Exclusive: Lawyer of Grand Prairie councilman charged with assault says viral video doesn't tell the whole story

CBS News Texas is hearing exclusively from the lawyer representing Grand Prairie Councilman Mike Del Bosque. The attorney said the video showing his client allegedly assaulting a man doesn't tell the whole story of what happened that day. Exclusive video released Wednesday is causing controversy in Grand Prairie. It shows Councilman Del Bosque allegedly assaulting a real estate broker in April. Police arrested and charged Del Bosque with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. "My response is the video that was shown does not show the events that took place before the altercation in the parking lot, Phillip Linder said. Attorney Phillip Linder represents Del Bosque. The video shows the councilman allegedly punching 60-year-old David Collantes, pushing him to the ground, and breaking his cell phone. It happened outside a medical office building on Carrier Parkway, which was owned by Del Bosque but in the process of being turned over to another owner after a default judgment. "David Collantes entered our client's private property through a back door," Linder said. "It was in a private office, uninvited. The female staff felt threatened, and when asked to leave, he used expletives," said Linder. Linder said Collantes and three other men entered the building and wouldn't leave when asked. "It really shouldn't surprise me how an attorney and politician can really twist the truth tighter than a large German pretzel that you could buy at the state fair," Collantes said. Collantes said Linder's allegations simply aren't true. "The people there that day were myself and another woman. Not two men, another woman and a male, so there's three people," Collantes said. "I never entered his business in the back door." Linder believes Del Bosque was acting in self-defense. "I've been talking with the D.A. She's given me till next Friday to produce our video, our photographs and our statement, which we're working on putting together," Linder said. "What happened was not self-defense, right? Mr. Del Bosque is not law enforcement, and if he believed that there was something wrong, what's the first thing we do? We call 911 and let the police handle it," Collantes said. Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen sent CBS News Texas the following statement: "I am deeply concerned about what occurred, and the discredit the Councilmember's actions have brought to the City. I have directed City staff to place a vote to censure on the agenda for the next City Council meeting. The City Council will have the opportunity to respond accordingly on August 5." "I would ask them to wait for all the facts to come out, but their city council is their city council," Linder said. "I'm surprised it took this long. I mean, this the assault happened April 4th. Mr. Del Bosque was arrested April 10th, and they're getting around to it now almost four months later," Collantes said. Both sides have very different hopes for the future. "I hope that the Dallas County District Attorney will fairly, and I do mean fairly, properly prosecute this case that will start the restoration of my faith in the legal system," Collantes said. "We're hoping the outcome is the case either doesn't get filed or gets dismissed once it is filed," Linder said. "I mean, he was defending his office staff. The what's not shown on the video was that this man was very threatening." Collantes said it was the councilman who was threatening, even to Collantes' wife, who he said came with him to the property. "I cannot protect my wife from Mr. Del Bosque. That's something I have to live with, and that's why I'm not going to give this up," Collantes said. "I'm still working on getting statements from all of the staff. Some of them may have cell phone video and photographs that we're working on getting," Linder said. The August 5th Grand Prairie City Council meeting, where a vote on whether to censure the councilman is expected to happen, will be held at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Exclusive video shows Grand Prairie Councilman allegedly assaulting 60-year-old real estate broker, leading to arrest

For the first time, we're seeing video that shows a Grand Prairie city councilman allegedly assaulting a real estate broker, which led to his arrest. CBS News Texas has obtained exclusive video that recorded Michael Del Bosque allegedly punching a 60-year-old man and breaking his phone during what his accuser calls an unprovoked attack. That accuser is speaking for the first time to CBS News Texas. "It's a very difficult thing because I have some physical and emotional scars," said David Collantes, the alleged assault victim. Collantes hasn't been back to the Grand Prairie parking lot where the incident allegedly happened since April. April is when the 60-year-old Austin real estate broker left the area with bloodied hands after a violent encounter with Grand Prairie City Councilmember Mike Del Bosque. "He gets in front of me, does not allow me to walk by," said Collantes. "And then, when he's kind of looking at me, I saw in his eyes that he meant to do harm." Security camera video obtained by CBS News Texas shows Del Bosque approaching Collantes on April 4 outside a medical office building on Carrier Parkway. It was a building owned by Del Bosque but in the process of being turned over to another owner after a default judgment. Collantes said the city councilman didn't want him showing the property to a prospective buyer and took it out on him in a violent assault. "I identified myself as a real estate broker with clients looking at property in the area," said Collantes. "And he said, 'What do you want? My property,' over and over again. And then that's when I kind of started backing up ... And I just was fighting for my life, literally." The video shows Del Bosque taking Collantes to the ground, eventually smashing the victim's cell phone and trying to grab his wallet. He was arrested days later and charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. "It's a bit shocking that a public figure, someone who people put their trust in, would elect somebody that has, really, a bad temper and cannot control his emotions and uses his authority to abuse his power," Collantes said. Collantes believes the video proves Del Bosque is unfit to continue serving on the city council while the criminal case is pending. "I would like to see him get prosecuted," said Collantes. "It has nothing to do with what he is or who he is. But this is all about transparency. I want the public to know that this man is a menace to your society. Grand Prairie does not want to be known as a city where innocent people can come and get accosted by the public officials." CBS News Texas spoke to Del Bosque by phone and asked him about what is seen on the video. He declined to comment and said he would have his attorney contact us. So far, that hasn't happened. Del Bosque has served on the city council since 2017. Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen sent the following statement to CBS News Texas: "I'm concerned about what occurred, but ultimately, it's up to the citizens to decide whether they believe he should continue serving if he chooses to run again." Dallas County DA John Creuzot insists that Del Bosque's position of power will not impact his prosecution, saying in a statement, "This is a pending case, so we cannot comment. However, I can assure you that this office is following the law and this matter is being handled with the same diligence and impartiality as any other case." Dallas County District Attorney's Office said, "Without the video evidence that Collantes says he obtained from a nearby animal clinic that he believes backs up his account, it's possible, he says, that the councilmember would avoid accountability for the trauma he still struggles with." "I have some leftover scars," said Collantes. "There's more. But they're on my fingers and they'll never go away. And so, I'm constantly reminded of the attack every day."

LIXIL's Texas Trim: 65 Jobs On The Chopping Block, WARN Filings Reveal

A recent filing with the Texas Workforce Commission indicates that global building materials manufacturer LIXIL intends to lay off 65 workers at its Grand Prairie facility this September. The The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires companies with 100 or more employees to provide 60 days' notice in advance of plant closings or mass layoffs. While a WARN notice typically signals that a layoff will occur, execution is not guaranteed. Economic reversals, strategic shifts, or new funding can sometimes result in rescinded or reduced layoffs. LIXIL, headquartered in Tokyo and active in over 150 countries, describes itself as a maker of 'pioneering water and housing products that make better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere.' The firm was formed through a 2011 merger of five major Japanese housing and building materials companies and now owns global brands such as GROHE and American Standard, according to the company's website. Its financial forecast, published on its investor relations page, projects modest revenue and earnings growth for the fiscal year ending March 2026. Revenue is expected to rise by 2% to 1.54 trillion yen (about $10 billion), with core earnings climbing 12% to 35 billion yen. The Water Technology Business, LIXIL's largest segment, is projected to grow 3% in revenue and 10% in core earnings year-over-year. The layoffs in Tarrant County come amid LIXIL's global positioning efforts and product innovation push. In the absence of a public explanation for the decision, it is unclear whether the move is part of a broader restructuring or a localized adjustment.
