ann Chaisson. The event will have traditional song and dance performances along with native craft, art and food vendors. About 10,000 people are expected to attend, says Jared Crosby, the chairperson of the powwow. Zoom in: The grand entry will be the best time to see all the dancers, Crosby says. They'll do it twice on Saturday (1pm and 7pm) and once on Sunday (1pm). There are also are various categories in which the dancers compete for prize money. The dancers are from multiple tribes across the country. "The powwow world, it's kind of similar to the rodeo circuit, where every weekend across the country, there's a dance going on," Crosby said, and participants travel to "show off their unique dance styles and share their traditions." YoungBird Singers, a Grammy-nominated drum group from Oklahoma, will also perform. If you go: The powwow is known for its fry bread and Indian tacos, which are also sold at Jazz Fest. The United Houma Nation runs that booth too. Fry bread is a culturally significant flatbread that's fried. The Indian tacos are made with fry bread as the base and filled with meat and other toppings. They'll also have Southern classics like poboys, Chaisson says. The state donated the shrimp for the event. Zoom out: The United Houma Nation held their first annual powwow last year after a hiatus from COVID-19 and Hurricane Ida. Ida devastated their new headquarters in Houma, which they had just moved into. The city of Houma is named after the indigenous people. The powwow focuses on disability awareness, with an emphasis this year on autism.
