Philadelphia police release photos of 2 suspects wanted in connection with Grays Ferry mass shooting
Philadelphia police released photos of two suspects they're searching for in connection with a mass shooting in Grays Ferry that killed 3 people and injured 9 on July 7. Police described the first suspect shown in the photo below as a male in his late teens or early 20s with a medium complexion, thin build and sideburns. The suspect was last seen wearing a gray head covering, black jacket, white T-shirt, black track pants and carrying an Under Armour backpack. Investigators said the second suspect is also a male in his late teens or early 20s, with a medium complexion and an unkempt afro. This suspect was last seen wearing black track pants, a black shirt and carrying a black Nike backpack with silver bubbling along the straps. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said the mass shooting happened on the 1500 block of South Etting Street just before 1 a.m. on July 7. Later that night, Philadelphia police released a video of three suspects on Ring surveillance who remain at large. Bethel said officers had already responded to the same block late Saturday night into early Sunday. Police made arrests during that earlier incident and continued to monitor the area throughout the weekend. Officers then returned on Sunday after receiving reports of loud music. While responding to a separate incident nearby, officers heard gunfire and rushed back to the block. In total, police said nine victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and three others were taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. One additional victim walked into the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's Pavilion Campus. Bethel said at least eight of the victims were taken by police. Police said another victim went to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia but was not shot and only injured from falling to the ground while running away. Bethel said he believes there were around 40 individuals who may have been present at the time of the shooting. He added that there may have been an exchange of gunfire, and dozens of shell casings were recovered from the scene. Police said one person was taken into custody with a weapon, though their role in the shooting is unclear.

Partygoers cower in horror 1am shooting
A block party in central Philadelphia quickly turned fatal after a mass shooting broke out between attendees. In footage captured by a Ring doorbell camera, partygoers are seen squirming around on the floor of a tiled porch, ducking and weaving to avoid the gunfire a mere arms length above them. Others are seen running for their lives down the street, ducking behind cars for safety. A man, dressed in all black and wearing a backpack, is seen moving up the stairs of the neighbouring porch and ducks, before peeking back out to the road to shoot. Two men leap from the huddle of people hiding to join in, firing in the same direction. Three men – aged 19, 23 and 24 – died at the 1500 block of South Etting Street in Grays Ferry just after 1am on Monday morning. It is not known what triggered the shooting, with a neighbour telling the Philadelphia Inquirer the gathering quickly grew in numbers and got out of hand. 'This is coward stuff,' Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel told reporters. 'Just individuals just shooting randomly into houses, into cars, children out here. 'This is coward, wannabe thug stuff.' Police had already responded to the same block late Saturday into early Sunday and some arrests were made, the commissioner said. Commissioner Bethel said evidence indicated nearly 140 shots were fired. 'Reports of around 40 individuals may be out here, but those numbers can surge particularly when you're on a block of this size,' he said. 'People go in, they go out, they see the police officers, they back in, clearly there was something on the block.' Another 13 people were reportedly injured, including a 19-year-old who was hit twice in the head and remains in a critical condition at the University of Pennsylvania hospital. A 15-year-old girl and two 17-year-old boys were also injured. One person with a weapon has been taken into custody, police confirmed. It is unknown at this stage if they were involved.

Holiday weekend turns deadly as gunfire erupts in Philadelphia residential neighborhood
Three people were killed, and nine others were wounded when gunfire broke out over the Fourth of July weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Police Department said officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 1 a.m. Monday in the Grays Ferry section of the city. When officers arrived, they discovered multiple victims were suffering from gunshot wounds, adding that three individuals had ultimately died. Police said 23-year-old Zahir Wylie suffered a gunshot wound to the chest; 19-year-old Jason Reese sustained a gunshot wound to the head; and 24-year-old Aziz Harriz suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back. Police also said nine additional victims suffered various gunshot wounds. A 21-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and ankle; a 17-year-old man and 24-year-old man were both shot in the left arm, as was a 19-year-old man. Police added that a 23-year-old woman was shot in her left elbow, left thigh and right calf, while a 15-year-old girl and 18-year-old man were also shot, though the extent of their injuries was unknown. A second 17-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm, police said, and a 19-year-old sustained two gunshot wounds to the head. The 19-year-old was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia before being taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is listed in critical condition. Police said over 40 people were gathered in the area when over 100 gunshots from at least four different caliber weapons were fired. A horrific video of the incident shows a group of people on the street starting to run while over a dozen others sitting on a porch began crawling on one another to find cover. The sound of gunfire then erupts, and individuals holding handguns can be seen returning fire, while people continue to struggle to find cover. One man next to the Ring doorbell camera can be seen firing his semi-automatic handgun uncontrollably over the group of people directly at his feet. As a result of the gunfire outbreak, nearby homes were hit by bullets during the shooting, though police said nobody inside the homes was struck. FOX 29 in Philadelphia reported that during the Fourth of July weekend, six people were killed and over a dozen others injured in shootings across the city. "Folks are going to wake up and hear about a lot of the incidents that happened over the weekend, but we are not going back," Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said. The station reported that eight people were injured in a shooting outside a South Philadelphia bar overnight Friday as people were wrapping up their Independence Day celebrations.
