Locals rally together to fundraise for family of 'kindest soul' Freya Tobin, 12

Tributes continue to flow for the 'kindest, most gentle soul' Freya Tobin, who died after getting into difficulties while swimming in the River Suir as locals rally together to fundraise for her funeral costs. Freya, 12, from Newcastle, Co Tipperary, had been in the water with a friend along the Suir Blueway at around 4.20pm last Friday, July 11. It is understood that Freya and another friend both got into difficulty swimming around the same time. Freya's friend managed to swim to safety and raise the alarm. A number of local boys heard the screams of the girls and dived into the water to help. In a multi-agency response, Gardaí, National Ambulance Service personnel and firefighters from Clonmel Fire Station's swift water rescue team attended the scene. Freya was transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH) by the Irish Coast Guard Air and Sea Rescue 117 helicopter after being recovered from the water at around 4.45pm on Friday. The former sixth-class student of Scoil Mhuire Caisleán Nua National School died a short time later. Freya's friend, who managed to swim to safety, was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel for treatment. Heartbroken locals continue to pay tribute to Freya, with one writing on social media: 'Rest in heavenly peace Freya. You were the most beautiful girl inside and out. Look over your mammy, your little brother Grayson and your family and give them the strength to get through the most devastating time of their lives. Rest easy pet. You'll be forever missed. Another wrote: 'Rest peacefully, the most happiest beautiful girl. We will love you forever. Please watch over the family, especially Grayson and mammy.' Meanwhile, a fundraiser has been set up to help Freya's grieving family with funeral costs. The GoFundMe fundraiser, The Funeral of Freya Tobin, details how the local community has been affected by the 'devastating event', describes Freya as the 'kindest, most gentle soul to grace the community of Newcastle' and how her death leaves behind a 'wave of deep sorrow and regret'. Fundraising organisers added that their lives have 'drastically' changed forever. 'What should have been another day of summer holiday fun turned into an unimaginable nightmare. In what can only be described as a tragic and utterly devastating event, our beloved Freya drowned in the River Suir while swimming with her dear friend Emily,' they continued. 'There wasn't a single person who did not know her name, nor whom she wouldn't have said hello to when passing through the village. She touched the hearts of every single person that had the pleasure of knowing her, and you couldn't help but leave her company with a smile on your face. The biggest smile of all being on the face of her biggest admirer, her little brother Grayson.' They describe how Freya made people laugh 'uncontrollably' throughout the years with her sense of humour. The organisers continued: 'You couldn't possibly be a friend to her mother Shannen, auntie Amber, uncle Dylan without being Freya's friend also. Her presence was magnetic and this is shown by just how many friends she has made for herself in our community and beyond. It's safe to say she had all of us wrapped around her finger but particularly, her nanny Catríona and grandad OJ. 'Her death leaves behind a wave of deep sorrow and regret. The kind that such a small community will never truly recover from. In light of this, we want to come together as a community and help the Tobin family cover the costs of Freya's funeral. I hope we can rally together and give Shannen one less thing to worry about in these horrifically, troubling times'. As of Sunday afternoon, the fundraiser had already raised just under €30,000. Her funeral arrangements are yet to be announced. Freya is survived by her mother Shannen and her younger brother Grayson. Ask The Beauty Editor: How Can I Wear Subtle Makeup As A Man?

One male reader writes in with a hot question on the best way to wear natural makeup. Dear Ash, My dark under-eye circles are starting to get to me, but I'm not sure about the best way to cover them up without it looking obvious. I'm a 27-year-old man and I've never worn makeup before, but I'm open to trying something subtle for my under-eyes or to conceal blemishes. Where should I start? Thanks, Done With Dark Circles Dear Done With Dark Circles, Makeup is for everyone – gendered or not – and there's certainly a suite of products you can try to create a natural, radiant finish that helps you look more awake, not overdone. But if you're searching for inspiration from someone who always looks immaculate, look no further than Grayson Coutts' Instagram feed. As one of the country's top male makeup artists, Grayson isn't afraid to share the product he uses personally on social media, adding he's excited for men's makeup to become more prominent in the future. 'There's nothing more attractive than someone confident enough to take pride in their appearance, and that includes their grooming. There's no difference between using a skin tint and running a product through your hair or spraying a fragrance. It's all grooming,' he says. 'Once we move beyond 'this is only for men' or 'this is only for women', we allow people the freedom to explore and enjoy what feels right for them. Even small adjustments to your appearance can make a big difference in how you feel. That's a future I'm very excited to be part of.' Below, Grayson shares his tips on how to create a natural-looking beat for first-time makeup users. ASHLEIGH COMETTI: What is your personal makeup philosophy? GRAYSON COUTTS: Makeup should never feel like a chore or something that's obligatory; it's there for anyone and everyone to enjoy, if they'd like to, and to whatever degree they feel drawn to. My own makeup philosophy is really simple: I want to look more awake, add a little definition to my features, and improve the overall appearance of my skin. I'm more than happy to share any products I like with my followers, as I know how difficult it can be to find what you need in the overwhelmingly vast world of makeup today. AC: What advice would you share with a male client who's looking to start with a very natural, undetectable makeup look? GC: The most important place to start is with great skincare. The better the condition of your skin, the better makeup will look on top. Make sure your skin is properly cleansed and hydrated for your skin type, and exfoliate gently once or twice a week. For makeup, the easiest product to begin with is a skin tint, which is like a tinted moisturiser. It's so sheer it's virtually traceless. Just warm a little in your hands and press it into the exposed skin of your face and neck. Next, apply a concealer under the eyes and over any blemishes using your ring finger to gently tap in a very small amount. Finally, brush your brows neatly into place. You can trim any longer hairs if needed, or use a clear brow gel for extra hold. GC: I think men are definitely becoming more comfortable with looking after their appearance and taking an interest in personal grooming. The increase in men using social media, and therefore, even somewhat inadvertently engaging in skincare and makeup education, and the de-gendering of beauty have all played a role in opening up makeup to a wider audience. Most men know to a degree what certain makeup products are and generally what they do and many are happy to join in the fun. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ɢ ʀ ᴀ ʏ s ᴏ ɴ ᴄ ᴏ ᴜ ᴛ ᴛ s (@graysoncoutts) AC: How does makeup application differ for men – for example, applying makeup around stubble or facial hair? GC: Men's skin is typically thicker, more textured, and tends to be oilier than women's skin, which can mean enlarged pores or more visible texture. Around facial hair, be especially careful not to apply foundation or concealer directly into the stubble – it'll catch and look obvious. Instead, gently blend your base products toward the edges of the facial hair so they fade out naturally before meeting the hairline. Where open enlarged pores are a particular problem, a targeted skin primer applied under any makeup will help to reduce their appearance. You can also find anti-shine products that have no tint or colour to them, but they absorb oil and so help to keep any unwanted shine at bay throughout the day. AC: What's your top tip for disguising dark circles or blemishes without looking heavy, cakey, or obvious? GC: There are really only three main things that can go wrong: bad colour match, too much product, or not enough hydration. Start by hydrating the under-eye area with a good eye cream. Then lightly stipple on a small amount of concealer using your fingertip or a makeup sponge, focusing on the discoloured area (primarily the inner half of the under-eye). It doesn't need to fully erase the darkness, just soften and lift the depth in tone a little. For the colour, choose a shade no more than one tone lighter than your skin, ideally with a warm, peachy undertone to counteract any blue or purple hues. AC: How can male readers find the right shade to suit their skin tone? Do you have any advice for someone who's too embarrassed to get matched at a makeup counter? GC: It can definitely be overwhelming walking into a makeup store when you're not sure what you're looking for. I'd suggest first browsing online at what the store carries and choosing a couple of brands with good reviews. Then go in with a plan and ask the makeup artist if you can take home a few samples to test in the comfort of your own home. When testing, apply a stripe of each colour to your cheek and compare them in natural light (not bathroom lighting). The right shade should disappear into your skin. If it looks orange or grey, the undertone is wrong. If it looks too pale or too dark, it's the wrong depth. Try to find one that pretty much disappears into your skin. Op-Ed: We Have To Keep Sonya Massey's Name Alive

Last summer, on July 6, we learned of a new reason for the police to kill an unarmed Black person: a pot of hot water. Sonya Massey, then 36, called 911 when she suspected an intruder at her home in Springfield, Illinois. According to an Illinois State Police summary of her shooting death, when police arrived, deputies did indeed see a car at Massey's home that looked broken into. After knocking on the door, the two officers claimed they found her 'distraught and not thinking clearly.' But instead of treating her as a person in need of help, she was ultimately treated as a criminal, and after an exchange, subsequently executed. Sangamon County Deputy Sean Grayson, reportedly roughly 10 feet from Massey, motioned to a pot on the stove in her kitchen. At one point, Grayson responds to Massey, 'Getting away from your hot, steaming water.' In response, the summary says she repeats twice, 'I rebuke you in the name of Jesus,' Massey said twice. Grayson greeted that with, 'I swear to God. I will shoot you right in your f—— face.' Source: Source: Wikipedia / Wikipedia / Source: Wikipedia / Wikipedia And so he did, but not before she dropped the pot and crouched below a line of cabinets with her hands in the air after apologizing as he drew his gun and pointed it at her. Though she did get back up and grabbed the pot again in defense, when she threw the water, Grayson's response was to fire his gun three times – one of the bullets went directly into her face. If this does not sound barbaric enough, after the shooting, when the second deputy in the home claimed he planned to retrieve a medical kit, Grayson told him not to. The other deputy did anyway and remained with Massey until medical help arrived. Grayson never bothered to help the distressed woman he was sent there to help, but ended up shooting her in the face. He has since been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, and more recently, a new pre-trial date has been set, and he will stand trial Oct. 20 for the murder of Sonya Massey. Massey's family attended the brief pre-trial hearing before Seventh Circuit Court Presiding Judge Ryan Cadagin last month. Sontae Massey, a cousin of Sonya Massey, told reporters, 'We're going to be at all of the hearings. They could have a hundred hearings between now and Oct. 20. We'll be at each and every one of them.' In February, the family reached a $10 million settlement with officials in Sangamon County, Illinois. As much as they seek justice for her killing, however, a separate interview highlights that beyond her victimhood, Sonya Massey was a mother and a loving person who has left behind a hole in the hearts of family, friends, and the people in her community. Speaking with NewsChannel20 in Springfield, Illinois, ahead of the one-year anniversary of her shooting, Massey's family described her as 'a hard-working mother who ensured her kids were well taken care of.' Indeed, her son, Malachi Hill-Massey, spoke fondly of his late mom in an interview with the Springfield State Journal-Register ahead of his high school graduation. 'She showed me ways of her being caring,' Hill-Massey explained. 'She's a helper, a carer, for everybody. She would help somebody before she would help herself.' He said he finished school early 'for his mom' and Sonya's mother, Donna Massey, said in the same interview, 'We're so happy that he's made his mama proud,' she said. 'We can feel her shining down on us. I know she's happy. And he has a plan: he will attend trade school for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, citing his mom as his motivation to succeed. Still, it was hard to read him say, 'I think about it all the time,' about her killing. 'I'm young. I need my mom still.' And as a grieving son, I related to him saying he is following the trial 'as much as I can,' but 'I'm still grieving. It's a wearing process. I've lost people before, but when it's someone you're with literally every single day, someone I talked to every single day, it's different.' Source: Sangamon County Jail / Sangamon County Jail As for her shooter, Sean Grayson, charged with Sonya Massey's murder: 'You can't say it's not senseless. You were supposed to be protecting her. How could you turn your gun on her? Why would you even think about lethal force before a taser? He could have tased my mom. He could have pepper-sprayed her, anything before shooting her.' As frustrating as her loss remains, I take heed to her cousin Sontae Massey's caution that while the world remembers Sonya as 'the tiny woman speaking to the police in the final moments of her life, she's so much more than that.' 'I miss her everyday,' Sontae shared. 'I miss the Sonya that, I would go over to mom's house, and we would crack jokes, and she would make fun of me and she would share a laugh with me. I miss that Sonya.' The family said that they feel the hype of Sonya's name has started to die down, thus doing interviews like that one to do everything in their power to keep her name alive. That is admirable, especially given the circumstances, but let us do our part to help keep her name alive. Not only as a victim of police brutality, but as a loving mother, daughter, cousin, and friend who brightened the lives of the people around her, and like far too many Black people in this country, continues to have their light unjustly and untimely dimmed. Todd Chrisley Breaks Years-Long Instagram Hiatus With Proud Dad Post

Todd Chrisley is social media active again, marking his return with double celebrations! The "Chrisley Knows Best" alum made a splashy comeback on Instagram in honor of his youngest son, Grayson, who achieved an academic milestone. The last time the proud dad updated the page was in December 2022, before his incarceration. Todd Chrisley regained his freedom on May 27 after he and his wife, Julie Chrisley, received full pardons from President Donald Trump. The couple reported to prison in 2023 following their guilty verdict on bank fraud and tax evasion charges. Todd finally marked his return home, weeks after regaining his freedom, by celebrating his son's academic achievement. He updated his Instagram page on Thursday, June 12, with a newsletter that revealed Grayson made the University of Alabama Dean's List for Spring Semester 2025. The doting dad could not contain his joy in the post's caption, boasting about his son's excellence. "God is good all the time, @graysonchrisley. I love you to the moon and back, and we couldn't be more proud," Todd began before diving into Grayson's stellar qualities. "You have shown great character and fortitude and stood with your lord and savior amidst the fire and came out the other side never smelling of smoke," he continued, seemingly referencing his time in prison. Todd also hailed Grayson as "proof of God's word," imploring him always to stand tall and true. Todd's post generated over 50k likes and hundreds of comments from fans, who celebrated his newfound freedom and Grayson's achievement. As many flooded him with their love and support, the Chrisley family patriarch responded by liking some comments. One of the comments he gave the red heart read: "YES, God always has the last say. The government and society tried to destroy this family, BUT their faith led them to prove all yall wrong. I love this & I love them." Another commenter echoed similar sentiments that received Todd's acknowledgment. The IG user applauded Grayson for his amazing features while applauding the efforts of Todd and Julie's oldest daughter, Savannah, for keeping her younger siblings in check. "Savannah really did a fantastic job holding everything down and on track so that everyone, including her, can flourish and be free," the fan wrote. As stated, Todd and Julie regained their freedom after Trump handed them full pardons on May 27. The president announced that he had forgiven the couple over a phone call with their children, Savannah and Grayson. PEOPLE reported that Grayson marked his parents' release from prison on his Instagram Stories, resharing a post detailing Trump's pardons. He expressed his happiness underneath the update, writing, "PRAISE GOD!!!! Thank you Mr. President for bringing my family back." Grayson's love for the politician continued in a separate post where he declared, "Trump knows best." His excitement was understandable, given how much the POTUS sympathized with his family during their phone call. Trump described Todd and Julie's incarceration as a "terrible thing" and hoped they would make good use of their second chance. Three years before making the Dean's list, Grayson nearly suffered severe injuries after a ghastly car crash. The Blast covered the story, reporting that the accident occurred in November 2022 on Saturday around 5:30 pm on I-65 in Nashville. Grayson was driving his Ford F-150 when he rear-ended a Dodge pickup truck. It was unclear how the accident happened, but police reports noted the other car had been in heavy standstill traffic when the media personality collided with it. First responders at the scene attempted to gather information from Grayson; however, he was unable to explain the situation. He was suspected to have a head injury, leading to his leaving the scene in the back of an ambulance. Meanwhile, the Dodge pickup truck suffered injuries but declined treatment. The Chrisleys were not the only ones ecstatic about Trump's pardons, as one of their attorneys saw an influx of new clients. The Blast shared that Jay Surgent had been bombarded with calls and emails from families with people behind bars. These hopeful clients hoped to get a presidential pardon for their loved ones like the Chrisleys and turned to Surgent for help. He addressed his overnight fame in a recent interview, claiming he got "three to five hundred emails a day." Additionally, the calls were so overwhelming that Surgent noted he might get a new cell phone. Despite the significant amount of communication from people desperate for his services, the attorney stressed that he was grateful for the growth of his business. Here's to hoping the Chrisleys have nothing but good times ahead of them.
